Loved that it was a small group, a total of 6 people. Our tour guide, Eduardo was very pleasant and accommodating. We had to pay $1 donation to enter the Basilica, and he paid for two passengers who did not have cash. It was awesome visiting with the locals, seeing inside a typical Dominican home and eating a Dominican home cooked meal, which was delicious. We were treated with some sugarcane which I loved. We also visited a primary school and Eduardo got us some mangoes.
From beginning to end the excursion was great. One of the best excursions I have been on. The night before the company let us know what time our pick up time was which was great and very accurate. Our tour guide was amazing and very knowledgeable about the Dominican Republic, he spoke English, Spanish, and French. I can’t remember his name but I know he was a police officer, hopefully if you go you get him :). It was very nice seeing outside of the tourist area, we went to the famous Catholic Church, a school, a shop, the market, a lady house, Macao beach, and as a group we decided not to do horse back riding. We had lunch at this restaurant which was originally supposed to be at the lady’s house but that didn’t happen unfortunately due to certain circumstances but our driver made it right and we still got lunch. Overall the experience was a 5/5. Highly recommend!

We had a wonderful tour with Andy who speaks wonderful English and is very knowledgeable about the area as well as local Dominican culture. We participated as a family with two children age 11 and 15 and it was a very memorable experience for everyone, so much was packed into one day but we did not feel rushed. I like that we were able to make many visits and sample local products but there was not pressure to purchase. It was more about seeing how things are made, and getting a sense of how people live in the area around Punta Cana. We visited the iconic church, local market, rolled cigars, tasted fresh macao, had a delicious home cooked lunch, visited a beautiful local beach (better conditions than our hotel due to sargassum) and horse back riding, all this and we were done before 3pm. We chose to stay longer at the beach and uber back to our hotel because it was so beautiful there. Wonderful service and communication throughout. Even if we had rented a car there is no way we would have uncovered so many hidden gems and so efficiently. Thank you!

Warning... long post but MUST READ! DEEPLY DISAPPOINTED IN VIATOR and the "operator" of this tour. We booked this tour with family members (5 in their family, 4 in ours) for a special Father's Day outing. We showed up promptly at 7:00 am for pick up. The van was there waiting. The driver had their family's name but not ours? Despite having my confirmation booking number, proof of payment, etc, the director had no record of us. Thinking perhaps it was some snafu with Viator, and us not wanting to miss the trip, we discussed with the van driver, who was extremely helpful, agreed we would pay for the trip AGAIN ask for a refund later, and he would arrange a second van since this one would not fit all of us. At approximately 8:00 am, a second van came and we were on our way. It was a nice day, friendly people and we had fun. Please keep in mind, we left AFTER 8:00 am for a 7:00 am tour and NO OTHER vans were there to pick anyone up. Also PLEASE keep in mind the minute we left the resort I had ZERO cell service.... Fast forward to the end of the day... we return back to the resort to see missed calls and WhatsApp messages (which I don't have WhatsApp so it was difficult to respond) on my phone starting at 8:16 this morning from THIS company(?) asking where we were? Where we were...? We were there at 7:00 am!!! Thinking that van was YOU! SO essentially where were you??? You were late, we had no idea this company we toured with wasn't the one we booked with, YOU were late and didn't notify us!!? So I requested a refund thru Viator, at which time I received all sorts of snarky messages from this tour company... how dare we ask for our money back? Because we paid twice! Then Viator fully rejected our request because this operator denied it? I'm sorry, we had absolutely NO IDEA this company was running over an hour late, that this company was not the company my family booked through, and that this company wasn't our tour guide the morning of!!! This is extremely unfair! We're out $240.00 because they were an hour and 15 minutes late. We were at the gate the entire time waiting and had we seen any other van (there was NONE) we would have inquired. So buyer beware with these guys... first off, if you book with a group make SURE you're all in the same tour company and secondly make sure if you don't even get to go on THEIR tour they're not going to keep ALL YOUR MONEY and not compromise or even offer a partial refund!! Personally, I will not tour with Viator again.

We sincerely regret that this situation occurred, and we understand your frustration. However, we would like to clarify a few points to avoid any further confusion.
When several people are planning to take an excursion together, it is very important that everyone books with the same company and under the same reservation or confirmation, since different operators may have different schedules, vehicles, and pickup procedures.
In our case, whenever we arrive to pick up our customers, we identify them by name. In addition, we send our guests their pickup information and scheduled time the day before the excursion. This allows our customers to know exactly what to expect and to confirm that they are waiting for the correct operator.
We would also like to clarify that when a reservation is not used due to a misunderstanding or a situation that was not caused by our company, unfortunately, we cannot always provide a full refund. The excursion is prepared in advance, usually starting the day before: we arrange and pay for the guide, assign the driver and vehicle, purchase fuel, and organize all the necessary services for our guests.
These expenses are incurred regardless of whether the passenger ultimately uses the service. For that reason, it would be very difficult and also unfair for a small company to absorb all of these costs when the situation results from confusion between different reservations or operators.
We completely understand that nobody wants to lose money, and we are sorry that this confusion occurred. Our intention is never to disadvantage any customer, but rather to cover the costs that have already been committed to ensure that the excursion was prepared and available for you.
To help prevent situations like this in the future, we especially recommend that groups make sure everyone has booked with the same operator and that the company name, pickup time, and pickup details have been confirmed the day before.
Loved the tour! Great authentic experience of the culture and the tour guide was very helpful and knowledgeable. The only downfall was the transportation timing; we stayed at the Vista Sol Punta Cana and were the first to be picked up and last to be dropped off, totaling to three hours just in transit. So what was it supposed to be a five hour excursion turned out to be eight hours. Other than that, we love the tour! So if you’re staying at that resort or a surrounding resort, just make room for the transit timing.

Best excursion on the island. I learned so much today! My son and I didn’t know what to expect but we had a great time! Our tour guide Osvldo was amazing, he and Francis are a great duo! We definitely recommend 10/10!

Horrible time, our day started out at 7:20 from our hotel. Then we spent 2.5 hours picking up people on a bus that had limited cushions and windows that rolled up. The. We went to a cigar place where we did roll our own cigar but we sated at the souvenir store for way too long. Then we went to the market where we just walked fast through only to go to another souvenir shop where agin we stayed too long. Then we went to a school where school was in session but it seemed ackward because it was like the were being exploited. Stayed there too long. Then we went to the church where we were there for five minutes. We then went to a creek that was filled with garbage. Then we were transported back to the hotel in a fan with no air.. we got back to our hotel at 3:00. This was suppose to be half day but being gone 7.5 hours was a full day. Was not enjoyable. We travel a lot and this was by far the worst excursion we have taken. I do not recommend this trip.

I am very sorry that you did not like this excursion. Unlike all our clients, the pickups always start at 7:00 a.m. because it is a shared group. You did not pay for a private excursion, and everything else you ended up defining is part of the reality of our country. We regret not sugarcoating the daily life of the majority of Dominicans. We sell reality, nothing fake.
This tour is to enjoy from the moment you get on the bus until you arrive at your hotel. We present to you the reality of Dominicans.
We had Osvaldo as our tour guide and he was great!! Very knowledgeable and made us feel like we’re family. This tour was a great experience to immerse yourself more into the Dominican culture. Our driver was also very friendly. 10/10 recommend

Oswaldo was a great guide, very knowledgeable, the driver (sorry, forgot the name) was very nice and helpful. The reason I left 3 starts is because Macao beach was listed on itinerary and we never went there, also "city" trip is just a quick walk through the market.

The trip to the city begins from the moment you leave the city. From when you start seeing the schools in the rural area and then the horses. I understand the part you say about the journey being short, there you are referring to the market. The time at the beach is short and it is strange that they didn't go because nobody informed us about that day. The beach only closes due to bad weather.
Danilo was an awesome tour guide and was very informative. He made the day fun and interesting. The stops we made were great, horseback riding the church at Higuey, the sovenier shops, the walk through the market, the local food by the river, cigar shop and the best part the beach all made the day worth it. Would definitely recommend!! Definitely no mickey mouse thing lol

We came to the Dominican and stayed at a resort but wanted to book an excursion to see the real culture of the country. Osvaldo our guide was extremely knowledgeable and our driver Fansisco. It was a 1/2 day and there was no rush. Osvaldo really wanted to show you all things. From the market- horseback riding in the country, original cigar factory and also made one ourselves and the famous church in the big city. We also visited a home where the lady let us tour her house and all the gardens she has to make organic things not to mention he fed us an authentic DR lunch that was amazing . This was an excellent experience. Just what we wanted to see. Osvaldo would also make sure to take pictures of you at each location and didn’t try to sell you photos but by doing it with your phone which we appreciated. We tipped him well because it was worth it !!

This tour exceeded my expectations. I actually booked the tour strictly because they went to a cigar factory. I knew they were going to other places, but I thought it would be quick stops with slight information, but it was really in-depth and felt like we were outside all day going to different parts of cities learning about Dominican farming and culture. I had so much fun and I have no complaints at all.

Oswaldo, our guide, and Jesus, our driver, made this an A+ experience from start to finish. We were off to a little rocky start with seating 10 people in the van, but everyone was nice and considerate, and we had a great time. The stops were wonderful, and Oswaldo made sure we got to see and do what we wanted on the trip. This tour was probably the highlight of our trip, and we’re grateful to the two of them for making it so.

Great experience on this tour. We visited a farm with horseback riding, the Basilica, the local market in Punta Cana (which was my favorite because of the diversity!) a Cocao Plantation, Cigar Making Shop, a wonderful restaurant next to a river and a public beach. Our guides were amazing with Luis Garcia being our driver and Donelo giving us the history behind our visits. Luis was personable, hilarious and full of life! He made the trip so much fun! Know that there is a lot of driving, so it does extend the time. I was picked up on the far side of Cap Cana at 7:10am and returned back around 4pm. Communication was great! I would definitely do this again. It gave me a true view of Dominican Life, Food and Culture.

Our trip to Punta Cana was unforgettable, and the half-day city tour my husband booked through Viator turned out to be the highlight of our vacation!
We got to experience so much in just half a day , horseback riding, visiting the stunning basilica and exploring local markets. Our tour guide, Osvaldo, truly made the experience special. He knew all the best spots for photos and made sure we captured beautiful memories every step of the way.
One of the most unique parts was learning how cigars are made and make one ourselves such an incredible hands-on experience! And the food… absolutely delicious. Everything we tasted was amazing, and the service was top-notch.
As I write this, I’m reliving every moment. Osvaldo treated us like family, and the Dominican Republic welcomed us with such warmth and hospitality. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience

Our trip took 8 hours so closer to a full day. Didn’t help that it was a one hour drive to and from the “rally point” where we tranfered to the actual tour truck. Guide and driver were nice. While seeing the countryside was worthwhile there was very little information shared about the actual history culture and what we were seeing at any given point in time. A few of the labels on stops were a bit disingenuous. The cigar factory was a cigar shop - no information on the history of tobacco, how cigars are made and what types there might be. The cocoa - coffee - local house was a single stop. No tour or information of the local house and the information on how coffee and chocolate are made there was no tie into the history or culture.

It was a great way to see the culture and the way of life of some of the people in the Dominican Republic. If you use the washroom at the church, make sure to buy toilet paper on your way in! The farm and the plantation were the highlight for me. And the cigar factory was very interesting. Beautiful scenery and knowledgeable guide. Was a great way to spend the first half of the day!

It was an awesome way to see Dominican Republic from a native perspective. Our tour guide Papi was very knowledgeable and he was funny. He kept the tour light and fun, never a dull moment. We experienced many aspects in the day and the life of a Dominican. The lunch was amazing . I would recommend this tour . The downside was the vehicle needed to be cleaned out and washed before the tour .

My cultural tour in Higüey, Dominican Republic with Osvaldo was truly one of the highlights of my trip! From start to finish, it was an authentic and unforgettable experience.
Osvaldo was an incredible guide—knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly passionate about sharing the beauty and culture of the Dominican Republic. He made everyone feel comfortable and ensured we experienced the real local lifestyle, not just the tourist version.
The tour had so many unique and memorable moments. We enjoyed a peaceful horseback ride through the countryside, which was absolutely beautiful. Visiting the local farm was fascinating—we learned how Dominican cigars are made and got to see the process of coffee and chocolate making firsthand. Everything was fresh, local, and delicious!
One of my favorite parts was walking through the local market, where we got to see everyday Dominican life and try authentic products. The traditional Dominican lunch was incredible—flavorful, homemade, and a perfect way to experience the local cuisine.
We also had time to stop for souvenirs and pictures, capturing some amazing memories along the way. Osvaldo made sure everyone was enjoying themselves and never rushed the experience.
If you’re visiting Higüey, I highly recommend taking this cultural tour with Osvaldo. It’s the perfect way to truly connect with the Dominican culture, people, and traditions. This wasn’t just a tour—it was an experience I’ll remember forever!

The Half Day Cultural Tour in Punta Cana was a great experience. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the local culture, history, and everyday life in the Dominican Republic. Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and took the time to explain everything along the way.
We visited different local spots, learned about traditional products, and got to see how some of them are made. The tour was well organized, the transportation was comfortable, and everything felt safe and welcoming.
If you’re visiting Punta Cana and want to experience more than just the resort, this tour is definitely worth doing!
