Great tour, good food

Ezgi_E, Mar 2026
I wanted to do this tour as I love to see the real habits and culture of a county that i visit. Clara was very good in navigating us through the market. She gave the group options as well so that we can do the tour in a way that suits us best. I learned a lot about the market and ate AMAZING food. I would not be able to do this tour on my own. Thank you

Delicious and informative

Robert_M, Nov 2025
Nico was a terrific guide. Very informative regarding the food and culture of the market, we experienced a lovely variety of traditional and unusual foods. We’d highly recommend this tour and Nico in particular.

Tried a lot of really interesting and unique foods. We tried to go to the market on our own. Was a disaster, couldn't find anything. The tour was such a game changer. It really let us experience the market how locals would. Highly recommend.

Safe and Fun experience through LaMerced

Jennifer_K, Mar 2025
I think it'd be really really hard to have a bad meal in CDMX over all - there are SO many great options. Our tour guide was Hector, who has a background in culinary arts, gave some historical (it's over 700 years old and many vendors are nth generation owners), personal (getting lost when he was a kid at LaMerced with his mom), and culinary education (the many types of dried chiles, which i regret not buying; mole, etc) for us. I would never try to navigate my own way through Merced for many reasons, namely the many many stands that exist in that place. The tour really knows their vendors and i felt completely safe the entire time. If you are questioning whether or not you want to visit LaMerced and you are an adventurous eater, i'd say pull the trigger and book this tour. I ate in places that i normally would never have tried on my own. Will definitely book one of their other tours, too, the next time i return!

Never showed up.

dawn_h, Nov 2024
Guide never showed up, never contacted us, before or after, I know it was a holiday but they should not have booked a tour if it was not going to happen, long walk to get there and wait 30 min for nothing.

One of a kind experience through La Mercad

Florija_E, Oct 2024
What a special way to roam this massive market in the heart of Mexico city ! The small group allows you to really have an intimate experience to ask questions, navigate the area without worrying of being cut off by the narrow lanes and busyness of it all! Our tour guide, Adrian, was wonderful. He had alot of experience and knowledge in the culinary field and was able to connect with myself and others on the tour, highlighting the uniqueness of the markets itself, the foods we were trying and was extremely helpful in all areas. Thank you! I definitely recommend to book this tour if it is your first time at the market, in order to not miss out on the local favourites !

We had a great time on the food tour with Clara! She guided us around, explained all about the food and the market. We recommend going on the tour!

La Merced Food Tour—Great Experience

This was a great experience! Hector was a terrific and informative guide, all the food was so delicious. I would definitely take this tour again

Learning history and culture through food.

Johnny_M, Mar 2024
Nico was an excellent and knowledgeable tour guide. This is a must do experience for anyone who likes to learn about the culture and history of a place through food. There was plenty to eat, and you can be assured the company has done their homework in advance to know exactly which vendors to visit. I would not recommend this for folks traveling with children.

Yimnah was an excellent guixe

RolandChunMan_F, Jan 2024
Yimnah was an excellent tour guide for the duration of the experience. La Merced can be quite an overwhelming experience for people new to the city and she provided an informative and relaxing tour!

A great trip for a good adventure

Nancy_J, Dec 2023
Jima was an excellent guide! She knows Mexico City well, told us many great stories about the foods and how/when people eat them. We got lots of food on our tour and were able to try such a great variety of foods! The pace was good for the chaos of a Saturday market. I’d highly recommend!

book this tour!

jacqueline_m, Oct 2023
Yimnah was the best at explaining history, food, and culture. We learned a lot about the market and it’s history and its present state. She was so attentive and helpful, as well as kind and funny. We had a really great time and will think about and cherish this experience for years to come!

Excellent tour guide

Lauren_B, Oct 2023
Our tour guide was excellent! She did a great job of explaining how the food fit in with the culture and history of Mexico.

Great time, great food!

Adrian_N, Jul 2023
Adrian was a great host and extremely knowledgeable. Only thing better was the food, there were many stops and the food just kept getting better.

The Tastiest Tour!

Heidi_R, Jun 2023
We had such a great time on this food tour with Yimnah! It ended up just being my boyfriend and me which was very special. She was funny, kind and very knowledgeable. We'd have been absolutely lost in the market without her guidance and even though we were stuffed at the end I still felt it was an accessible amount of food aka not too much. I would recommend this tour to anyone wanting to try some authentic market food!

Don’t miss this tour!

Margaret_B, May 2023
Absolutely recommend this tour for anyone that wants to learn about the Mexican culture through food. Nikko was an outstanding guide!

What an experience

Samantha_G, May 2023
What an experience! Tonalli was our host and she answered all our questions, taught us so much and guided us through the maze that is La Merced. We tried so many foods, and saw so many vendors! It was a bit overwhelming at times, but that's how it is! It was worth it just to try all the mole (that was my favorite stop).

Our favorite experience in Mexico City

Jane_H, Mar 2023
I cannot recommend this experience enough - especially with our guide Adrian!! Adrian (and the company Eat Mexico) has been conducting this tour for many years, and the massive amount of experience and knowledge is very clear. (This listing is just new to Viator, if you're wondering why there aren't so many reviews yet) La Merced is a massive market, one of the biggest in Mexico City. I got lost instantly and would not have been able to navigate at all without Adrian. It was much more enjoyable to not have to worry about navigation, and just follow Adrian to the best spots. The story and history behind each food item was what made this tour feel above and beyond for me. Adrian is so knowledgeable, answered every single question we had (and we had a lot), and I could tell he is really passionate about Mexico City's food and food culture. On top of everything, he greeted so many people around the market by name, it was obvious that he is really a well-liked regular at the market. The tour itself is about 4 hours long, and our group was just 4 people which I felt was the perfect size. Come hungry! The food is delicious, diverse, and plentiful. My partner and I ate everything and were extremely full by the end. And if you do want more food at any of the stops you can just ask your guide, and they will hook you up, no extra charge required. I can't wait to try another one of Eat Mexico's tours next time we return to Mexico City. Thank you so much Adrian!

Amazing and unforgettable tour

Pascal_H, Mar 2023
It was an amazing and unforgettable tour of about 4h through parts of La Merced. We were a group of 3 people (4 is the maximum group size) and our tour guide was super nice, friendly and informative giving in depth information about the market. At several market stalls we got to taste various tacos, insects and mole... it was fully worth the money and i would recommend it to anyone visiting Mexico city!

Informative, filling tour

Brad_S, Feb 2023
We ate a lot of good food, and the tour guide was very informative. We took the 9am tour which was a bit early for that much food. The guide nicely waited for us as we were running 15 minutes late.

Great tour of La Merced

Jill_S, Apr 2022
Had a great time on this tour. Lots of explore and plenty to eat. Hector was a great host and made sure my 13-year old son felt included the whole time.

Must have experience in CDMX

Shana_B, Mar 2022
This was my first journey to Mercado de Merced and CDMX in general. I highly recommend this experience. I would never have been able to navigate this market without a guide. Hector was the best, he is informative not just about the food but also the culture of CDMX. This is the best deal to get the best eats in the city. You can eat as much as you want! Though, I highly recommend pacing yourself. There are lots to try! I will forever dream fondly about those suarez tacos. Come on an empty stomach!

COME HUNGRY, LEAVE STUFFED!!

Logan_D, Jan 2022
I CANNOT recommend this tour enough. YOU MUST DO THIS TOUR IN MEXICO CITY!!! Tour guide Adrian was so kind & full of interesting information. We felt really safe with him as two young women. Everything he had us eat absolutely delicious (tacos with french fries in them, helloooo!!) and you could tell all the vendors were friends with him. This was the highlight of our trip, not only because of all the yummy cultural food but also because of everything we learned about La Merced and Mexican history. Seriously, do this tour!! Note, the company that runs this tour, Eat Mexico, has been around for about 12 years. They only just joined Viator, if you're wondering about # of reviews. Highly highly recommend!!!

Si bien el guía estuvo en...

Luciano_F, Jul 2023
¿Qué pasa si yo no entiendo inglés? No deberían brindar esa opción de tour si saben de ante mano que no se va a cumplir. Es un tour costoso como para no disfrutarlo al 100%.
