      Disappointing experience

      Mindy_M, Jul 2026
The guide was hard to understand. We asked questions along the way and he dodged answer saying: I’ll tell you later. He pointed out Statues of people friendly to Jews but not Jewish themselves. We did not see the holocaust museum/jewish museum. We did see a menorah in the back of a hotel, and a synagogue. Would have been a better experience had we met Jewish people, a kosher butcher, observed a Jewish school, Jewish cemetery than walk and walk only to be lectured about what was, not what is. Guide was humorless and not interesting in the least. Big big disappointment!

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I'm genuinely sorry that the tour did not meet your expectations. I would, however, like to clarify a few points. Jewish history is not only the history of Jews themselves. In Norway, it is also the story of the people who stood by the Jewish community and helped secure its future. This is why the tour includes monuments and locations connected with both Jewish history and those who played an important role in it. I carefully reviewed the tour description after reading your review. It does not include visits to either the Holocaust Center, which is located well outside the city center, or the Jewish Museum. Unfortunately, the Jewish Museum is currently closed for long-term renovation, making a visit impossible. You mentioned that I spoke too much about the past. However, this is a tour about the history of the Jewish community in Norway, so historical events naturally form its main focus. Since this was a private tour, I would have been happy to adapt the discussion to your interests had I known you wanted to focus more on contemporary Jewish life. The menorah we visited is connected with events from just ten years ago and is, in my opinion, very much part of modern Jewish life in Oslo. You also mentioned that you would have liked to visit a kosher butcher. Unfortunately, Norway has not had one for almost a century because kosher slaughter has long been prohibited. As for a Jewish school, there is no Jewish day school in Norway, and in any case your visit took place during the summer holidays. Finally, I was sorry to learn that even the visit to Norway's oldest synagogue did not leave a positive impression. The synagogue is not normally open to visitors, and it was opened especially for you, which should be considered as a unique opportunity. I appreciate your comments and wish you all the best in your future travels.

Rami’s tour was comprehensive and informative. He shared his knowledge of Norwegian history to provide context for the experience of the Jewish people in the past and present. He is responsive to questions and is an engaging tour guide.

We had a wonderful tour with Rami! He customized our tour to fit our needs and interests and gave such a nicely balanced history of Norway for our first visit. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone interested!

DO NOT MISS this powerful tour!

On a recent trip to Oslo, I was supremely fortunate to have a private tour with Rami Kafarov. He brought the Jewish history of Norway to vivid life in an understated, superbly prepared and organized way. He is a polymath, multilingual, multitalented, and deeply conversant with the country's Jewish history. Do not miss this tour. It will move you deeply. Also, he is shy about the brief but phenomenal photo-book he created--ask him about it and buy one for all your friends! He has juxtaposed current Oslo and historic pictures of Jewish life in an uncanny and powerful way.
