Lots more than just a food tour! Diego was able to give us the history of the city and give suggestions on places to go while we were there. He had pictures of what Guadalajara looked like in the past vs. what it looked like now. The food was wonderful and they were able to accommodate different food preferences even me being a vegetarian.

Barbacoa

Jalisco's barbacoa is made from beef brisket, seasoned, steam cooked until tender and succulent, then used as filling for tacos or tortas with salsa.

A marbled cut of pork braised or simmered with seasonings until tender. Then roasted to make it crisp and used as filling for tacos or tortas.

Often served in celebrations or as a hangover cure, birria is a sweet, sour, slightly spicy, and utterly savory goat stew.

This food tour was a highlight of my time in Guadalajara. Everything was well organized and authentic, and the food was outstanding from start to finish. We visited local spots I never would have found on my own and learned so much about the city’s food and culture along the way. Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly passionate about Guadalajara. The pacing was perfect and we were very well fed. I loved that the tour supports small, local businesses. Highly recommend this tour for anyone visiting Guadalajara. A must do experience.

Diego was super awesome! He really knew what he was talking about and doing and you could tell he had built personal relationships with everyone at the market. The food was amazing too. It really is a worthwhile experience and a MUST do when you’re in Guadalajara out of all the street food tours. He’s super personable and makes you feel like a close friend and you know it’s genuine. We’re so grateful and so glad we booked this experience. If you’re doubting it, don’t. Just book. He has such a passion for it all and the fact he grew up around all of the people there was a plus. Thank you Diego! Also… I know the birria is optional but you have to do it. I’m not a fan of goat but they really do such a great job of seasoning and treating their meat.

I had an amazing time on this tour in Guadalajara! Diego is incredibly knowledgeable and shared so much interesting history about each site we visited. He gave us plenty of time to explore and shop, and also took us to some fantastic local spots to try delicious food. The tacos de barbacoa were unforgettable! The tour was well-organized and felt very personalized. Diego offers other tours too—honestly, I wish I had booked all my tours with him. Highly recommend!

We had a fantastic time with Diego on this tour! He met us at our hotel and took us to the San Juan de Dios market. Diego has a deep love for Guadalajara and shared a lot of history and local color. The market is amazing — huge, colorful, and bustling, with all kinds of food and merchandise. We ate some of the most delicious food! The barbacoa tacos and torta ahogada were both wonderful, so tasty and made with love by some of the best vendors in the market. Diego also helped us shop for a few items we wanted, like boots and Christmas ornaments. His knowledge of the market, both its history and the vendors, must be unparalleled. We walked to lunch after the market and had a wonderful time eating birria and a local restaurant, capping off a great tour. We would highly recommend this tour with Diego!

We had a great time with our tour guide Diego. He was very knowledgeable and prepared as he took us on this food tour. It wasn’t only the food. He explained to us about the history and culture of the area. We got to try fruit that he was familiar with, that has been cultivated in Mexico, Between 5000-6000 years. We met up with some friends at a wedding after our tour the following day and we had so many great facts from our food tour that people that live in Mexico other life didn’t even know. Diego was very personable gave us our space to shop and as we went through the food tour, He was very attentive to us. I would even go as far as saying that if I come back with family, I would take the tour with them again if it’s with Diego.

Diego was an amazing tour guide! There is no better way to learn about a different culture than through their food. Diego took us to several family-run locations to try different foods - and they were all delicious! In between eating, we were able to see various historical and cultural sights and Diego had extensive knowledge of the area and history that he shared with us. The mix of food and history was exactly what we were looking for and we would recommend this to everyone!

Diego was such a gem. He was so knowledgeable and gave great insight into the history and culture of Guadalajara. He was able to customize our tour, so we could see key sights as well as have some local cuisine. There’s lots of walking, but easy. Nothing steep or challenging terrain. Walking shoes, sun protection, and water is recommended. Diego also sent us a list of restaurants and bars based on our tastes for Tequila, Guadalajara, and Tlaquepaque. He was a great resource even after the tour. He has several tour options in Jalisco, and I would highly recommend. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with him.

Diego might be the only game in town, but his tour would also be excellent in a more competitive tourism market like NYC or Paris. As it was, I felt like I had a local friend with encyclopedic knowledge of the Mercado Libertad show me around the most delicious eateries of his hometown. I speak okay Spanish but get SO NERVOUS at the market stalls with no menus where everybody talks super fast--but Diego made me feel at home. A true highlight of my trip--will be back next time!
