This experience I'd fantastic! Starting from motortaxi, passing by different spots incl. Capoeira, local schools and cathedral (also the origin of Rocinha), narrow ways etc.. The guide shares us a lot regarding the local life, the cultura. An impressing tour!

We had an amazing time at the Favela with our guide, Carolina. She was the best tour guide I've had in my travels all over. She was extremely knowledgeable, spoken perfect English, answered our unending questions and has a big heart. She even took extra time with us after the tour to show us where an additional place was. The favela tour itself was amazing! My husband was nervous about going, but couldn't stop raving about it afterwards. As tourist, we rarely have the opportunity to get a "rea" up close and personal view into the lives of those outside of the tourist areas. But on this tour, we learned about the day-to-day practices of those living in this neighborhood. My husband was even able to play soccer with some teenagers, who were very good at the sport.

La visite en elle-même permettait de découvrir un autre aspect de Rio. Cependant, plusieurs éléments nous ont mitigés. Tout d’abord, le guide nous a demandé de payer 5 reals par personne après être resté sur une terrasse, ce qui n’était pas mentionné dans la description de l’activité. De plus, lors des arrêts dans la favela, de nombreuses fois une pression implicite était exercée afin de donner des pourboires aux habitants, ce qui nous rendait mal à l’aise. Nous comprenons l’importance de soutenir les communautés locales, mais l’insistance a créé un malaise au lieu d’un échange authentique. Un peu plus de transparence dans l’organisation de la visite aurait été appréciable. Il ne s’agit en aucun cas une question d’argent mais de principe.
