We had a wonderful food tour of Leon with Ira. It stopped raining just as we got to our first stop where we had a delicious aluminette The test of the stops will be a surprise! Ira was full of stories and histories of Leon, which enhanced our tour. It was a really helpful one to begin our trip to Leon.

Our guide, Ira, was very knowledgeable and friendly. The tour, however, we did not feel was good value for the money. We received very little food…. Around one macaron, one piece of chocolate, one marzipan candy, a piece of praline crisp (shared), one piece of pate en croute (split between five tour participants) and one charcuterie planche (also shared between five people) with one glass of wine per person. We left hungry, which has never been the case with any food tour we’ve been on.

I liked some of the historical overviews that we received. That being said, overall, it was Overpriced, haphazard, a little awkward & not good enough. Seemed like things weren’t planned out properly( the first shop declined to give us their chocolates), the guide wasn’t too confident, it was a little awkward as my group was the only one on the tour. Also, not sure why people are given desserts and sweets before the meal. Something to keep in mind.

Our original tour was cancelled due to illness and we were upgraded to another tour at the Les Halles Market. We had an impressive number of tastings and our guide Ilan was very knowledgeable about Lyon food culture. We enjoyed the experience!

The tour was ok but it started with desserts and worked our way to an appetizer with dinner not really included. The guide was friendly and nice but wasn’t as prepared as we would have hoped. It seemed the eating events were on the fly versus planned out ahead of time. Not really what we were hoping for, the highlight of the tour were the others we met from the US and Australia. They were amazing. Food not so much.

Tour Company will Cancel Due to Guide "Sickness" and Try Not to Refund

This tour was canceled at the last minute with the explanation that the guide was sick. According to other reviews over time, this is a pattern. Still waiting for information on if and how a refund will be processed. Suggest passing on this to avoid being scammed.

Unfortunately, our guide in Lyon has been sick for a while and we were hopeful that he would recovered sooner. So it is not a pattern, but medical and human issue that is lasting. We are sorry for that. Your refund and that of other clients that we had to cancel have been processed.

A ruined day for my family

This tour was canceled, but we were not informed in advance. We showed up to the meeting spot after receiving confirmation from Viator, but the guide did not arrive. We contacted the number listed and were told that the guide had an accident and so had to cancel. They acted surprised that we had not been informed, but it appears from the reviews that this may be a pattern. I suggest that Viator investigate this particular group and make sure this is not a fraudulent enterprise. Unfortunately, we had built our schedule around this event and had to figure out a new plan. Shame.

Good but short-changed

Making the almond tart from scratch was a learning experience, well taught. He concluded with it boxed and tied. Done. But - that we at the end of the second hour, and the course was for three. I had questions and interests I wished to pursue, but he was done -- boxed and tied, literally. Three stars for a good show, two stars missing for the hour he did not give us.

Tour was cancelled while we were driving to Lyon. It took us 2 hours to get there only to find out that they cancelled our tour. We were a group of 9 people spending over $1000 and they cancelled. At least they gave us a quick refund but our day was ruined.

Best way to see Lyon

Robin was fantastic. My friends and I felt like we got a true taste of Leon as well as all the sites that make the city charming, quaint and intriguing. We would do it again in a heartbeat and recommend our family to do it as well.

Be ready with an EMPTY STOMACH

If you think that this tour is a little pricey you are grossly mistaken. We thoroughly enjoyed ALL THE FOOD. Our guide started by telling us of the history of Lyon as well of the culture and specifics customs of the French from starting the day with a baguette to why pralines are pink... bugs lol. We visited non tourist places and we immersed in the culture and food. The sausage/ meat store owner is a riot and will leave you laughing as well as full of the best sausage, brioche, and lots of wine. I can’t say enough about our guide. He answered all our questions and gave us additional places to visit. Definitely ride the funicle to the top. At the end of the tour you will be in food coma which he solved with an aperitif that was lemon and lime. We have been on many tours in Europe and this one ranks up in the top 3... A definite 10 out of 10.

This tour is a great way to learn not just about Lyon food, but it's deep history as well. It ended up being just my husband and I on the tour, and we had a wonderful time stopping into the local shops for tastings and tidbits. If you're only going to do one tour while in Lyon, we highly suggest this one.

Walking food,wine and scenery tour

We did this the norning after the pedicab tour of old Lyon so we saw some things twice. But that is no disadvantage because the city is really nice to vist and to walk around. Our youngish male guide was great and we were only two couples so it was a very personal experience. We went to many places that if you did not know where they were you would never find them. The locales the wine and the food we tried were fantastic. Lyon is truly the Gourmet center of France. The guide and tour were highly recommendable.

Thoroughly enjoyed this food tour of old Lyon. Elise was very knowledgeable about both the history of old Lyon and its food traditions. The tour introduced us to local food and proprietors, as well as a skilled and traditional silk weaver whose work was beautiful. The tour was well paced and our dinner at the Bouchon was delicious. Would definitely recommend this tour.
