Knowledgeable guide. Tina delayed our departure based on the weather forecast and that was a spectacle decision. Friendly guide and driver. Tina took pictures for all guests and shared right after the tour ended!

Thank you for sharing your experiences. Destination NWT understands that guests wishes are to see the Aurora and not to adhere to some rigid tour departure time. Guides will do utmost to contact guests ahead of time so that each tour can maximize the time of avoiding the cloud and seeing the aurora.

Very dependable, comfortable arrangement, making a potentially uncomfortable experience very enjoyable

This tour is very different from the typical aurora chase. Instead of spending most of the night driving between locations, we stayed primarily at the lodge, which made the experience calm and comfortable. We could step outside when the lights appeared and then return indoors to warm up, have hot chocolate, and relax.
The lodge setup works especially well for groups, as people can sit together, chat, and wait for the aurora in a cozy setting rather than standing in the cold. It felt unhurried and well thought out, and is a great option for anyone who prefers a more laid back and social Northern Lights experience.

Thank you for sharing your experiences. Destination NWT wants guests to enjoy Nature in Comfort and our tours are designed with that in mind.
The lodge is a great place for a total aurora experience without the cold. Should the sky above the lodge is cloudy, we will do a chasing tour and still return to the lodge to warm up.

Great tour - saw the northern lights on our first night in Yellowknife! It was cold so it was nice to have a lodge to warm up in with hot chocolate and snacks. We were in a small group and Mo shared lots of great information and took great photos to share with us (at no cost). Thank you Mo for the experience!

The house was really cold. The room temperature must be below freezing point because the snow we brought in from outside by shoes didn’t melt. It appears that the tour operators were unprepared and didn’t pre-heat the place and the heating system didn’t work well.

I apologize for you not having a great experience. This must have been on the day that our generator failed and we had to install a backup generator in the winter. Occasionally things like equipment failure does occur and we do our best to make sure everything is back to normal as soon as possible.

Great experience viewing the Aurora Borealis. Our guide Peter was excellent in showing us how to view and to photo graph the night sky Borealis. It was an amazing night. Also, having the lodge with the fireplace was a wonderful shelter as well as the outdoor tepee with the burning fire. We also traveled to two lakes with one showing the beginning of the Aurora Borealis and the last a Moondog. Quite an exciting night!

Mo is so professional for making good images for the aurora. He shared lots of photos for that night. Even if you don’t have good equipments for taking aurora photos, don’t worry. He’ll make photos and videos to share to make sure catch the moment.

Cloudy all night, obviously could not be helped. The Aurora "lodge" was nothing like the photo in the promotion
Response from Host, Mar 2025
I am sorry to hear you did not have a great experience! All photos are accurate and not photo shopped in anyway. Please contact us about any inaccuracies.

Guide was great, bus comfortable. My main complaint was that the lodge was smelly , did not have enough chairs and the food served was very ordinary, just cheap biscuits and instant coffee/chocolate. The view from the lodge was also less than ideal.
Response from Host, Mar 2025
Thank you for sharing your experiences. The smell is from the sewage tank, a pump out was missed due to uncontrolled reasons and another pump out is requested and has been scheduled in the next few days.

Pros: pick up on time at the hotel. Guide really wanted to do the best for guests. Lodge did have have the accommodations mentioned on the description of the tour. Location was good.
Cons: lodge a lot smaller than expected or showed on photos. No alcohol to purchase as advertised. The place was cold. The lodge was really dirty, dust balls everywhere. Toothbrush in the bathroom. It felt like you went uninvited and unexpectedly to someone’s house. It looked and felt like a college dorm or fraternity house.
This place has the potential to be very good but more attention has to be paid to what they offer and how they present the house.
We didn’t get to see the auroras because of extreme cloudiness but that is not affecting my rating since no one can control or predict the weather.
Response from Host, Jan 2025
I am sorry to hear that you did not have a great experience, and thank you for the constructive review.
The lodge is 2800 sq feet divided over 3 floors. The main and 2nd floor both have seating, while the walkout basement is for kid's entertainment with arcades, foosball table and basketball shooter.
There is a guide living onsite to do daily cleaning, and I will verify the conditions myself to ensure a professional and inviting space. I will request the guide to remove his personal belonging from the public space.
The lodge is normally cozy and warm, however I found out we run out of fuel that day, which would explain the cold. Fuel is normally delivered regularly by fuel companies in town. However the fuel company explained to us that they may have missed a delivery during the holiday season due to staff shortage. We had fuel delivered on the very next morning at 8am.
We will ensure the lodge is kept in a warm and inviting condition.
Thanks again for visiting our Aurora Lodge and for your time to provide us with a constructive review.

Fantastic experience of northern lights with clear sky. We could stay in warm cabin before and after watching the northern lights.
Response from Host, Jan 2025
Thank you for sharing your experiences! The best thing about the aurora lodge is that its got all the conveniences to enjoy viewing the Northern Lights in comfort.
Ahmad_H, Dec 2024
Just don't understand why someone wants to go to this place? It's just a place to stay at. Why someone spending so much funds to go to that area want to pay so much money to go and stay at this place?!
Response from Host, Dec 2024
I am sorry you did not have a great experience. The product is exactly what is advertised, a warm and pleasant place to hang out while waiting for the aurora. The lodge has large viewing decks and land to see the northern lights, the inside is spacious, warm, has proper washrooms, hot beverages.
Please let us know if there is anything we can improve upon.
Pamela_H, Dec 2024
The tour guide was so nice and friendly. Though we can’t see the aurora light on that day, ‘Mo’ still tried to take good pictures of us! The lodge was cozy and beautiful!

We stayed in a very nice lodge and were able to watch the aurora outdoors and come back inside to warm up until the next sighting. Leon is an excellent tour guide and very knowledgeable about the science behind the aurora. Moe took great aurora photos. We
appreciate their work to make the tour a very enjoyable experience! We will do it again next year!

It was cloudy we could not see Auroras, the very nice place and as described but the cloudy sky

Response from Host, Jan 2026
There really isnt much we can do about clouds. We look at cloud reports and will go to places with less cloud if it is within 150km of the City. However, there are some nights that the weather report isnt accurate.
Hopefully you will have better luck catching the aurora on another night.
