The markets were impressive . Definitely needed a tour guide to maneuver it and Dennise was great. She anticipated our every need and kept asking us if we needed anything.. The food selection was amazing and plentiful. We enjoyed all 3 markets. The mexcal tasting at the last market was a special treat. We tasted a variety of mezcales with different critters including scorpions, worms and others. It was well worth the money. Dennise even gave us keepsakes from our tour. I highly recommend this tour.

This tour is amazing, you get taken around 3 markets with lots of explanations of the various ingredients and foods. Ivan is great and really knowledgeable. Certainly a great experience I am glad I didn’t miss out on.

Having had a fabulous food tour in Oaxaca a week earlier we found this tour disappointing. The guide was a delight, but there was no discussion about the vast varieties of fruits and vegetables in the markets. We had little sampling of sweets and some more substantial tastings, but nothing memorable

We just completed an exceptional guided food markets tour that was both delicious and genuinely enriching. Our guide shared insights in clear, manageable portions that made it easy to absorb the deeper cultural significance of Mexico’s markets while also learning about everyday life in Mexico City, from transportation to local customs. The tastings were perfectly paced and thoughtfully portioned, and each of the three markets revealed a distinct side of Mexican culture. Attentive, knowledgeable, and engaging throughout, our guide made the entire experience feel seamless and memorable.

Great experience braving the heart of the Mercado where we would not have likely gone alone. Our guides were informative and fun. We got to try lots of new things: dry mole/local fruits/corn fungus and squash blossom quesadillas. I recommend this tour if you want to see more of how the locals live.

We loved our guide, Ivan. There were 7 of us and at least 1/2 had health problems that necessitated frequent stops to rest because of orthopedic problems. He was so accommodating and we appreciated that immensely. Ivan is very sweet and personable, with a very warm smile. We had great meals that allowed us to sample Mexico City’s regional food. Although the walk was long, (probably 3+ miles) it was manageable for a 71 year old woman who had a total knee replacement 6 months prior.

You get to eat foods you have never had in the US including tarantula infused mezcal. Great tómales, sweets & quesadillas. Our guide,Ivan, was phenomenal—knowledgeable, able to provide context , enthusiastic, funny and easy to understand. Can’t say enough good things about him!

An endless abundance of information and tastings from the start to the finish. The market tour provided my wife and I with a perspective of Mexico we will never forget!

I really enjoyed this tour. Communication was excellent, the itinerary was well organized, and our guide navigated the market confidently while keeping the group safe and together. We sampled a great variety of foods and drinks and saw far more of the market than we ever could have on our own.
Transportation costs for the subway and bus were included, and the tour began with a helpful overview of how to get around the city. Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and happy to answer every question along the way.
A quick tip: stay mindful of your belongings in crowded areas. Someone in our group had a brief pickpocket attempt but quickly recovered their phone. It reinforced how valuable it was to experience the market with a guided tour.
Overall, a fantastic experience—highly recommended.

Ivan was an excellent guide and his assistants kept the group together. He was happy to answer questions, very friendly. The food was very good and plentiful.

We joined this tour on our first day and had such an authentic wonderful time, from seeing how tacos were made from scratch to tasting different type of local favourites, from food to fruits to drinks (coffee, local drinks and mezcal), while learning the history and culture of Mexicans.
Our guide Orson also showed us the area where tourists don’t get to go: the area where they sell black magic and voodoo spells and portion, which is an eye opening experience for us.
What amazed us is the good hygiene. Orson is the most thoughtful guide we have came across (after traveling to 56 counties). He gets the hands sanitiser ready for us before food is served, and wet tissues ready when we were about to finish our food, disposable spoons ready for us to taste different kinds of moles and chilli’s and sweets, and a trash bag ready our use. Most importantly, clean and free washroom for our breaks! He is also very honest in telling us that we can get cheaper mezcal in Oaxaca than México city.
Without a doubt, the tour ended with mezcal tasting at the gourmet market which was a true experience.
I highly recommend you to take up this tour on your first / second day in Mexico so you know what to expect for the rest of your trip!

This market tour was a highlight of our trip. The markets are enormous and overwhelming. We never could have done it on our own. We got to try so much food native to Mexico and it was all delicious! Ivan was an incredible guide. Very friendly and helpful it was clear he has been doing this awhile!
If you’re on the fence book it! You won’t regret it 😊

This walking Foodie tour was excellent from start to finish! Orson, our guide was awesome and incredibly knowledgeable about any topic we asked about. The food was overwhelmingly generous as were the beer and unlimited tequila shots! We saw 3 markets using local train and buses and there were only 6 of us on the tour. Orson was also a lot of fun and his English was spot on. This tour was cheap for what it contained.

This wasn’t the tour I would have chosen but it was the consensus from the group. And boy, am I glad I about it. This was so educational and fun. To walk through the markets and see locals whizzing their way through their daily lives so was exciting. The food options presented to us were authentic and delicious. I enjoyed every minute of the tour. Special shout outs to our incredible tour guides Ivan and Aremi, who were super knowledgeable and fun. I wish I could have taken them everywhere with us while in CDMX.

The best tour ever. The visit to the markets is incredible. The best tour to do if you want to explore the city!

What a fantastic day exploring Mexico City's vibrant markets! Our guide, Iván from Trippers.Mx, was absolutely outstanding. We spent four hours navigating La Merced, Mercado de San Juan, and Sonora markets like locals, using the subway and bus. The gastronomical journey was incredible, with amazing food at every stop. The day culminated in a wild and unforgettable mezcal tasting featuring exotic additions like scorpions and wasps. It was a truly immersive cultural experience and the best way to spend a day in the city. Highly recommend the tour and especially Iván!

This was the highlight of our trip, Aremy was the best tour guide ever! The tour is absolutely an incredible value with all three markets, food and mezcal tasting included. The mercados give a glimpse of the true Mexico experience, the mole was so good we had to bring some home. I highly recommend this experience and will book this again when I return!

Great experience overall. Guide was very nice and friendly. I think the tour can skip the 2nd market (religious one)

This is a do not miss tour. We usually do a food type tour in every city we travel to. Because of the reputation of street food in CDMX, we didn't do a street food tour. This Tour was the answer for us. Our guide Ivonne was so knowledgeable and personable, he made this tour so enjoyable. We were a tour group of only 4, so getting around was pretty easy. We rode the subway and bus with the guide leading us. The markets were VERY interesting and the food we tasted was all delicious. We didn't worry about food illness, as our guide assured us the stops we made were safe. The markets themselves are totally overwhelming, but we walked away with a really good understanding. I would Definitely, without hesitation recommend this tour. Our guide was just the best!!

Wonderful time visiting the markets we would have never otherwise been able to navigate alone. Ivan was a great host, took great care of safety and very kind.

This experience was beyond what I expected. The food was amazing, the information and history I learned was incredible and if I could rate this tour six stars, I would. My tour guide Ivan was very knowledgeable and I would highly recommend him for this tour and the many other tours that he offers.
cjmgoddess, Jul 2025
Orson was an amazing guide. He knew the in and outs of the markets and many of the vendors. He was prepared with spoons, hand sanitizer and everything needed for so many tastings. His knowledge of history was greatly appreciated. He should get 10 stars! Thank you Orson for the best tour of Mexico Cuidad!

Do not miss out on this tour. I have done market tours in Thailand, Seattle, Portland, Singapore, etc… and this was by far the best one. Dara was extremely fun and gave an unforgettable tour!
Anthony_D, Jun 2025
We had an amazing time with Ivan, he took us through three separate markets and made sure that we got to try everything that we were interested in. Ivan really personalized the experience to the group. He made sure to check in with us about any questions and had a lot of great stories and facts to share about the market. Highly recommend this tour with Ivan!
Garrett_O, Jun 2025
Our guide, Ivan, took us through the heart of multiple Mexico City markets. It was one of the best travel experiences I’ve ever had. Ivan, made us feel very comfortable during the entire tour. The experience was extremely engaging and unique. I would love to do it again with Ivan and see other places he is so fantastic. Ivan gave us travel tips, historical facts about Mexico City, a native’s perspective on Mexico City’s culture. We were able to experience the beauty of the city and people. Ivan was also able to adapt the trip to meet certain requests like stopping at a local tortilla factory within the heart of the food market as well as purchase some extra fruit I had never tried at another shop that he thinks has better fruit. Overall 10/10 thank you so much for the memorable experience Ivan!!!
Marc_V, Jun 2025
Dara was FANTASTIC! We entered into the belly of Merced market, a journey an outsider would normally not take; we felt totally at ease with our tour guide leading the way! Sonora market was an exciting event, a firsthand experience in the superstitious parallel world that is Mexico! Definitely recommend! We were a group of 5, with 4 being women, not once did we feel unsafe. Go check it out, you won't regret it!

We really enjoyed our tour through the markets. All of the food we sampled was delicious and the markets were fascinating. Our tour guides were fun, full of interesting information, and made us feel comfortable in the chaotic markets. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Mexico City.
CARRIE_G, Apr 2025
Our tour through the markets was led by Ivan and we had a wonderful time! He had all of the stops planned out and well organized. We got to try many different food items and received a souvenir along the way. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the markets as well as the products sold there. He made sure we got to view a good sampling of the various areas of these huge places - something that would have been extremely overwhelming without a guide. He was great about answering questions and helping us to make purchases along the way if we wanted. He was a lot of fun and made this tour a highlight of our trip. I highly recommend this tour.

I had an amazing time on the Eat and Explore Local Markets tour in Mexico City! Dara and Denisse were fantastic guides—so friendly, knowledgeable, and fun to be around. They introduced us to local vendors, explained the history and culture behind the markets, and made sure everything I ate was safe and delicious (I’m gluten-free and they were super thoughtful about it). The food was incredible and the whole experience felt authentic and personal. Highly recommend if you want to see the city like a local!
