Guadalajara History tour

Jackie_A, Feb 2026
Mostly standing, no headsets or microphones, something could have been substituted for closed government building. Good info on Orozco murals.

Response from Host, Feb 2026

Hi Jackie. I really appreciate your feedback; we'll take it seriously. Yes, indeed, most of the tour is on foot and doesn't include any audio devices; just the guide's voice and expertise. There's a 15-20 minute break at Café Degollado to use the restroom, hydrate, and rest your feet. As for the government buildings, unfortunately, they are subject to availability as determined by local authorities. Preparations are underway for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is why they remain closed. That is why access to the CABAÑAS MUSEUM is included, along with appreciation for the murals of Orozco, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Great Tour Experience

Having been on walking...

Christine_F, Nov 2025
Having been on walking tours in various countries, my husband and I agree that Fernando's tour was one of the best. Thank goodness the tour was not a boring review of one after another church but rather a smattering of religious, political and artistic sites. Fernando is smart, well-informed and passionate. He did not whitewash some unpleasant realities such as protestors outside government buildings yet his explanations could not be interpreted as one-sided. We particularly enjoyed the way he introduced the Orozco murals by allowing us to first experience before instructing. My only suggestion is that he make an effort to be more recognizable for the meetup- perhaps with a logo on his backpack/shirt/ hat.

Excellent walk through history and Art.

Liliana_M, Nov 2025
Our tour guide, Fernando, was en excellent tour guide. He was very professional and very knowledgeable. We bagan at the main plaza in front of the catedral of Guadalajara and Government palace. He explained the history of the founding of Guadalajara's city, and how it was built. We then went to the cathedral and toured inside followed by a walk to the DeGollado Theater to admite the architecture and a bit of rest. We then proceeded through the Hospice Cabañas for the Murals from Orozco, one of the most important artists from Guadalajara. He gave very informative insight into Orozco’s murals. It’s impressive. Overall, I highly recommend this tour.

Perfect intro to Guadalajara’s history and culture

Alicia_S, Oct 2025
This was a great tour and a perfect introduction to Guadalajara’s history and culture. Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and shared a lot of interesting context about the city’s landmarks. I’d highly recommend it for anyone visiting for the first time or looking to understand more about Guadalajara’s past.

Nice, Compact Walking Tour yet very Informative!

Ricardo_M, Oct 2025
Fernando was an excellent tour guide. He was punctual and was in contact communication leading up to our meeting time. Tour did not feel rushed at all. Fernando spent ample time in each location going in depth with information. Came out of the tour definitely knowing more about Guadalajara's history than going in!

Very Interesting and Informative Tour

A Memorable Tour with an Exceptional Guide!

Remedios_N, Aug 2025
My sister and I had a truly wonderful time on this tour, and Fernando was an absolute highlight of the experience. He is incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and kind, making the entire day both enjoyable and enriching. There is so much to see and learn on this tour—from fascinating architecture to vibrant murals—and Fernando brought each stop to life with his insights. I also had the chance to try Tejuino for the first time, which I personally loved! I highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to explore and understand the local culture more deeply. I’m so grateful to have met Fernando and to have shared this memorable experience with such an exceptional guide.

Much to Learn About Guadalajara

Blanca_H, Jul 2025
We started right on time at the kiosk. Fernando was great at providing detailed accounts at every stop we made. Since it was just me, we had lots of conversations about the different historical events of Guadalajara and México. He provided interesting insights specially at the Museo Cabañas. He walked me to the mercado and provided a great recommendation for the best birria there. Highly recommend him as a guide. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about local history and sharing it with others.

Incredible Guide, Even Better Experience

Stephen_L, Jul 2025
Fernando was an exceptional tour guide—truly one of the best we’ve had. His deep knowledge and passion for Guadalajara’s culture, history, and culinary traditions brought the city to life in unforgettable ways. His storytelling, especially at the Museo Cabañas while explaining José Clemente Orozco’s murals, left a lasting impression on both of us. Fernando also introduced us to Tejuino and guided us to some of the best tortas ahogadas in the city’s bustling market center. It was a hands-down phenomenal experience that my wife and I will never forget. Highly recommend!

Very informative tour.

ScooterR, Jun 2025
Fernando was a great your guide. He was patient with with us. We really enjoyed the murals and the story behind them.

History, Architecture and Frescos, O MY! LOVED IT!

Sonia_G, May 2025
Fernando, does an amazing job at reviewing each spot and telling the reason it is important to the history of Guadalajara, the state of Jalisco, and how the Americas were conquered. If you enjoy history and architecture this tour is definitely for you. Now if you love art, don't miss out on your chance to see the Hospicio Cabañas that showcases Orozco murals. I appreciated the time to view and develop my own personal thoughts on the murals, and then getting to hear more of the understanding behind each of the frescos. Remember this is a live city, with history being made daily, so if something doesn't look how you expect try to understand the reasons behind the actions taken. I know there were comments made about graffiti, but I am glad to see the movements for equality and the voices being given to the voiceless, and Fernando is open to acknowledge the protests and the reasoning for it in a non-biased way.

Highly Recommend!

Janae_C, May 2025
We had a wonderful experience with Fernando. He was super knowledgable, and also courteous. He made sure we stayed in the shade and take breaks when possible. Highly recommend this tour!

See Guadalajara with the eyes of a local

Leslie_B, Mar 2025
Fernando combines his deep knowledge of history and sociology with his passion for everything Guadalajara to make this tour unforgettable. You're not just getting the bullet points, Fernando gives you all of the context and background to bring what you're seeing alive. Fernando is also very friendly and charismatic, happy to share suggestions for great restaurants and other experiences in Guadalajara. I've taken many walking tours all over the world, but this was easily my favourite.
