Max was a great guide - we lucked out and ended up with a private tour! Hearing the stories and people behind the buildings made the city all the more enjoyable. The points of interest are pretty close together and Max made sure to find spots in the shade to stop and talk so it wasn’t too hot!

The tour was great. It’s not too much walking as the historic area is quite small, but nonetheless very interesting and packed with information. Ximena was wonderful as our tour guide - funny, knowledgeable and passionate. Also very helpful with local food recommendations. Highly recommend this tour and Ximena.

It was very good. We got a better feel for the history of the city and the region, as well as places to plan to visit for food, where to shop and not shop, art., etc. The history, culture and treatment of the Mayan people by the Mexican government was of particular interest.

This was the perfect tour to orient ourselves to the rich history of Mérida. Our guide Max was super friendly, knowledgeable and an excellent presenter. We had plenty of time at each stop to take pictures and get all our questions answered. We highly recommend the tour and Max!

Our guide Max was very knowledgeable and was able to answer all our questions. I only wish we could have gone into Casa Montejo so we wouldn’t have to go back on our own and overall felt the tour was a bit short. But I love history and could hear about it all day, so I think it’s a perfect tour for anyone who wants just a basic overview of Merida’a history. Highly recommend Max as a guide!

This was actually a free tour offered by the Tourist Center and we were charged for it. The tour was short and the guide spoke way to fast to understand what she was talking about.

My husband and I were the only two on this morning tour. Our guide Max was very knowledgeable and full of information, and we were able to have a lot of interaction with him. My husband knows quite a bit of Mexican history and was able to ask questions as we walked along. In the end Max gave us several restaurant recommendations and also helped me to locate a gallery that I had been looking for.
Max was a fun and friendly guide and we would recommend him highly.

The tour started on time and there were not too many people in the group. The guide, Louis, was very knowledgeable and was easy to understand as he spoke to the group. His choice of topics was interesting--varying from historical to contemporary, from religion to politics. The pacing was good. There were plenty of opportunities for questions from the group.

Our female guide was knowledgeable about so much history of the city. Little things I had seen became incredibly different once she explained them. She was so open about any questions we had. A nice relaxing way to start our visit to Merida. Slightly over 2hrs with a local who has good English so it was easy to understand. The tour is mostly concentrated around the main square area but we saw places we probably wouldn’t have thought we could enter because of police presence.. worth the time

Luis was a great tour guide and and his commentary was very interesting. We were very happy to have the tour in English. The two hour route was concentrated around the historic centre of Merida and the overall distance covered is not long. Luis gave us lots interesting facts about the Mayan culture, the conquering Spanish and even covered some important plants/trees along our route. At the end, Luis shared a QR code that gave recommendations for museums, restaurants and other points of interest. We pre-booked our date and paid for the tour through Viator but others paid/tipped at the end. I did find the website reviews confusing “free tour” versus “reserve a date and pay now”. It is our hope that Luis was well compensated by Viator.
