If I could give this tour 100 stars I would. This was hands-down my favorite experience while visiting Mexico City. Luis picked us up at our hotel and took us to his uncles home where we saddled up and rode through town to the mountains. The views from the mountains were beautiful. Uncle Aurelio is a true charro and taught us how to handle the horse and walked alongside us the entire way. I don’t have too much experience riding horses, but I felt completely comfortable on the horse even with the language barrier between us.
We tied up the horses and walked to a beautiful spring side town where we learned how to make salsa and tortillas with the owners of a small café.
I thought I had great food inside the city however, the food at the café where we had the cooking class was the best tacos I had the entire trip.
I’m from Texas and I’ve had good Mexican food before, but this was out of this world. We’re still dreaming of the tortillas we had.
Everyone was so welcoming and kind. My husband and I were there celebrating our anniversary. Luis surprised us with a cake and a firework candle. It was so thoughtful and made for a truly special excursion.

If you’re looking for something truly unforgettable in Mexico City, this is it. CDMX Experience Tours and their guides Luis, Aurelio, and Camilo gave us what can only be described as a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Their “Ride Horses, Learn to Cook with Locals” experience isn’t just a tour. It’s an invitation into their home, their culture, their traditions, and their hearts.
From the moment we were picked up in La Condesa, everything was seamless. Luis was not only friendly and incredibly knowledgeable, he made us feel like we were part of his family. He didn’t just guide us. He shared his world with us.
Aurelio, Luis’ uncle and a true cowboy, was a wealth of knowledge and joy. His love for the land, the horses, the people, it all radiated from him. Thanks to him, we felt confident and safe on the trails even though we were beginners, and now we get to say we rode through the forests and hills of rural Mexico with a real charro. What an honor!
Camilo, our lead guide, kept everything moving smoothly and safely. He was attentive and made sure we were enjoying every moment without ever rushing us. His calm energy and clear communication added an extra layer of comfort to an already outstanding day.
The horseback riding itself was breathtaking, through villages, up mountain trails, across rivers, and then came the cooking. Learning to make salsas, tortillas, and more around a fire at a family cabin in the mountains? Pure magic. If you’re a food lover, this part alone is worth the trip. They even surprised me with a beautiful birthday cake from a local bakery that truly made my 50th birthday extra special. That level of thoughtfulness is rare.
As if the experience wasn’t already over the top, we left with some incredible and unexpected souvenirs. Luis gifted us his abuela’s salsa recipe which was poetry perfection in itself. We got to keep the cute clay shot cups we used for tasting tarantula tequila. Aurelio gave the birthday girl a personal cowboy hat, which felt beyond special. And we left with an open invitation to return and try their other unforgettable tours, which we absolutely plan to do.
If you’re even remotely considering one of their tours, we strongly recommend checking out their website to explore the full range of experiences they offer. It’s worth taking a look at everything they do you’ll find something meaningful no matter what you choose.
There are plenty of tours in Mexico, but CDMX Experience Tours is in a league of its own. They don’t just give you a tour. They gift you a memory. They under promise, over deliver, and leave you with full hearts (and full stomachs).
