We went with an 11-year-old, and everyone had so much fun. From the communication to the pickup, instructions, and the tour itself—everything was amazingly organized. The heated helmets make such a difference! The free ride time on the lake was awesome. Strongly recommend!

Got stuck in snow, but had so much fun!!!! LOLs all around

Safety is his #1 priority. Guide is a bit of a science/physics nerd and super sarcastic. These qualities showcase his commitment to excellence in providing his customers with the safest and funnest experience ever. He is so patient and tries to maximize our experience in all ways. For example, I had to be rescued (stuck in powdered snow) right after our he rescued somebody else stuck in the snow for 30 minutes, but he did so with a smile 😊 i really appreciated it and felt good about tipping.

What a excellent experience!

We were picked up on time and taking to our starting point. Leon welcomed us with an 15 minutes of orientation to let us know today’s route, how the snowmobile operates, safety concerns and answered all our questions! The heated helmet and handle bar helped quite a bit while riding in the -39 C weather. We were riding on a frozen lake and up to over 60KM/H. What an awesome and amazing experience! Leon even took us to a frozen waterfall which none of us (6 of us) ever saw before. If you are here In Yellowknife for the aurora light, you must book a ride on snowmobile with Leon. You will forever remember and treasure this wonderful ride!

Awesome time

Jane_K, Feb 2026
Gabriel gave our family and unforgettable experience! From the moment we met him, his energy was absolutely contagious. You can tell he genuinely loves what he does — and that excitement made the entire snowmobile tour feel extra special. He was incredibly patient, thorough with safety instructions, and made sure everyone felt confident before we hit the trails. Once we got going, his enthusiasm never dropped. He pointed out beautiful scenery, checked in on us often, and kept the vibe fun and upbeat the entire time. It felt less like a standard tour and more like an adventure with a friend who was genuinely excited to share the experience. What really stood out was how attentive he was to our family as a group. He made sure we were comfortable, took amazing photos for us, and created such a positive, welcoming atmosphere. His passion for the outdoors and for giving people a memorable experience truly shines through. If you’re considering a snowmobile tour, ask for Gabriel — you won’t regret it. He turned a fun activity into an unforgettable experience for our whole family. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This tour was absolutely amazing! Even though it was super windy today, it only added to the magic—the lake passage looked like we were driving on clouds. Such a unique and unforgettable experience. Highly recommend!

Thank you for sharing your experiences. It was extremely windy today, and the good thing is that the temperature is not overly cold. Everything turned out great.

A must do tour in Yellowknife!

Joyce_H, Jan 2026
As someone with no prior snowmobiling experience, I found this tour to be exceptionally well suited for beginners. Leon began the experience with a thorough 20-minute introduction, clearly explaining how to operate the snowmobile and what to expect throughout the tour. Once we were on the trails, he stopped frequently to ensure everyone was comfortable and safe, and to check if anyone needed assistance. Because of these regular check-ins, help was always available immediately if any issues arose. I truly enjoyed the tour and would highly recommend it to anyone new to snowmobiling—it is much easier than it looks!

Response from Host, Jan 2026

Thank you for sharing your experiences. Snowmobiling is safe, fun and easy to enjoy for nearly everyone. Destination NWT's snowmobile tour is designed for beginner and intermediate guests.

Exciting experience for fun. We also drove and hike a bit to see the ice cave. The leader explained every detail to make sure everybody safe. No need worry if I was first time on snow mobile. With a bit of exercise I can drive more and more smoothly under his instruction. Also they have free gears to lend if anyone doesn’t wear properly. The tour was extended one, comparing with the short one, I had so much fun. Worth to taking it.

Sheila_D, Mar 2025
Helmets were very clean, snowmobiles were in great condition. Leon provided a great safety briefing and description of what we could expect during the excursion and it was exactly as he said. We had a lot of fun and even had time for photos and video of some free time riding around on the lake. EXCELLENT experience and I would definitely recommend this!

Great 1st time snowmobile experience

Derek_L, Feb 2025
We booked the snowmobile tour via Viator and were referred to DNWT whose operator's professionalism, patience and care left us with deep impression as first timers of snowmobile activity, especially my wife and daughter had no experience in driving at all. We were put into small teams with the operator bringing his daughter with him as a co-worker who had offered big helping hand to his Dad despite her young age. Overall, it was a great experience and we would book DNWT tours again in our visit to Yellowknife in future.

It's a shame that the bike riding time is a little short. But the feeling of riding on the snow is really good.

Excellent beginner experience

Heather_S, Feb 2025
This is a great ride for beginners. Enough variety to keep things interesting, but not so challenging as to be scary. Leon did a great job of explaining how the machines work, and how to avoid accidents. The heated helmet worked perfectly. Pro tip: wear contacts instead of glasses if you have them. It was great to go running across the lake alongside dog sleds and simply to be able to see the landscape in a different way.

Be polite when speaking to the operator

Heeeun_K, Feb 2025
I made a reservation and made plans to visit Yellowknife 6 months in advance. Because the weather was so snowy, I made reservations for hotels and flights in advance, but decided to make reservations for activities once I arrived. After visiting Aurora Village, I made a reservation to go snowmobiling in the afternoon, but I received an email in the evening saying that it was impossible to proceed because it was just my child and I on that date and time. Because I came at dawn to see the Aurora, an early time was impossible, and I wanted an afternoon time, so I asked for a refund or to proceed at the original time. Then they contacted me again and said that there was a misunderstanding and that it was possible to proceed in the afternoon and that they would pick me up at the hotel. So I didn't book any other activities. The day I was supposed to go snowmobiling, I received an email at 11:30 in the morning saying that there was a problem with the snowmobile I was trying to ride and that I could not proceed, so I would proceed at 12 o'clock or I would receive a refund. I had the opportunity twice and my day was ruined by not being able to do this activity. I asked for a refund right away. I didn't ask for anything other than a refund. Then the operator told me that refunds would only be issued after the activity ended and that I should learn how to speak politely. Am I supposed to be polite to the operator without saying sorry for ruining my day? What did I do wrong and ruin my day and still have to apologize? If I cancel 1 day in advance due to my circumstances, a refund is not possible, but if I cancel with 3 hours notice due to their circumstances, they only refund the amount I paid without any penalty. If you want to ruin your planned day, book a snowmobile ride.

Response from Host, Feb 2025

This was one of the rudest guest I have ever dealt with and I have dealt with tens of thousands of guests in my life time. I informed the guest the day before her tour that I do not yet have a confirmed tour for her time slot since there is only her. I offered her to switch to 10am on the same day. She replied with a polite email stating she can't do the 10am tour and ask me to kindly cancel her tour without penalty. I replied with I will try to make 2:30pm work for her, and if I can't I will make a full refund. She replied with please cancel the tour and make full refund. I explained to her. Tripadvisor does not allow me to make refund until the tour is over. She angrily replied why does she need to wait for refund tomorrow, she must get refund NOW!!! I explained again that I can not make a refund, the system won't let me. She sent another angry email demanding refund now!!! I tried to explain to her that there may be a language barrier as she is clearly not understanding what I was saying. I again assured her that she will receive a full refund. All these occurred within a few hours. Finally I moved a few other guests to her time slot so I can accommodate her and sent her an email to update her. On the day of the tour at 10am, a guest damged a snowmobile and it is leaking coolant. I tested it during the 12pm tour with another guide and it was obvious not operational and cant be fixed on the same day. I had to inform her that I will make a full refund to her since I have no snowmobile for her. The other slots were people booked ealier than her and the logical method is to refund the most recent booking. Of course I received another angry email with insults from her. To which I replied she should treat people with respect. After the tour is over when refund option appeared, I made a full refund and got this cheerful review. I only wish she will treat others better than how she treated me.

Beautiful experience

Make sure you can comfortably grip the brake and speed control. Don't feel need to keep up with others. Go at you own pace

Response from Host, Jan 2025

Thank you for sharing the safety tips with others. It is really important that all guests listen to and follow all instructions. You had abnormally large mitts for your hand which you could not operate the snowmobile properly. We have gear for guests if their gear is not up to standard, but you have to request the gear. There is no cost to using our gear. Please let the guide know if there is anything you may need
