We had a fantastic experience on this tour! Our guide, Wilson, was funny, knowledgeable, and made the whole night enjoyable. He also took amazing photos of us with the aurora borealis, which we really appreciated. The vehicle was comfortable and provided a warm place to relax whenever we needed a break from the cold. Highly recommend!

Great tour guide

Vashti_M, Mar 2026
While it was a very cloudy night and we were not fortunate enough to see the northern lights, our tour guide (Wilson) and driver made every effort to keep looking. We felt very safe and even enjoyed some hot chocolate and cookies on the bus.

Large bus tour to Northern lights

Elizabeth_G, Mar 2026
This is a large bus of people and if you sit in the back, you can’t hear. They have some set places they normally do. We did this tour on two different nights. On the second night, our guide, Breesa, looked with the driver where there might be better visibility and took us further out to a spot, not normally gone to, and we were incredibly rewarded with wonderful lights. I talked to other people whose guides did not do that and they saw nothing that night. We got back later than anticipated, and not one person complained because it was magnificent.

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Thank you so much for your honest review also the largeer bus however still smallest number of guests 19 Guests MAX and this is the smallest number of guests we carry most of the times unlike school buses or shuttle buses range between 24 guests to 45 guests. Regards

We had a great time, and saw Northern Lights and lots of stars. Our tour guide Wilson was really nice and my parents and I enjoyed our time!

Good experience

HYUNHAENG_J, Mar 2026
Our guide, Wilson, was very cheerful, friendly and corperative. At the first moment that the aurora wasn't strong enough, he tried to find best angles for phototaking with a bit of the lights. As he told it would be getting stronger, the sky started to shine with the veil of aurora. He kept taking care of my little to have a nice photo of my family, as well as other accompanied groups. I reccomend.

Amazing experience! The night started out cloudy and that was the forecast, so when we got to our first destination our guide had us stay for a very long time waiting for the aurora. We moved to the next location and finally got to see an amazing aurora! We even stayed an extra half hour to accommodate the aurora starting off late. Incredible experience!

This aurora tour was amazing! The guide drove us around to different spots throughout the night to chase the lights, which was super cool. Fair warning though, no matter how bundled up you are, the chill will get to you eventually. Totally worth it. Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable, and they brought professional camera gear and took good photos for us. The whole experience was warm and welcoming despite the freezing temps. Recommend this to anyone visiting!

Pursuit for the Northern Lights

VirginiaD_J, Mar 2026
This is a unique experience, trying to find the Northern Lights in three frozen lakes & a river. However, it didn't show up last night to our frustrations. Out tour leader Wilson is very nice & helpful. We're not in the best of luck.

Best Photographer & Guide

KANGSAN_L, Feb 2026
Our guide Lisa was the best photographer ever, and she was so nice throughout the tour. 100% satisfied, and of course we were lucky enough to see Aurora dancing moment. 강력 추천 합니다!!

Dress warm in the winter! We made 4 different stops chasing the Aurora Borealis. Guide was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Coffee, hot chocolate, and cookies were provided.

Cold evening, brilliant lights

Robin_P, Jan 2026
We had a successful night chasing lights. The lights were out early. Wilson was very pleasant. Its important to put on all your warm layers. Because we were in and out of the van, I thought I had enough on. But the night is cold and very quickly it felt very cold (was -39 or 40 with windchill). Cycling in and out of the van is a factor too. Lights typically come out between 11 and 2.. ours were out early (9:30) and so by 1am - the evening felt long and a bit tedious.

Catching the lights with a lot of fun and freebies.

Pavel_N, Jan 2026
This tour was amazing. We rented an AirBnB in Yellowknife and were picked up right from the property. The tour guide Willson was a lot of fun to interact with and listen to. He is well experienced and knowledgable about the lights. He took a ton of pictures of every party in the group with the northern lights in the backgrounds and sent those to us free of charge via email. Great experience and excellent value for what you get. Highly recommended!!!

Highly Recommended Northern Lights Tour

Zaher_M, Jan 2026
We had a fantastic experience on this Northern Lights tour. The guide took us to multiple locations to maximize our chances of seeing the aurora, and the experience was both well organized and enjoyable. The storytelling and explanations added a great touch and made the night even more memorable. Pickup was on time, there was no rush at any of the stops, and we were given plenty of time to enjoy the views. The professional photos were a wonderful bonus, and the hot chocolate and cookies were much appreciated on such a cold night. Overall, an unforgettable experience that we would absolutely recommend.

Great tour and able to see northern light

Florence_T, Dec 2025
Wilson was great! He took us three places to see northern light. The last stop was awesome. We have great time.

Pui_Y, Dec 2025
Wilson’s story telling skills is good and he makes the description interesting. His camera plus his shooting skills help us to take good photos.

Excellent!

Savio_F, Dec 2025
An amazing experience! Wilson our guide was very professional, cuatomer centric with regards to safety. We were picked up from the hotel on time. After a few more pssengers from other hotels we werw on our way to 3 places. The northern lights were faint initially however became brighter later on. Enough time was given at all placea. Wilson took pictures of all passengera which will be shared shortly. We were given hot chocolate, maple cookies and a ferero rocher. Best experisnce was walking on a frozen lake. And one of the best captures on our last stop. He made certain we got the best views of the aroras as they got brighter. Highly recommend. Temps were -30. Please wear appropriate clothing. Feet get cold specially on the frozen lake and when temps dip after midnight. We could enter the bus to keep warm anytimenas it was heated. He was very considerate of our 8 year old who couldnt bear the cold. And offered to get a family pic near the bus. Very considerate as he even thoughy of sibling pics. We have another trip with them tomorrow. Cant wait for another exciting night. Totally recommend them for your tour.

We had a fantastic experience on this tour. Our guide was excellent and took us to three different locations for aurora viewing. The first two spots offered truly spectacular views. We were given plenty of time at each location, and the added touches of hot beverages and cookies made the experience even more enjoyable. Most importantly, the guide captured some absolutely stunning aurora photos and emailed them to us afterward at no extra cost. This thoughtful service really set the tour apart. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone hoping to see the Northern Lights.

Excellent Experience!

Jonathan_W, Dec 2025
The guide is so helpful. Take a lot of pictures with their professional camera. The guide will take us to few place which can see the aurora. Joined two days of the tour, luckily two days can see the aurora! Thank you so much.

Rajneesh_G, Dec 2025
It was great to join the tour. I was picked from my hotel at the designated time. Within half an hour we were in Aurora wonderland. There was no rush everyone took their time and our guide took multiple photos of everyone. It was a cold night and we were served hot chocolate and cookies. Overall a great experience!!

Cold night, low lights

Rob_W, Dec 2025
Tour was good. Temperature was a balmy -31c (feels like -40c). So it was hard to stay outside the bus for more than a few minutes at a time. Lights weren't strong this evening so only saw color through our phone camera. Guide tried really hard to find good spots. Guide also had a great attitude and was very dedicated to everyone having a good experience.

Well organized tour

Izzy, Nov 2025
Very well organized. Good communication. Reasonable price. Recommended. Too bad we didn't see the lights, I guess we don't control mother nature.

Wilson is amazing guide!...

Wilson is amazing guide! I can’t wait to return again some time in the future. Pack enough clothes!!!

Negative experience with bad tour guide

Elaine_W, Oct 2025
We had a poor experience that we wouldn’t wish on anyone else. The guide, Wilson, was willfully misleading about the existence of the Aurora, despite it not being there that night. He exclaimed to everyone that there was an Aurora right above our heads, and when we said that we couldn’t see it, he dismissively replied, “It’s there, and if you can’t see it, I guess everyone’s eyes are different.” What a thing to say. There simply wasn’t an Aurora on that night. And it was such a rude shock to be spoken to with such crassness and condescension. We went for another tour the following night that was miles better than the one we had with this company. They had a cabin for us to warm up, they had actual food for us, tripods to borrow to take the aurora on our own phones, and most importantly, we actually saw a beautiful and mesmerizing Aurora on the following night. I would NOT recommend this company to my worst enemy.

Response from Host, Oct 2025

Dear Elaine Thank you for your honest review. If there was no beautiful aurora on this particular night compared to your other night, then we will not blame the tour guide for not making the aurora beautiful for you. Aurora may be strong may be weak may be green may be pink its all upto the nature not upto wilson. We would be shocked if the tour guide will be able to change the colors of aurora or remove the clouds for you however, there is always a negative review when aurora is not strong or cloudy night and we wish you may check with other companies to book your tour who could also remove the clouds which we were not able to do for you. You may take an input for how was the aurora from your other tour operator on the same night you went out with us, as every one sees the same aurora. It is happening 200 Kms above us and can be seen in a radius of 350 Kms. Also on the night youve seen the beautiful Aurora we saw the same thing. Its Nature not a laser show. Thank you so much for your review.

Yes, great trip and guide!

Sanghamitra_R, Oct 2025
Absolutely recommend it!! It was a cloudy night. Wilson, our guide, was amazing and positive and his constant enthusiam kept us going even when we didn't see anything. His judgement was excellent and he took decisions quickly about how much time to spend at each location. He gave us background about the Dene people, the history of mining. On the shores of Lake Prosperous, he and Rupinder served us hot chocolate and cookies. After we were done, Wilson went out to check and there were 2 brightening bands right above our heads. Then at the last stop we saw parts of the aurora where the cloud cover had slipped, glimpes of bright green. Thanks, W-i-l-s-o-n, you rock!

Worth the trip

Mary_B, Oct 2025
This tour delivered a pretty good Aurora view, but visibility was short. The mini bus was clean but you won’t get a lot of comfort. It was cold and the Aurora came and went so we got on and off to keep warm. The guide and driver worked as a team which was nice to see. There was no toilet and it was dark outside with water and ice around. I suggest taking a small flashlight so you don’t run the battery down on your phone. You will want to take a lot of pictures because small movements will result in a blurred photo. Overall, this trip met my expectations.

Overall was great but photographs was not so great

Mike_S, Oct 2025
Pickup time was exact. And we did manage to see the aurora. However the photographs was not that great, we could see a lot of aurora light with our naked eye and smart phone capture it, but the professional photos turned out not that great. Duration was shorter than 4 hours and ended up coming back to hotel slightly sooner then expected. Need better photograph training

Response from Host, Oct 2025

Dear Mike, Thank you so much for your review. Yes, the pictures do look different in every phone and camera, as it depends on the brand of the lens , which makes the same northern lights more or less vibrant and also the same picture looks different from every phone and professional camera and this also depends on the settings being used. In most of the smartphones, the AI software makes it easy to click the pictures and iPhones dont even need a tripod and the smartphones are competing with the professional cameras nowadays however, we have spoken with our guide and refreshed on the different settings to be used for the Northern Lights Photography. We thank you once again for taking out time to give us your feedback.

Amazing sighting of Aurora but…..

chaolittle2, Oct 2025
The tour was poorly run but saved by spectacular aurora show. We waited at the parking lot of our first stop for about 45 minutes too long with no Aurora activity. The guide did a poor job communicating to passengers on board. After seeing several tour vans came and gone, I asked our guide when we will move to the next location. She then contacted her boss and got his okay right away to head to the next stop. The boss is also the photographer for multiple tour vans. We saw spectacular Aurora show at our second and final spot. Before heading back, the boss shared (via air drop) all the photos he took the night with each group. He instructed each group to simply delete what we don’t want or not belong to us. Not sure about such practice due to privacy concerns as we didn’t consent of sharing our photos with strangers.

Response from Host, Oct 2025

Dear Guest None of the Managers (boses) are the tour guides, there are only tour guides and the drivers only. "It is a very good concern and no one should share your pictures with others, it is your privacy. So please put the review on the correct tour company so that they do not do this in the future" There are only tour guides who do the tours. We do not keep waiting at the same spot for 45 minutes and we have never ever shared the pictures through the air drop, our cameras dont have bluetooth or airdrop. We only had one small tour bus this night we did not have multiple tour vans either. Could you check if it is the same company you booked with ? The Aurora by Bus Tour and Northern lights tours is a common tour name not a company name. We do not even recognise your booking this night. We have never shared pictures through AirDrop, and people only get their pictures through a secure email link. Even our tour guides dont have access to anyone's pictures. Your booking clearly looks like booked with a different company.
