There was great variety. Guide was very animated and helpful and courteous. We saw a lot and had a great lunch. Very good value. I loved our visit to the market and we had our own tourist policeman to keep us safe from the traffic. Much more than a half day though.

I did this excursion on my first full day in Punta Cana, and I had the best time! Tito and Robinson were great tour guides, and I appreciated all of the information they gave. As a solo traveler, I also felt like they (and the rest of the group) were super accommodating and helpful! I would highly recommend. My two favorite parts: the church and the house.

Overview

This tour is a great way to see the traditional side of the Dominican Republic. Many tourists only see the resort side of the country, but this tour shows the country's history and culture. Start your day in Higüey, one of the most popular cities in the country. There you will visit the Basilica and the Dominican Market, where you can get to better understand Dominican culture and society. After lunch it's time to visit Anamuya River, where you will have time to swim, enjoy nature and even slide on a 100 foot natural slide into the river.

Immerse yourself in Dominican culture and nature on this half-day guided tour from Punta Cana. This convenient tour combines several different attractions and activities with transfers and food.

Your day starts with pickup from your Punta Cana hotel. Travel to Higuey by air-conditioned vehicle. At your first stop, go horseback riding at a ranch. You'll also visit the Basilica of Higuey and browse the local market.

At the Anamuya River, you can swim, play on the natural water slide, and savor a lunch of typical Dominican fare. Afterwards, learn about the coffee, cocoa, and tobacco industries at a local house and factory, and stop at an art school.

The last stop of the tour will be at Macao Beach, where you can relax on the sand, or enjoy a swim in the ocean, before getting dropped off at your hotel.

Amazing experience definitely worth it

Tour was outstanding we saw so much of the island we wouldn’t have if we never went on the tour! Worth every penny, got too see not just the tourist parts but also the local culture. Sandy the driver was awesome and our guide was incredible and made sure everyone was taken care of the whole time.

5th star is for the food! Rice and beans and fried yuca were delicious! Robinson and Sandy were wonderful guides. “No blah blah blah no Mickey Mouse” lol It was also a great value with everything that we saw. I do think the beach may have been overkill after such a long day.

Overall a great experience. I feel the tour was a bit rushed and not as informative as the previous excursion that was exactly the same but I felt it was OK. The lunch stop was good with plenty to see and enjoy. The church was the best part of the excursion and well worth it. Our driver / tour guide was fine but I didn't appreciate the Macao beach parrot and iguana placement on my family as this is an extortion of money taking pictures with your own camera and I strictly told the guide I wasn't interested in animals being held out of captivity and used for profit and this didn't happen and my wishes weren't respected.

Although the hours listed were 7-12pm we had a full day tour. It was the best excursion we could've chosen. There were 8 of us in an air conditioned van, we all got along & had a ton of laughs. The house ride is good for novices and experts, it's just a quick loop with pictures. The market is a produce & meat market only, you will see butchered animals. The lunch was delicious and our guide made use avocado with lime & salt on the fly. The river was disappointing for me as it had a lot of trash. The typical home was a great insight to daily life. Our Tour Guide was Wester Martinez, he was friendly, knowledgeable, accommodating personable and safe. We recommend this tour and the tour guide to have a great time.

Amazing tour!

The tour was fantastic from start to finish. Our guide Wester Martinez was so knowledgeable and really went the extra mile to ensure we didn't feel rushed, we were well catered for in a modern air-conditioned vehicle. The tour was only 7 people (two of us and another family) so it felt very personal. The places we stopped at weren't over crowded so you didn't feel rushed or overwhelmed. Whilst Dominican Republic is very meat heavy as expected, there was also a vegetarian spaghetti option along with salad and assorted fruit so nobody goes hungry. Lots of yummy rum if wanted, but soft drinks and water were also offered. Would thoroughly recommend this tour and hope Wester gets the recognition he deserves as he is a credit to the company and Dominican Republic. Wester also took the time to contact me the day before the tour and took lots of pictures and sent them through WhatsApp which was a really lovely touch and memories kept alive.

Great small group cultural tour with a friendly guide

We appreciated the friendliness of our local tour guide and the small size of our group (8). We travelled with a 5month old baby and were able to do most of the activities, minus the horseback riding. The lunch provided was very tasty and our tour guide even stopped on the way to purchase a fresh avocado after we chatted about it in the van so we could taste them ourselves. If there was any con, that would be the number of stops we had to make. Maybe one less stop would have made this trip more baby friendly. But overall a very doable excursion with a baby

The tour was great! So much packed into a day for a great price. Very safe and authentic. Our tour guide Robinson, was awesome! My only complaint was that the tour is marketed as a half-day, but plan for a full day. We were off property from 8am - 4pm, not the 5 hours they claimed, so don’t make other plans.

Definitely worth it!

This is a great excursion! If you can request Francisco, he’s the best! Very knowledgeable as he grew up in the Dominican and we even go through his town where he said he knows everyone and waved and said hello to many! The countryside is beautiful, something you don’t see while at the resort, and seeing the small towns and how they live is an eye opener. They don’t have much but they are happy and hard working people. We learned a lot about the way they live and the fruits, vegetables, coffee, cacao beans etc that they harvest. Definitely would do this trip again! And Francisco is the best guide!

His knowledge of everything we were touring was very useful informative and he made it lots of fun. Great tour of Higüey, Macao Beach, and local culture

We really enjoyed this excursion and felt it was a great way to experience several different parts of the Dominican Republic in one day. The stops were all interesting and gave a nice variety, from the Higüey market and basilica to Macao Beach and the river. The coffee, vanilla, cocoa, and fruit tasting was also a nice touch and helped highlight local culture. Our tour guide, Teo, brought great energy to the trip and you can tell he really cares about his country and takes pride in sharing it with visitors. The only thing I would change is the pickup and drop-off logistics. We were the first picked up at 7:00 AM and ended up being the last people dropped off, which made for a very long day for us. The excursion itself is advertised as about four hours, but with all the pickups and drop-offs it ends up being closer to double that. It’s not a huge issue, just something for travelers to keep in mind. Overall though, we had a great time and would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to see more of the area outside the resorts.

Communication as where to be wasn’t completely clear and stressful. But once we figured it out by asking a lot of questions at the resort it was smooth going. Our tour guide was amazing, fun, informative and patient with waiting around on us to finishing what we were doing at each location. We felt like we left doing a little bit of everything. It was a great time, highly recommend. Make sure to be in contact with your guide sooner than later with exactly where to meet. They do go to all resorts. When booking it doesn’t give you all options just pick one and then reach out.
