excellent! Since the departure time was 12 o'clock, I had plenty of time to prepare. The forest trek to get a close-up view of the Blue Mountains was a bit arduous, but it was worth it.

This was an amazing full day of beautiful sights. Greg was our tour guide and definitely took us on a five-star adventure. We had perfect weather--blue sky and warm, but not hot temperatures. We had wonderful views of the Blue Mountains, Wentworth Falls, and The Three Sisters--plus several other breaks including small town stops for food and souvenir shopping. We took several short hikes at various stops, but the most impressive (and challenging) was a hike to the bottom of the falls where we were able to see a rainbow in the falls! It was optional, but worth the view. A few words of caution...The walk down is made up of about eight different sets of "stairs" totaling over 400 steps--which means that you will also have to climb back up those 400+ steps! It was worth it, but we were pretty tired by the time we reached the top again. After the climb, we were positioned in a spot where we were able to take some lovely sunset pictures before heading back to Sydney at night. This is a long day (10-ish hours), but definitely a great tour covering beautiful scenery.

If you are expecting a flat walk to an overlook, this is not for you. My husband and I loved the hike and views, but many in our tour were not fit, and found it to be more of a challenge. Derek was a wealth of info and the views are incredible!

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Thank you for joining our Blue Mountains Sunset tour! We’re delighted you loved the hike, views, and Derek’s wealth of knowledge. We understand the walk can be more challenging for some, but it’s wonderful to know the scenery and insights made it such a memorable experience, we’d love to welcome you back!

Disappointing

Linda_R, Mar 2026
Kangaroo sightings should be removed from title. While wildlife is never guaranteed, there was no effort to find kangaroos. I wish I would have chosen a tour where reviews said guide knew where to go to see them. Other than that, guide provided little information. On other tours guides were excited to share their knowledge—not this one.

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your expectations regarding kangaroo sightings and information from the guide were not met. While wildlife encounters can never be guaranteed, we appreciate your comments and will review how we communicate what guests can expect, as well as look for ways to ensure guides provide engaging and informative commentary. We value your input and will use it to help improve future tours.

Enjoyable day away from the city

Cameron_F, Feb 2026
This is a long tour, about 9-10 hours. We met at 12pm and returned at 9:30pm. We stopped multiple times to get food and to walk to lookouts. The main hike was about 2 hours but it was mild with some stairs. This hike was the highlight of the trip. The tour guide Smokey was very knowledgeable about the history of the area. The bus has USB ports on the back of the seats to charge your phone. Bring lots of water as the weather is hot and humid in February. It was great to talk with the other passengers because we were from all around the world.

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback! We're glad to hear that you enjoyed the long tour and that the main hike was the highlight of your trip. Smokey's knowledge of the area's history truly adds value to the experience, and we're happy he made your day special. It's great to know the USB ports and the opportunity to connect with fellow passengers from around the world enhanced your journey. We appreciate the tip to bring plenty of water, especially considering the hot and humid weather in February. Thanks again for your thoughtful review - we hope to welcome you back for more adventures in the future!

Not a guide, a driver

Rachael_O, Feb 2026
The views were beautiful! However, our tour guide was more of a driver than a guide. He was 20 minutes late to the main pickup point, he gave no clear explanations of what to expect during the tour or who he was, he was inconsistent with timing (told us to be back to the bus in 40 minutes but then named a different time, for example: it was 2pm and he said "you have 40 minutes at this stop...be back at 230pm."), he provided no amenities (no wifi on the bus, and certainly no water), he could answer zero questions about our surroundings (we asked "what is that," he often responded with "I don't know," which is not a crime, but pretending to care enough to lie about looking it up later would be appreciated- additionally he called a group of Kangaroo a herd instead of a mob, which felt especially egregious), and when group members raised concerns about getting to the sunset spot on time he told us we were "thinking too much," and offered no additional info. If you decide to do this tour bring your own water! He said multiple times there were water refill stations, but we only found one actual refill station, as best we could tell he mostly meant for us to refill with tap water. Tap water there was fine, but we couldn't fit our water bottles under the sink tap and often had to get creative throughout the day to avoid dehydration, especially before and after the hike. Speaking of the hike, our group was filled to the max, literally every seat on the bus was taken (24 people I believe?), so when we were on the hike if you were more than 3 people behind him, you couldn't hear anything he was saying- including instructions. He seemed annoyed at the end of our hike, after our scheduled free time, when he couldn't find everyone in a timely manner. Obviously big groups sometimes have stragglers, but he lost track of about 6-8 people many of which "somehow" got past him and made their own way up the trail to the bus. Another group member volunteered to run up to the bus to check and get a head count while he told the rest of us to start making our own way back up to the bus and to "stay together." He stayed behind, I presume to check for stragglers, and met up with the group later muttering about leaving two group members (the stragglers) at the nearest train station. The rest of the group was waiting at a rest stop near the parking lot, given we had no idea where he left the bus (this wasn't the first time that day he dropped us off somewhere and disappeared with the bus). Maybe its only a personal opinion that tour guides should be available to group members and aware of their locations at all times especially in a national park, but maybe consider having at least 2 guides with a group this big? This guide wasn't able to provide for all of us safely. Finally it was too overcast to actually see the sunset, which was not the guide's fault- but he seemed annoyed when the group came back to the bus early, he had to put his Kindle down and pack up his lawn chair, and told us that it hadn't "set yet," despite being unable to provide an actual sunset time. At this last stop he gave further poor directions, pointing to a trail and telling us there was a waterfall at the end, but neglecting to mention it was a 20 min walk both ways at a roughly (we were never sure of the times) 40 min stop. Given that we didn't want to be the next ones threatened with abandonment we didn't want to risk any additional exploring, especially as the sunset was supposed to happen sometime soon. The actual group was full of lovely people, and it felt like we bonded over this experience- starting from when he was late to pick us all up. I feel very lucky that our group was so kind, and so willing to look out for each other. I'm almost certain someone would have been left behind otherwise. In summation: this tour is fine if you don't mind not having a guide or a schedule. The views and the hike were lovely, but I would hesitate to do this tour alone, and I would recommend bringing your own water, you own snacks, a rain jacket, and probably a watch with a timer to make sure you aren't left behind.

Response from Host, Feb 2026

Thank you for sharing such detailed feedback. We sincerely apologize for the experience you described, as it clearly did not meet the standards we aim to provide. We regret the guide's lateness, lack of clear communication, and the safety concerns you raised regarding group management. Your comments about amenities and the overall organization are very valuable, and we will be addressing these issues with the tour operator to improve their service. We’re glad to hear that despite these challenges, you enjoyed the views and the hike, and that your group bonded through the experience. Your suggestions about having more guides, better communication, and essentials like water and snacks are well taken. Safety and clarity are our top priorities, and we appreciate your insights on how to enhance the experience. Thank you again for your honest feedback. We hope your future adventures bring you much more joy and smoother experiences.

Wonderful views + experience

Trung_L, Feb 2026
I was cautious at first about booking such a long tour, but it turned out to be an experience I'll always remember. The stops offered amazing views of the Blue Mountains and surrounding vista. The driver/guide was great at providing info without constantly talking the whole time. I appreciated this, as some tour guides can be overwhelming like that. He made sure we knew about times to return to the bus and where food/water and rest stops were located. The value of this trip is amazing for the duration and what you can see. Make sure you were sunscreen and have good comfortable shoes equipped. The hikes are well worth the views. Just make sure you have plenty of battery life to take those photos. (There are USB chargers on the bus, so bring a charging cable.)

Response from Host, Feb 2026

Thanks for your detailed feedback! We’re thrilled the Blue Mountains Sunset Tour gave you unforgettable views and a balanced, informative guide. Great tips on sunscreen, comfy shoes, and bringing a charging cable for those photo moments. The hikes and scenery truly make this trip amazing value!

Great Guide, bad weather

Taylor_P, Jan 2026
The tour guide was a 5 star, the weather was a 1 star. Although you cannot control the weather, the travel company can control if they give the people on the tour the option to cancel if the fog will be heavy and you will not see the Blue Mountains at all. With that said, I rated this a three because the tour guide was amazing and we did do a hike to a waterfall in replacement of seeing the actual views of the Blue Mountains. I just wish they would have said, due to visibility we want to give you the option to change your day or cancel.

Response from Host, Jan 2026

Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback. We're delighted to hear that you thought our tour guide was amazing and that you enjoyed the waterfall hike as a replacement. We completely understand your frustration with the weather and how it impacted your experience. Your suggestion about offering the option to change or cancel due to weather conditions is very valuable, and we’ll pass it along to improve communication in the future. We appreciate your honesty and hope to provide an even better experience next time.

Bring plenty of water and snacks, you’ll need it for all the adventures! Smokey was an absolutely fantastic tour guide with over 30 years of experience. His knowledge of indigenous people, plants, animals, and Australian history are top notch. You will max out your learning and adventure skills on many roads less traveled by other tour groups. Thanks, Smokey!!

Response from Host, Dec 2025

Your appreciation means a lot. We’re delighted Smokey’s insights and energy created such a memorable journey.

The last thing I want...

Bruno_L, Nov 2025
The last thing I want when visiting a peaceful place is a guide who won't stop talking. That was one of the reasons why this excursion with Derrick was so great. He shared his knowledge at just the right moments, allowing us to enjoy the spirit of the mountain without unnecessary interruptions. The places we visited were wonderful and the timing was perfect. I definitely recommend this experience.

Response from Host, Dec 2025

We’re delighted you had such a peaceful and well‑timed Blue Mountains experience! Derrick will be thrilled to know his thoughtful guidance made the day so enjoyable. Thank you for the recommendation!

Great Tour Guide …….Greg

Saskia_B, Nov 2025
Along with the Blue Mountains ,Greg our tour guide made the day. His passion for the out doors shone through, and his anecdotal stories brought the tour alive. Greg carefully paced the tour to the needs of the group and was happy to be photographer for the day. If you are scared of heights the trek is still definitely doable. If you don’t want to buy food in the various towns a packed lunch/dinner is a great idea . Lovely touches with Music and Chocolates- thanks Greg !

Response from Host, Nov 2025

Thank you for the lovely review! We're so glad Greg’s passion and storytelling made your Blue Mountains adventure truly special. Music, chocolates, and thoughtful pacing are just the cherry on top.

A whole lot more hiking than expected

andreahyssong, Oct 2025
We had a good experience. We were a bit disappointed in the effort to see kangaroos, I understand they are wild animals but with the minimal effort put into looking for them, I don’t think this should be put in the title of the trip. We were picked up on time, made a quick stop for lunch. Got to visit a few of the key overlooks and then taken on a very long hike down/up the side of a mountain to see the Wentworth falls. I definitely think the verbiage about the trip should include more detail about this hike as you are traversing a trail on the side of a mountain (fear of heights should be considered). The driver made a stop at McDonalds on the way home for a dinner break, not impressed.

Response from Host, Oct 2025

Thanks so much for sharing your experience. We're glad you enjoyed the scenic overlooks and sunset, and we truly appreciate your insights on the hike and wildlife expectations. Your feedback helps us improve clarity and comfort for future guests.

a scam! do no book it

Stella_P, Sep 2025
This is a scam!! I booked the WILD LIFE Tour, and by email I was told that we would go to kangaroo spots at sunset and to see koalas (although I understand they are harder to spot). I didn’t expect them to guarantee sightings, but I did expect them to take us to the proper spots. Specially since I double checked by email and they say yes. None of that happened! They put us on a regular excursion, and the guide told us he hadn’t been informed at all about going to see kangaroos, so we didn’t see any. A complete scam.

Response from Host, Sep 2025

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We sincerely apologize for the disappointment and frustration caused by your experience. We understand how important it is to receive the information and services promised, and we're sorry that we did not meet those expectations in this instance. Your feedback is valuable, and we will look into what happened to ensure clearer communication and better service in the future. Please know that we truly regret any inconvenience this has caused you.

Just fine

Stephanie_K, Aug 2025
Meh. It was fine. Nothing terribly wrong, but nothing exceptional about the experience either. I think our guide was feeling under the weather so he wasn’t super interactive with the group and didn’t say much except for a minute or two here and there. The kangaroo sighting was literally driving through a neighborhood to a random house where there were a handful of kangaroos just in the yard. It was a bit anticlimactic and a bit of a letdown. If it hadn’t been advertised and we had seen them I would have been delighted. But billing the tour as a kangaroo sighting tour was mildly misleading. The blue mountains are beautiful and the waterfall was stunning. However, no one in our group was prepared for this type of hike. It is a moderately challenging hike with A LOT of steps. After the rains the last couple of days the trails were very wet and again we just weren’t prepared for this. I’m not faulting the experience for any of the uncontrollable variables like weather or animal behavior. We made quite a few stops too (toilet stops, lunch etc.) and it just felt sort of disjointed. I got some takeaway during the lunch stop but the food was not great. So I tried another spot and was not impressed there either. Overall, it was fine, I’m glad I went, but I wouldn’t do this tour again.

Response from Host, Aug 2025

Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. I’m sorry to hear that certain aspects of the tour didn’t meet your expectations. I appreciate your honesty regarding the guide’s activity level, the kangaroo sighting, and the hike's difficulty, especially considering the weather conditions. Your comments about the disjointed stops and the lunch experience are valuable and will help us improve the overall flow and quality of the tour. While I’m glad you found the Blue Mountains beautiful, I understand it wasn’t quite the experience you were hoping for. Thank you again for your insights, and I hope your future adventures are more aligned with what you’re looking for. Vs

Amazing views and great guide

Paul_B, Aug 2025
This is a long day but it wizzed past so quickly. We were collected at 10:00 in a nice comfy mini bus. After collecting a few other people we headed out of the city to start the tour. 1st we had a very brief detour to see some wild kangaroos. Then onwards to a small town for a toilet break and to grab a coffee and some snacks around 11:40. At 12:00 we left and on to the mountains, 15 minutes later we arrived at the 1st stop for our 1st views over the valley and 1st photo opportunity. After 20 mins we got back onto the bus for a short 10 min drive and the highlight started. We walked for around 2 hours the forest stopping at various waterfalls and viewing stops - the views are jawdroppping! 2 hours sounds a long time but it was a nice pace, plenty of breaks for the views and photos. The final waterfall is down a lot of very steep steps. Greg the guide does warn you of this and gives an opportunity to wait if you wish, but there are handrails all the way down so unless you have bad mobility or balance issues it shouldn’t be that challenging. The climb up can be tiring but there is no rush and just take your time. After this last waterfall there’s a gentle 20 min walk back to the bus. We then drove to another waterfall and a quick stop at Wolf head rock maybe 20 mins away. Then the last stop was to see the 3 sisters. They try and time this for sunset, but our day was overcast so no sunset was visible. Lastly we drove maybe 10 mins to a local RSL for some dinner. This costs around $20-25 per person, but the food was really good, big portions and huge variety on offer. After dinner we headed the 1:40hr home being dropped off close to our hotel around 8:15pm. Amazing tour, we saw so much. Greg the guide was great, gave us information without being overbearing, funny and lead a great pace. Honestly one of the best tours I’ve ever done - and we’ve done a lot

Response from Host, Aug 2025

Thank you for sharing such a detailed and enthusiastic review! It sounds like you had an incredible day filled with stunning views, exciting walks, and great company. Greg sounds like a fantastic guide, balancing information, safety, and fun perfectly. It's wonderful to hear that you enjoyed the itinerary and felt it was well-paced, making the most of each stop. Your experience truly captures the essence of a memorable tour. Thanks again for recommending it-sounds like an unforgettable adventure! Cheers !

Very enjoyable and informative trip. Beautiful scenery

Helen_F, Aug 2025
Very enjoyable day out. We had two guides -Buck and Joe- which I understand is unusual. They were both knowledgeable and great fun! After taking a detour to look for wild kangaroos, where we were able to take photos, our first stop was at Grenbrook where we were advised to buy our food for the day. I was a little concerned because at first it looked as though the food choices were all bread or pastry, which looked delicious however I avoid gluten. Luckily the greengrocer has the most amazing salad choices and I also found suitable snacks in the supermarket. I mention this in case future visitors want to consider bringing their own food if they follow a special diet. The next stop was for a walk to the waterfall. This is a stunning walk, down numerous steps with breathtaking views. We had the choice whether to continue on a bit further on our own or head back up and enjoy some free time. The second walk was optional, again with amazing views and lots of lookout points. I would say it was easier than the first walk. We had some great views of the Three Sisters. Final stop was to watch the sunset over the mountains. Again, really beautiful I definitely recommend this trip as a way to explore the Blue Mountains and see wild kangaroos in an ethical way.

Response from Host, Aug 2025

Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful experience! We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed your day in the Blue Mountains and that Buck and Joe made your trip both informative and fun. It’s fantastic that you had the chance to see wild kangaroos and take some great photos—those moments are truly special. We appreciate your thoughtful feedback regarding food options, especially for guests with dietary restrictions. We’ll certainly pass this along to help future visitors plan accordingly. It’s great to know you enjoyed the scenic waterfall walk and the stunning lookout points, including the breathtaking views of the Three Sisters and the sunset. Your recommendation means a lot to us, and we’re so pleased you had such a positive and memorable day exploring the Blue Mountains ethically and beautifully. We hope to welcome you back again soon! Cheers!

Overall, this is a nice...

Anastasia_S, Jul 2025
Overall, this is a nice and relaxing trip to the Blue Mountains that I'd generally recommend. I liked the fact that we started at 10am (so you don't have an early morning start as it usually happens with such activities) and that we were a small group, something that made it easy to meet and talk to others. Additionally, I enjoyed our time in all three spots (Glenbrook, Wentworth Falls and Three Sisters/Katoomba) as well as the information provided by our tour guide/driver throughout the trip. Be mindful that hiking in the Wentworth Falls can be a bit slippery at times, so ensure that you have appropriate shoes. Finally, keep in mind that the guide doesn't go down/at the bottom of the falls with you (at least not always), but rather, he stops at some point the group hike and then gives you instructions as to how to reach to the bottom. These instructions were not particularly clear/easy to memorise, especially for one who does this trip for the first time. So, I'd recommend that you ask for more specific advice/guidance when you are at that point, or, you stick with others who have clearly understood how to reach to the bottom of the waterfalls (provided that you want to go there).

Response from Host, Jul 2025

Thanks so much for your detailed feedback! We’re glad you had a relaxing and enjoyable time exploring the Blue Mountains with the small group, stunning spots, and informative guiding. Your helpful advice about the Wentworth Falls hike is much appreciated, and we’ll certainly look at how we can make those trail instructions even clearer. Hope to welcome you again for more memorable adventures!

The view on the mountains...

Carl_E, Jul 2025
The view on the mountains at different places was fantastic, and the waterfall was gorgeous. Our guide did a great job sharing information about the locations and history in a laid back way. Further, information was well communicated in advance.

Response from Host, Jul 2025

Thanks for the kind words! We're so glad you enjoyed the stunning mountain views and that the waterfall made the day even more special. It’s great to hear the guide’s relaxed style and the clear communication helped make it a smooth and memorable experience. 🌄🦘 Hope to see you on another adventure soon!

Not for those who like minimal commentary

Kristen_N, May 2025
This would have been a fantastic tour except our guide didn’t stop talking and sang nearly the entire journey. I do not recommend if you’re not one for endless commentary.

Response from Host, Jun 2025

Thank you for sharing your feedback. I'm truly sorry to hear that your experience on the tour was significantly impacted by the guide's constant talking and singing. It sounds like this really detracted from what could have been a fantastic tour for you. We understand that every traveler has different preferences when it comes to commentary and atmosphere during a tour, and it's clear that this particular style was not to your liking. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention, as it helps us understand the diverse expectations of our guests. We will certainly take your comments into consideration as we continuously work to refine our tour experiences and guide training. Vs.

Avoid

After already being on the tour bus, the operator informed us that we would not be returning until after 10pm! This was not suitable as our flight was the next day. We had to exit the bus and were never refunded. Nobody will respond from the company. Very poor service and communication as the tour was advertised to end just after sunset.

Response from Host, Apr 2025

Thanks for your feedback. We're sorry to hear about your experience. Just to clarify, the tour returns between 9-10pm, which is actually earlier than the advertised time frame. We’re unsure why this was seen as too late, but we do understand how travel plans can be stressful. As your booking was made through Viator, we recommend contacting them directly regarding any refund requests. - MC

We had a little problem...

Terry_K, Apr 2025
We had a little problem at the first as there was 5 seats with only one person and us a couple. seems we had to sit apart for a little while and then a guy let us have his seat, so we sat together. Bus driver (tour guide) , should have found a way for us to sit together at the first. After that our tour was great, even though there was some rain and fog. Didn't even see the sunset for fog , but that was alright. If anyone is going to enjoy this tour to the fullest , they better be in good shape or they're not going to see it all. There is plenty to see and not being able to do all the walking will take away from the tour. All in all the tour guide (Derrick) was great . Well worth doing, in the end.

Derrick sounds like an excellent guide, and we appreciate you highlighting his efforts! Thank you again for your insights, and we hope to welcome you again on board.
