The Sydney Opera House houses several theaters that host more than 1,500 performances per year and attract millions of visitors. Widely considered one of the world’s premier performing arts venues, the Sydney Opera House is also an architectural masterpiece and UNESCO World Heritage site.
As you stroll at a leisurely pace around the famous opera house complex, your guide shares the controversies that erupted during the construction process, which began in 1958. The venue opened formally in 1973, with Queen Elizabeth II in attendance.
Hear fascinating stories as you explore one of the concert halls, and access parts of the complex that are not regularly open to the public. If you’re lucky, you might even catch a rehearsal in progress or get the chance to walk onstage.

Excellent tour, with an excellent tour guide. The included lunch was good, with a limited menu but quality food at the Opera Bar.

Are not really able to take pictures of the inside. If there are matinees going on then you are limited on what they can show you . But it is interesting.

Our guide was very thorough and knowledgeable. Learned a lot about the Opera House and even got same day tickets for a show!

Excellent tour, guide very knowledgable, head phones made it so easy to hear everything he said. Added bonus as we were able to hear the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in rehearsal.
Although only one hour tour it is well worth it.

It was confusing to make the reservations and then follow all the changes made. In the end, we got was we originally ordered, but your email chain prior to the actual tour changed several times. We had a hard time understanding the changes.

Great tour of the Sydney Opera House! We were able to see three of the six theaters, and Patrick, our guide, was very knowledgeable and able to answer all our questions. We purchased the Tour & Dine package and enjoyed a delicious dinner at the opera bar after the tour.

Hardly anyone goes to Sydney and doesn't, at least, see the Opera House on the Sydney harbor. But, seeing it from afar isn't enough. Please consider taking this tour.
The tour was 90 minutes in length and we were treated with information about the architecture and the construction of that incredible building. Fascinating. Our visit included a discussion inside the main opera house where the details of the way the sound travels through that room was explained.
It's a physically easy tour to take for mobile people (as you'll have maybe 40 stairs to climb during the tour). I wouldn't recommend it for folks that need assistance getting around. To be honest, I did't notice any elevators in the areas that we visited on the tour.
I wouldn't recommend it for any visitors any younger than maybe 16 years old. It's definitely not a tour for the little ones.
Our tour guide was fabulous.
It was well worth our investment in time and cash. Very worthwhile tour!!

An outstanding and highly informative tour of the Sydney Opera House. The guide was incredibly knowledgeable about the history, design, and cultural significance of the building, offering fascinating insights into its complex construction. Visiting all the halls made the experience even more special and immersive. A must-do experience that truly deepened our appreciation of this iconic landmark.

Exceptionally professional experience. The tour guide was so clear and explained everything and answered all questions
Amanda_B, Jan 2026
You don’t really get to see everything. There are multiple theaters in the opera house and I think we saw two - one small and one large. You can’t take pictures inside if people are working or if there is copyright scenery so you should be aware of that. The tour guide was fantastic and had lots of good stories and history.

Wow, what an amazing tour of the Sydney Opera House and Lu ch at the Opera Bar was a plus; our tour guide was informative and the food was delicious!
Colleen_N, Oct 2025
The tour guide was excellent and we could hear everything she said, through the headset/receiver they provided to each of us. Our guide told us funny stories and provided a vast amount of detailed facts/history about this beautiful building! We didn't know there was a purse or bag size "limit", so we had to leave our backpack at a security station (it was free). The tour was so interesting, the hour seemed like it flew by!

Loved the tour. The headset so you can hear your guide was great. I wish all tours did the same! The hour flew by.
Amy_P, Oct 2025
Amazing experience…our guide was knowledgeable and very informative. I thought it was just going to be a quick tour and that was it. We were able to see the inside of both venues and learned a lot about how the Opera House was built.

It is a must do for Sydney visitor , lots of information and historical stories during the construction of the opera, the Arch and design , design of interiors , exterior , it is fantastic one hour tour, it is amazing.

Good tour with Judy very knowledgeable about Opera House, would recommend to go, just wish it wasn’t raining so hard so we could have walked around it.

The opera house tour was very educational. Our tour guide Esteban was knowledgeable and did a good job. Lots of interesting things.

I had a stroke and so can't walk up that many stairs. So, I requested the "accessible" tour. They were glad to accommodate me. It was WONDERFUL! I learned so much about the opera house, its history, the inner workings and each of the venues. I highly recommend that tour!
Judith_B, Mar 2025
Excellent tour! A must see. Our tour guide was very informative. She understood the history and architecture of the opera house.
Vanessa_V, Mar 2025
The tour of the opera house was fantastic - such a treat to see the venue if you dont have time/tickets for a show. Plus the added history was lovely too. We got the lunch with tour combo - lunch was fine, but if you're a foodie I would look elsewhere as these are the restaurants affiliated with the venue. So 5 stars for the tour minus 1 for a just ok lunch.
Laura_M, Mar 2025
What a great tour! Loved being able to see the interior of such an ionic landmark! Recommend everyone do this tour.
Jose_C, Mar 2025
It’s a quick and delightful experience! There is a bag check area for your bags. I believe bags the size of a fanny pack or larger need to be checked in for the tour.
You can take pictures of the main foyers/common areas but NO PICTURES are allowed or the performance halls themselves. Tour guide will emphasize this. Everyone receives headphones to listen to during the tour. It’s brilliant since you’ll be able to hear the tour guide regardless if you’re next to him or all the way in the back of the group.
Great history breakdown with an excellent tour guide. Absolutely worth doing.
Maria_L, Feb 2025
Excellent informative tour of the iconic building. Very knowledgeable
guide . The building is beautiful and the story is fascinating.
Jennifer_H, Feb 2025
Absolutely a must see. Inside the Opera House is very impressive the earphone system makes sure u hear all the guides commentary
Ryan_W, Feb 2025
You have to do this while in Sydney. Great way to learn about the complex history of the design and construction. The interior is almost as beautiful as the exterior!
David_K, Feb 2025
A tour is the only way to see everything and really helped understand the design & controversy in its creation. We saw two operas, but learned so much on the tour and got to see the large concert hall.
Sharon_E, Jan 2025
Our tour guide; Sheila was very knowledgeable and fun. We happened to go on Australia day, which made us feel like VIPs as we were on the balcony inside the opera house watching the reggata, while it was very crowded down below on the habour/quay. Opera house is a must see, didn't realize it had many concert halls, theatre's. Loved the history behind it also
James_B, Jan 2025
Very informative and a quick (a good thing) tour that is well worth the small price. Appreciate it so much more than just walking around outside. Esteban was great!
Seema_S, Jan 2025
Very interesting to see such a unique architectural design. Guide commentary was very helpful & she made it interesting
