What To Expect
Enjoy the breathtaking views (and breathtaking walk) out on the Glacier Skywalk, a glass-bottomed walkway situated 1,000 feet above the valley below. This unique viewing platform is the perfect spot to take your Alberta visit to new heights with incredible views and fascinating on-site exhibits.
Travel on your own along the Icefields Parkway – one of the most stunning highways in the world, with views of more than 100 glaciers and other alpine landscapes, before arriving at the Columbia Icefield Glacier Discovery Centre, where your Glacier Skywalk experience begins. Board your coach for the quick five-minute transfer to the Glacier Skywalk, after which you’ll have plenty of time to explore the site at your leisure. It’s recommended you allow at least 45 minutes, though you’re free to stay at the site until closing time, when the last coach returns to the Columbia Icefield Discovery Centre.
Step out onto this incredible glass-bottomed viewing platform (called Discovery Vista) feeling your heart pump as you take in the amazing views of the nearby glacial valleys and snow-capped peaks of the Canadian Rockies. If you’re looking for more to do while on-site, check out the Discovery Trail, offering interpretive displays on the region’s geology, biology, ecology and Aboriginal history, plus a walk along a cliff-edge boardwalk with great views of the valley.
For full details on the two different sections of the Glacier Skywalk, please read the itinerary details below.

Stay away from this tourist trap.
The transfer to the icefield is an absolute crap show. Busy, crowded, unorganized. Pack your patience.

We had Beautiful clear views. I loved being able to look down through the glass. Very cool as long as you are not scared of heights. Oterwise dont look down. Even saw some mountain goats when I looked down below me. And a cute baby one.

Ridiculous amount of people on the skywalk. I have to consider myself a foreigner from the US, but I know how to self regulate my behavior in public. Other nations whether from Canada or Asia have no such mechanism. Pushing, shoving, no respect for others wanting to take pictures. Butting in line. There is no regulating the number of people on the bridge, like there is at the Grand Canyon. Kids jumping around, posers taking up too much space. I will tell anyone interested to do this to enter at your own discretion

We arrived at the gate at 1:18pm after getting off the glacier bus and running to the check in gate. We were told we were too late and couldn’t board the bus to the skywalk. We were instructed to go back to the ticket booth and reserve another time. The line was 50+ people long. Others in line sad we should have been told to take a bus from the glacier directly to the SKUs. None of this was told to us. We were not able to get replacement reservations as the only times available were after our tour left the area. I am requesting a full refund and will be pursuing this through my bank as well.

Great trip on the icefield - Andy our on ice driver was excellent and came all the way from Yorkshire England just to drive us

Very informative and a fun experience. We received information from the bus driver as well as tour guides. Appreciated that there was no add on costs.

Great spot… Dallas was very informative. Glad we did the 11:15 booking. It got very busy as we were leaving
mary_m, Jun 2026
Fabulous experience. All well organised and we booked an early slot and there were only four of us on the Skywalk. We could spend as long as we wanted there.

Neesh and Calla did an outstanding job. Neesh’s narration, knowledge and passion comes through. If I could give them a 10 star I would

Must see. Excellent free tour guide. Crazy looking down and being able to see clouds passing underneath your feet.

Nice experience, but it was crowded, lot of people and the weather was cloudy so we did not get the most out of it.

It was fun activity. The views were breathtaking. We enjoyed the viewpoint. Too crowded at the outlook and bus wait was too long.
Richard_P, Aug 2025

Beautiful views! We enjoyed the experience despite cloudy weather. Good coffee and hot chocolate at the top.
Jordan_D, Jul 2025
Very worth the cost and the shuttle/bus ride from the main Columbia Icefields building. I would do it again!
Pam_W, Oct 2024
It was somewhat interesting; however I expected to see more of the glacier. The skywalk on the glass was cool.

Super neat, exciting activity! The whole experience was totally worth it! The Icefield Center building itself is top notch with amenities and really nice informative exhibits. The shuttle service to the Skywalk was very prompt and well run. Plenty of time to experience the Skywalk as there’s no time limit to experience it. Take your time and enjoy the views! After the Skywalk, ride the shuttle down and cross the street to experience the toe of the Athabasca glacier. Well worth the experience. It’s going away fast so go get a good look up close!

A little less expensive to buy ahead of time rather than at the Discovery Center. We were 15 mins late for our scheduled time and could easily board bus leaving in the next 15 mins (in mid September)

Staff working there are amazing very nice guys

Excellent activity with amazing views! Reservations were easy to make online and the bus was on schedule.

We were unable to go on this excursion due to the wildfires. We had to rebook hotels out of Jasper and Sunwapta areas. We could not get a refund. Very disappointed.
Peggy_W, Aug 2024
We thought we had bought tickets that included the Skywalk and the glacier experience! We got on the bus to the Skywalk and loved it but went to the bus thinking we were going on to the Columbia Icefields but was taken back to the main building and couldn’t even add the glacier paying the difference! We were so frustrated spending an hour on the phone with you! We finally gave up and rather than not see the glacier we paid the whole amount going a second time to the Skywalk! We were mad we couldn’t even pay the difference and see it all! Frustrating! I can’t recommend Viator! You guys screwed up our reservations and we will not be using Viator to make plans again. They were not at all clear of what we were purchasing! You need to work on that!!!!!!

The best experience we had in the Rockies
There's nothing more amazing to be able to witness earth's creation in such a personal way. We are honoured. The glacier is definitely more dynamic than it looks and we have learnt so much. Thank you.

My eldest daughter is shaking after walking on the glass but we are all happy and enjoy the scenes..
Robert_N, Jul 2024
We truly enjoyed visiting the Icefield Skywalk. It was a once in a lifetime experience. Our bus driver was very knowledgeable about the history behind the glaciers and our ride was very comfortable. An added bonus was the mountain goats we saw after we boarded for our trip back to the center. It was great!
Heather_A, Jun 2024
We enjoyed the entire experience, the staff were knowledgeable and pleasant. It was all very organized, at the same time you were able to spend the viewing at your leisure.
Ashley_G, May 2024
We got there 5 minutes before and the bus had already left. That was the last one of the day. There is no refunds either.
Sanne_N, Oct 2023
Very nice to have this booked in advance. I really liked the infographics in the boardwalk. The skywalk itself is a little bit smaller than expected, but still very cool.
Syed_H, Sep 2023
Views from the skywalk. They allowed us as much time as needed. We were not rushed. The tour buses were running every 15 minutes.
