Overview

With its fascinating history and UNESCO-listed Old Town, Warsaw makes a great addition to any tour itinerary, but the sprawling Polish capital can be intimidating to first-time visitors. • Learn about Poland’s WWII and communist era history with a visit to the Jewish Ghetto

Itinerary

Meet your guide in Castle Square to begin your walking tour and set out to explore Warsaw’s UNESCO-listed Old Town. Start by admiring Sigismund’s Column, the 72-foot (22-meter) tall monument at the heart of the square, then follow your guide to landmarks like the Cathedral of St. John and the Warsaw Barbicane. Stroll around the lively Market Square, marvel at the striking red façade of the Royal Castle, and pose for photos by the Mermaid Monument.

Then, hear more about Warsaw’s fascinating history as you visit Krasińskich Square, the site of the Warsaw Uprising; Pilsudski Square, home to the Tomb of Unknown Soldiers; and Krakowskie Przedmieście Street, where the Presidential Palace and the University of Warsaw are located.

After three hours with your guide, either end your tour in the Old Town or continue your explorations on a 5- or 7-hour tour (depending on option selected).

5-hour tour

After a short bus or tram ride (transport costs not included), arrive in Grzybowski Square, at the heart of the former Jewish Ghetto. As you follow your guide around the historic district, hear more about Poland’s rich Jewish heritage, discover how it was the largest Jewish Ghetto in Europe during the Nazi era, and learn more about the atrocities of WWII. Finish your 5-hour tour looking out over the city from the viewing terrace of the Warsaw Palace of Culture and Science, Poland’s tallest building.

7-hour tour

Spend your final two hours exploring the magnificent Lazienki Royal Park. Wander around the exquisite royal gardens, see Frederic Chopin’s monument and the Palace on the Isle, then admire historic buildings like the Old Orangery and Amphitheatre.

7-hour Tour

The 7-hour tour felt stretched to fill the time- the same info and sights could have easily been a 5-hour tour experience. While the tour was fine, it felt like the route was unplanned and we were surprised to be asked to pay additional money for a underground/subway ticket during the walking tour.

Fantastic First Morning

TMPUTAH, Jul 2018
Kasia was a great guide and the 5 hour tour interwove the city highlights with the Ghetto because the city and the ghetto (before and during the war) were geographically overlaid on top of one another. That is, one is not in a different part of town. It made more sense to do them both depending where we were in the tour. I would totally recommend this tour for solos and groups who are new to the city. Everything means more when you know the background and the tour provided an excellent foundation for contextualizing the city, museums and memorials. The next day I went around the city by myself, and sure enough we had gotten all the main sights leaving me time for some museums and memorials. The guide also helped me buy the all-you-can-eat public transportation pass for the weekend, which made running around in the afternoon and the next day much easier. The 48 hour weekend pass was 24 zloty or a little over $6. Great value!

Fantastic tour to learn the history of Warsaw. As it was just us and the tour guide we were able to wander at our own place. The Old Town was wonderful and we were given so many insights into how Warsaw was rebuilt after WWII. The tour was a great way learn our way around town so that we could explore further on our own.

Kate, our tour guide, was extremely knowledgeable and took us to important and interesting places of interest in Warsaw. We were the only two people on the tour and loved every minute walking through Warsaw with Kate. This tour is not to be missed! Outstanding!

This was a fantastic tour! Our guide English version - Margret was fantastic! She was knowledgeable on most every topic, even non-tour related topics. She held our attention for the entire 5 hours and gave us great information about local events, sites to visit, and even restaurants. We tried or visited most all of her suggestions, and she was spot on on all of them! I would highly recommend requesting her specifically for this tour. John Long - Cairo, Egypt
