A wonderful experience

The entire crew was very friendly and gave us a warm welcome on board. They were very well organized and extremely helpful. The rooms were very comfortable and clean. The food was outstanding. There was a breakfast buffet, and in the evenings, a varied five-course menu was served. The program was very diverse: We visited many caves, went canoeing, and took a boat trip through the beautiful scenery of Halong Bay, where we also enjoyed a delicious lunch. We visited a pearl farm and were taken through a cave in a bamboo boat, where we even saw some monkeys. We stayed for three days, which was a great decision.

Halong Bay is beautiful....

Halong Bay is beautiful. The three-day cruise allows you to see part of the bay that day trippers don’t get to see. The staff was top notch. The buffet meals were very good. The more formal plates dinners were not. The beds are hard (which I like). The linens were good quality. The balcony was not comfortable. It’s tiny and basically has 2 barstools for seating. Not somewhere I want to sit. There was a bad issue with mosquitos in my cabin which the staff did their best to address. I believe they are coming in through cracks in the bathroom window. As a partially disabled person it was difficult to transfer to the other boats but the crews were gracious and assisted me which I appreciated.

We truly understand that your holiday is very important, and we are genuinely sorry that the bad weather affected some parts of your trip. As we shared during your tour, the change in the itinerary was due to unpredictable weather conditions and safety regulations issued by local authorities. Safety is always our top priority — for you and for all passengers — and sometimes the weather in Ha Long Bay can change suddenly, especially during the storm season. In those cases, we must adjust or cancel certain outdoor activities to make sure every guest remains safe. Even with this limitation, your cruise was still able to visit almost all the main destinations listed in our itinerary, and you enjoyed 2.5 days out of the 3-day-2-night program. Only one activity on the final half-day had to be canceled due to bad weather. To be fair and transparent, we issued a 20% refund for the missed portion of the trip — which exactly follows our company’s policy for weather-related cases. This policy ensures that all guests are treated equally and fairly based on the actual services received. We completely understand that you had hoped for a larger refund, but since you participated in nearly all of the scheduled activities and received almost the full experience, a 50% refund would not correctly reflect the trip that was provided. We want to assure you — and future guests — that our team always does our very best to care for every traveler, especially in difficult weather situations. We keep constant communication, update guests about the weather forecast, and coordinate closely with the port authorities to make the safest and most enjoyable plan possible. We truly value your feedback, as it helps us keep improving our service. However, we kindly believe that a 1-star review may not reflect the real effort, hospitality, and service quality that we provided throughout your journey. Our crew worked very hard to ensure that all guests could still have a memorable and comfortable time on board despite the weather challenges. Relaxing retreat with amazing scenery

We loved our trip to Ha Long Bay! The boat was very comfortable and our room was gorgeous with a balcony and tub bath. The staff was extremely attentive to our every need. The food was very good, a mix of buffet style for lunch and breakfast and then plated meal for dinner. You do have to pay extra for any drinks you want. The excursions are great, including swimming, kayaking, and bicycle riding. I would definitely recommend the two nights stay because you get to do more activities and the one night seemed very rushed.

Highly recommend the 2-night experience

We did not get what we thought we bought based on the photos and itinerary. We wanted to see floating village and cycle but that was not on our itinerary. We had a small room with tint balcony. After querying this, it was our own error as we ticked the Ha Long Bay option and not Lan Ha Bay. However, the staff were wonderful and even upgraded our room for the second night. The onboard team were excellent and guides were wonderful. All were very attentive and friendly and really cared that we were having a wonderful time. The Athena cruise line was traditional and very nice. We had two cruise directors as there was a chang-over occurring. Tim was wonderful and very knowledgeable. We then had his assistant, Michael, who was hoping to step into the role permanently some day. Michael too waa so helpful and wonderful - as a manager of a team myself, I would definitely be thinking about getting Michael into the senior role permanently soon!! We had a day boat via another company for day 2. This was well organised but spoilt by one entitled Indian group who stood their children on the food tables in filthy shoes, changed nappies and left them lying over the boat and played Indian music loud while people were trying to relax on the day boat or beach. Thankfully the day boat staff did manage the situation as best they could. We were both so pleased with the tour in the end. We were shocked at how much rubbish floated in Ha Long Bay. We caught up with many Aussies and Europeans who were all disappointed with what we saw floating by and washed up on the beaches - definitely not what the adverts show!

The boat, food and staff were all great. Only downsides are the drinks are expensive (relative to Vietnam prices) and sadly there is a lot of garbage floating in the Halong Bay waters (but this has nothing to do with the cruise).

Bring elastic waist pants haha

This was an incredible experience. The pictures do not do ha long and bai tu long bays justice. We ended up on the Signature Cruise luxury junk. Our cruise manager Andy was amazing. The room was gorgeous, and the bed was comfy. The hot water in the bathroom gets very hot pretty much instantly. Be careful not to burn yourself. The food was so good. We opted for the 2 night option, which I highly recommend. When we saw people for the 1 night packing up, it felt like we had just got there. Downside of 2 night is all of the food. Lunch and dinner were both many courses. It was all delicious, but we were so stuffed by the end. Maybe just pace yourselves better than we did haha.

Great cruise, but expect to pay more for ground transport from Hanoi to cruise site than what has been advertised.

The cruise was great and enjoyable. However, there was a bit of misinformation regarding the ground transport from and to Hanoi. Originally we were suppose to pay $20 as shown on booking details for round trip and then in my chat to the tour operator later, this price went up to $25. However I was contacted on Whatsapp a day before our cruise was to being, and after a lot of back and forth, I was charged $135 for four us to be picked up from our hotel in Hanoi and then be brought back to Hanoi and then an additional $18 to be taken to the airport which was the only part which was consistent with the information provided initially. Except the extra amounts which we did not expect to pay, the cruise was very enjoyable.

Very nice staff very accommodating and friendly. Room was as expected. Balcony was not as pictured on the website so we were disappointed. Was not ready for the early mornings which is mainly to accommodate people cruising 1 night vs 2 and not necessary to get up that early and sit around on the day boat while the main boat drops off customers and picks up new ones to keep the boat full. Our day cruise manager Megan was excellent however and provided information which was useful and interesting. They do serve gourmet meals which we were surprised about.

From the moment we were picked up from our hotel the whole experience was seamless. The tour manager was superb and extremely helpful as were all the staff on the boat. We couldn’t believe the level of luxury we had on this cruise. We were fortunate enough to be on the Athena Cruise and everything was seriously top notch. Excellent service from staff, superb food and a great itinerary. Cabins were spacious, clean and comfortable. It’s hard to believe until you’re in Ha Long Bay, but the Athena Cruise ship definitely stood out as far more luxurious and modern than the other boats. I would certainly book again.

We would not recommend the Aquamarine cruise ship. It is a tired old ship, we made the reservations based on glowing reviews on Travel Advisor. We did not find out which tour operator or ship we will be on till the night before. I reviewed Aquamarine reviews, they were mixed, raised concerns, was assured they have excellent reviews. Our experience was opposite. We recommend that you book directly with the cruise ship operator after careful review.

Would highly recommend taking the 2 night cruise. Much better not to rush the trip and enjoy a full day out in the bay. The staff in the cruise were amazing and really treat you like royalty. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The food was amazing. The day tours around Halong Bay and kyacking and seeing the caves were great.. The only thing we didn't like was the mattress was very firm
