We left the tour feeling disappointed with the experience. The guide’s delivery was scripted and lacked flexibility, as he often declined to answer questions that didn't fit his specific timeline. He also followed a rigid schedule that didn't account for individual preferences; for example, we asked to walk the Oak Tree Boulevard when we arrived there, but he told us to get back in the van to move on to a museum at the end of the boulevard that we found unengaging. The content was also a bit of a concern. A significant amount of time was spent on local trivia, such as the opening of nearby shopping centers, rather than connecting Savannah’s development to broader American history. As history buffs, we were looking for a more thorough overview of Georgia’s past, including the history of slavery and the Jim Crow era. While we know specialized tours exist for those topics, omitting them here felt like a missed opportunity for a general history tour.

I’m probably a tour guide’s worst nightmare because I can be a bit feral, wanting to see what I want to see. But this tour was a highlight of my trip and Albert was so gracious, patient, and thoughtful, really making sure everyone had the experience they hoped for. He really knows his history and was so informative. Bonaventure was beautiful, certainly, but also Wormsloe. Incredibly special place! And the swing through the Isle of Hope was an added gem! Even if you have limited time in Savannah, if you love nature, I would make this a priority!

Ashley was a great tour guide. Not only a wealth of knowledge, but she genuinely cared that we all were safe, not getting bitten up by bugs, and of course, enjoying ourselves. The lunch at Erica Davis Lowcountry was amazing too.

Excellent service. We were picked up right at our hotel at exactly 9:00 by Dennis.
Dennis was the most amazing, friendly and knowledgeable tour guide I swear I have ever had on a tour. Not a single note in hand and his memory of dates, names and history was actually truly astounding. I actually asked him if he used to be a history teacher. His sense of humor and southern charm were very genuine. Loved him!!!

This tour introduced us to many of the people who made Savannah what it is today. Good bit of History. Bonaventure Cemetery is a very beautiful spot and we enjoyed walking among the various plots and seeing the the gravestones among the beautiful Spanish moss laden trees. Warmsloe was also enjoyable. We learned about the Tabby built buildings and seeing the long tree-lined Avenue. Two things I would suggest is a few less personal stories that were pretty long. And wash the windows on the bus. Dirty windows have a very negative effect on the whole trip.

It ended up being closer to 7 hours. The historical facts were few and far between. There was also about a 20 minute detour to look at houses on the Isle of Hope that didn't appear to have any real significance other than they were big houses.
Response from Host, Dec 2025
We hate to hear this tour was not for you. This is not a typical review of this tour however we appreciate your feedback.
Rebecca_S, Nov 2025
It’s an all day tour so make late dinner plans. There was more walking involved than I anticipated which allowed us to see more of Wormsloe than maybe some other group tours.

This is a tour with walking intervals. It is not a strenuous walk but more of a stroll through beautiful countryside. Very interesting and well worth the time.
Response from Host, Nov 2025

susan_s, Nov 2025
Good learning experience, beautiful natural history, good guide. Worth doing. Cemetery not quite as impressive as advertised - worth seeing but less time unless you value repeated glorification of Confederate soldiers and their iron cross paraphernalia. Confederate flags at state-run museum too worth seeing because it’s disgraceful but real.
Response from Host, Nov 2025
We are pleased to to hear you enjoyed touring with us. Thank you for choosing Gray Line.
karina_h, Nov 2025
Dennis was a very knowledgeable guide with a good sense of humor who kept the stories coming and the conversation flowing. He was also ready to answer any question the guests might have.
The tour of Bonaventure Cemetery was a highlight. Dennis weaved together stories of Savannah’s prominent people with details about the craftsmen tasked with creating their opulent tombstones.
It’s a photographer’s paradise with its live oaks, palms and other greenery.
The fried shrimp lunch at Erica Davis Lowcountry was delish and fun.
Wormsloe plantation was also very interesting and beautiful and Dennis did a wonderful job explaining the area’s significance. But it was disconcerting to see the museum omit any meaningful information about the plantation’s abundant use of enslaved people. Despite that disappointment, the grounds and the vegetation are lovely.
It was a great way to spend a day in Savannah.

The guide the very knowledge about the history of Savannah. Really enjoyed the Bonaventure but wish we could have looked around on our own for a little. The entrance to Wormsloe was breathtaking. The cookies were a nice treat.

We had Albert as a guide. He was extremely knowledgeable and had many good stories to weave into the tour. It was interesting getting out of Savannah's historic district and seeing some of the outer areas including the Isle of Hope.

Our guide Tim was very qualified with lots of knowledge. Kelly Tours took good care of us and offered us pickup first thing in the morning. Excellent!
We had a fantastic lunch at the Driftaway Cafe’, a highlight! I did not realize this was a walking tour once we got to our destination. Perhaps I should’ve read that somewhere. There was a fair amount of walking on uneven terrain. Good to know for anyone with disabilities or a bum knee.
Although Tim was knowledgeable, kind and patient, “Boyd” was a little long-winded with personal stories and accounts. I would’ve welcomed a snapshot of the historical figures and their significance to Savannah on such a long, hot day. Too much standing around is one of my pet peeves when it comes to tours in general.
Overall, I would recommend this tour since it’s one of the few available that visit Wormsloe. A beautiful, must-see while in Savannah!
