A Tasty Tour Through Vieux Lyon

Brian_M, Jan 2026
The experience took us to four stops in Vieux Lyon, each offering a taste of the city—from cheeses and cured meats to wine and a main dish. Our tour guide, Maya, was personable and knowledgeable, sharing helpful context about what we were trying and its significance to Lyon’s culinary culture. I’d highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a great introduction to Lyon’s cuisine.

Anna, the guide, really made the experience - she knew all the inside stories on the food of Lyon! The food was amazing and each selected place had their own specialty. We tried food that I would not normally try on my own and all were delicious. This experience does take a full 3 hours for the 5 stops. I highly recommend!

Highly recommend this Lyonnais food tour

Top Notch

Lynda_G, Oct 2025
A great combination of excellent food and historic context, this tour was one of the highlights of our 16-day trip to France. Anna, our guide, was superb....knowledgable, pleasant, totally engaging. Loved every moment of our time with her.

Don't recommend!

Lynne_B, Oct 2025
While the tour guide did a great job explaining historical sites and information about Lyon, the tour company was very disorganized. The tour guide was apologetic for all the mishaps but for the price of this tour, it was way too expensive for what the quality of food. 2 of our stops were not ready for us, one had no deserts for us. We had to stop at another bakery to pick up a similar treat. The dessert was 2 half chocolates and 1 small chocolate (so 2 small chocolates total). Seemed very small for $175/ person. Personally, I've been on other great food tours but I would not recommend this company although the guide was very good.

Great Lyon Sunset Food Tour with our guide Stéphanie

Ming_C, Sep 2025
We joined the Lyon Sunset Food Tour with 3 other people from USA. Our guide Stéphanie Charbit is great. She is very patient in answering our questions and explained well. The 6 (or 7?) types of cheese are delicious. The wine is good. The owner of the sausage shop is quite funny and told us about his journey that led him open his shop. The quenelle is tasty. And don’t forget the bread Stéphanie bought for us, it is very good.

Lyon has the best food!

judi_m, Sep 2025
Oscar was great! He knew the answer to all my questions and he was very nice. Loved the tour. I really enjoy learning about the city as we try the food. He handled a big group like a professional.

There 4 stops, cheese, then sausage, then seated with choice of one dish, then ice cream Very slow paced Guide was great but I thought there would be more variety

Evening Food Tour in Lyon Delivers only Disappointment - Don't be fooled by the overhyped description of a mediocre tour

William_M, Aug 2025
Our guide was truly excellent, but this is an overhyped tour that promises gastronomic delights but delivers only disappointment. None of the individual components of the tour lived up to the hype. "Meeting one of the most famous sommeliers in Lyon" is a joke. You get only one measly glass of wine on this tour, at the charcuterie stop, but get none with your main course unless you buy it yourself! The restaurant only had four quenelles ready for our party of 5. The restaurant hastily made another, but it arrived undercooked and looked awful. We expected to visit the best brioche bakery in Lyon, but it was shut when we arrived - the guide produced a brioche from his bag and we were expected to eat it outside instead. We therefore didn't get to sample the other sweets promised. Our last stop was supposed to be to sample a local liqueur in a bar, but instead we were offered a liqueur-flavoured ice cream from a street vendor. The tour description is a complete work of fiction - save your money and use it to discover the gastronomic of Lyon yourself.

Response from Host, Aug 2025

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re genuinely sorry to hear that the experience did not meet your expectations, though we must clarify that several points raised in your review do not accurately reflect the tour we offer or the events of the day. Our tours are designed with great care to highlight Lyon’s rich gastronomic heritage, and we work closely with respected local artisans and venues to provide an authentic and enjoyable experience. Regarding your specific comments: The experience with the sommelier is indeed usually provided. However, due to the seasonal holiday of our partners, who are artisans and local shop owners, so they can't be replaced and have to close during their holiday, we needed to find an alternative that was equivalent in quality of the products. The wine bar where you had wine, charcuterie and cheese is one of the most beloved places by people from Lyon and even if there wasn't a person specifically for you to explain the wine you were drinking, the quality of the products can't really be questioned. Wine with the main course is not included in the tour package, and this is clearly stated in the description. Guests are welcome to purchase additional drinks at their own discretion. The issue with the quenelles was indeed an unfortunate one, and we sincerely apologize that one portion had to be prepared last-minute. This was a rare and unexpected situation, and we understand your disappointment. The bakery stop had to be adapted due to an unforeseen closure, which we regret. However, our guide provided fresh brioche from the same establishment, maintaining continuity with the intended experience. The sweet treats and liqueur sampling were also adapted slightly on this occasion, due to the seasonal closing period of our partners, being in August. While substitutions were made, they were carefully chosen to reflect the same local flavors and quality. We always strive to provide the best possible experience, and when changes must be made due to circumstances beyond our control, our guides do their utmost to ensure guests still enjoy an excellent and memorable outing. Many of the elements you described as "missing" were in fact present, though perhaps not in the exact form you expected. We respect your opinion, and we're sorry you left disappointed. However, it's important for future guests to know that the tour is far from the "fiction" described, and we encourage travelers to read the many positive reviews that reflect the care, quality, and authenticity we offer every day.

The Intersection of History and Food

Shari_P, Jul 2025
It was as much about the history of Lyon as it was about the food. Our guide did a great job of showing us the interconnected nature of history and food.

This tour is AMAZING- you get to try some very delicious dishes and learn about the food culture in Lyon. Expect to be surprised. I will say there was only one dish that my husband and I did not care for...not a huge deal because we ate plenty of other yummy things on the tour...so come hungry!

Great food tour! Delicious and Filling!!

We met up with our guide Elizabet, and she showed us all around Vieux Lyon, with really excellent stops to sample everything yummy and original that Lyon had to offer. Lots of back stories and tips to make it super enjoyable. Awesome food choices, and some even to take back with us. The group was small and really fun. I enjoyed everything about this tour, and would do it again!
