Despite my having lived in Japan for three years in the 1960s, I learned more about the Japanese tea ceremony in the hour than I had after previously Kearny attending a couple of them during my time living in Japan. Also, my daughter-in-law was thrilled by the experience because she is an avid green tea and matcha drinker. She too came away with additional information about the topic which has enhanced her subsequent enjoyment of green tea in all its forms.

This was a really nice and special experience. You could really feel like you were part of that house and family
Absolutely lovely, authentic feeling experience. With an English translator and a professor of the tea ceremony, who has been doing it for more than 40 years. Very welcoming.
A thoughtful and intimate traditional tea ceremony. The tea professor was so knowledgeable, and the translator really helped to include us in every aspect of the experience. A great option if you're looking for a quieter version of this classic Kyoto experience.
Simple with honor. Excellent presentation, tea & instruction. Lovely sweet with the tea service. Difficult location. Difficult stairs (would not have booked if knew this). Very delicious restaurant about four blocks away.
Very authentic and memorable experience in a traditional environment. The host was clearly very knowledgeable and experienced in her craft
This was a great experience by the tea master! The setting was beautiful and we got to learn how to make our own tea!
We never realized the precision that entails a tea ceremony. It was very interesting. Sadly, we were unable to sit in the preferred position for the time allowed, but were made to feel comfortable and really enjoyed the ceremony.

The location was a bit difficult to find and not near Gion. But the experience was informative and enjoyable. They were very accommodating to my husband, who can no longer sit on the floor and made him feel welcome and included. We enjoyed tasting and making matcha, although agreed we need more practice as ours didn’t taste as good as the tea master’s. The assistant spoke very quickly and it was somewhat difficult to understand her.
Tea ceremony was held in a small house in a quiet, residential neighborhood area. It can be tricky to find so try to leave early to arrive on time.
It was a nice experience to learn aspects of tea making and local customs. Would highly recommend doing at least once.
A gracious host and a wonderful hour learning this beautiful art of tea ceremony. The host was a delight and the English interpreter helped us to really enjoy the cere
Nice introduction to the Japanese tea ceremony. The tea master was very nice and the translator provided a lot of helpful context. Both answered all our questions. Overall a good time.
Great experience, very nice opportunity to get into the culture. Read about what the tea ceremony is beforehand (it is in the tour description) to enjoy it more.
Relaxed and informative demonstration, with an English translation. Easy to find using the local bus from the train
What a wonderful experience!! The host and interpreter were so warm and friendly. There was also so much history involved that I felt was critical. Further to this, they taught us the proper way for making the tea. I felt so relaxed and enlightened afterwards.
Thank you so much for a fantastic afternoon!!!!
My fiance and I wanted to see and understand what went into the traditional Japanese tea ceremony. It was an enlightening experience where we were able to partake in some of the prepared morsels and matcha tea that we were able to make ourselves
The traditional tea ceremony was a neat experience. It was a great opportunity to get an understanding of a part of the Japanese culture that isn’t mainstream as it once was. The women were so kind and welcoming.
The experience was great, Tea Master is absolutely amazing, as well as the assistants.
Several questions were answred after the demo and the hands-on exercise

I loved the experience from start to finish, both the tea master and her translator were very sweet, warm and welcoming. I travelled with my young daughter who loves Japanese culture and who was very happy with the experience too.
One thing I will say to people thinking about booking this experience, it is quite ‘out of the way’. I would not let this deter you because the experience is amazing, but I would recommend taking the subway to the nearest station (maps will be more than good enough to get you there) and getting a taxi / Uber from the station (it’s cheap from there, about 1,000Y which works out at about £5 GBP).
They were very kind and our entire party enjoyed the experience thoroughly. The sweets were delicious too
Such a wonderful experience!! Matcha tea ceremony with a tea master following all the traditional steps. Very kind and professional staff with beautiful Kimonos. Took great pictures and love it!
Had an amazing time with the tea ceremony. The host is very graceful and kind. Explained everything in detail and was patient in teaching us how to do it. The tea was delicious too! Highly recommend if you are a matcha fan.
Shiun An's tea ceremony was interesting and informative. We enjoyed arriving to a quiet neighborhood and a warm welcome.
Wonderful, serene experience. I was the only guest on my Tea ceremony and it was wonderful, a time to sit still and experience the beauty. I got a great explanation of the history and the traditional customs surrounding the ceremony in English. I would recommend this to anyone interested in Japanese culture while in Kyoto. Just lovely.
Extremely professional, very relaxing, quiet location in the north suburbs of Kyoto but easy to find with Google Maps and public buses. Complimentary traditional delicacy provided as well as socks for the Japanese tatami floor.
I absolutely loved tbis experience. I didn't want to leave Japan without doing a tea ceremony, but I also did not want to do something inauthentic or just made for mass tourism. This was truly a special experience and our Sensei had 20 years of experience. Her matcha was so delicious in comparison to thw one I made. I loved listening to the history of matcha and especially learning from a true sensei. Thank you for also providing a translator which made the experience even more enriching. A fabulous experience all around. Arigato gozaimasu.
Amazing tea ceremony experience, willing to come back next time again. The translator was very precise and explained all the little details.
This was a nice way to learn about the Japanese tea ceremony and traditions while also learning how to properly make matcha tea. Very accommodating host.
Lovely and authentic! Very intimate and everyone was extremely kind - very well priced but included great amenities :) would recommend to anyone!!
Our hostess was very friendly and professional. We learnt how to make our own matcha tea! We really enjoyed it as a small group. Highly recommend it!
