Marina was an amazing guide for this experience. We were afraid as first time costumers to book this experience online but it far exceeded our expectations. Exceptional value for the price - we accessed food options that would likely have been too difficult for tourists to find on their own. Marina was good company and tailored the tour to our preferences and abilities as we are very active and eat a lot 😀

Excellent tour! Yummy food and fun tour guide. Just enough history to get context. Guide explained everything we were about to eat. Also showed care and concern for food allergy.

This food tour of Genoa was excellent! Lots of variety! Serena was an excellent guide who showed us so much about the history and food of the area and also showed us other places to grab additional treats and things to take home. I would do this again without hesitation.

We enjoyed food spots near the port, including seafood, pesto, panare and other treats. It was a walk from the port but do-able and worth it.

It was hard to figure out where to meet our guide as the instructions guided us to a huge open area with lots of restaurants and activities going on but no specific instructions on where to meet. We were really disappointed in the amount of food we were able to taste. Since Genea is knows for pesto and foccachia, I assumed that we would get to taste several versions of each. We did not. We started off with a nice big paper cone of fried fish or veggies, then one small piece of foccachia with pesto on it, two small pieces of different breads, a delicious gelato-like coffee treat and a cup of coffee. I would have expected at least one more version each of pesto (maybe with pasta?) and more foccachia, as it was seen everywhere with all sorts of wonderful looking toppings on it.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience.
We’re sorry to hear that meeting the guide was not straightforward. We truly appreciate this feedback and will work on making the meeting point instructions clearer and more precise to avoid any confusion in the future.
Regarding the tour, we would like to point out that you booked a street food tour, and both the itinerary and the tastings included are described in advance. The experience is designed to offer a variety of authentic local flavors rather than multiple versions of the same product.
That said, we do value your comments, as they help us improve and consider possible enhancements to the experience.
We hope to have the chance to welcome you again in the future!

Valentina was awesome! The food stops were awesome. I can away with a great appreciation for Genoa food and culture. I highly recommend this tour

Valentina was an excellent guide - friendly and knowledgeable. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour! Wonderful to try so many local foods and drink!

We were looking forward to a genuine food tour, but unfortunately this experience did not meet our expectations. The amount of food provided was very small and the stops did not feel like true restaurant experiences.
We started with a cone of fried fish, which was good, although several people in the group did not eat fish. Next was a very small taste of pesto that was quite good, but again the portion was tiny. The pizza stop was particularly disappointing — two unusual types of pizza that were reheated in a microwave by the owner, which felt almost sacrilegious in Italy.
The highlight of the tour was the gelato, which we truly enjoyed, followed by an espresso stop where we were shown how to drink it properly.
Much of the tour involved walking around in circles while the guide talked about architecture and history rather than food. It felt more like a historical walking tour than a culinary experience. The guide also appeared to be reading from a script and struggled at times with English, which made the explanations less engaging.
We have done other food tours where you visit restaurants, sit down, see how the food is prepared, and enjoy more generous tastings. This tour was quite different and left us disappointed.
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Thank you for your feedback.
We would like to clarify that the experience you booked is a street food tour, which is intentionally designed around small tastings of local specialties enjoyed on the go, rather than full meals or extended sit-down restaurant visits. This format reflects how street food is traditionally experienced in Genoa.
The portions and stops are planned to offer a variety of typical flavors across different locations, rather than large individual servings. For this reason, the structure may differ from other food tours focused on full-service dining.
That said, we take note of your comments regarding specific stops, including the pizza, and will review them with our partners.
We’re pleased to hear you enjoyed the gelato, pesto, and espresso experiences, which are key elements of the local food culture.
Finally, regarding the balance between food and historical context, the tour includes cultural insights as part of the experience, and we will continue working to ensure this balance is clear in how the tour is presented.
Thank you again for your feedback.

Serena was an excellent guide with a wealth of knowledge about the city. The food was delicious and plentiful!
Connie_K, Feb 2026
Marina was a great tour guide, very knowledgeable and kind! Highly recommend! The foccia and gelato were our favorites.
Jake_A, Jan 2026
Valentina was wonderful and should get a raise! Once you meet up under the Neptune Galleon ship, you walk around the narrow streets of Genoa and sample multiple Genoa classics. We had a great time on the excursion. I would highly recommend this to any foodies looking to sample authentic Genoa fare.

This was an excellent tour! We were in port for just a few hours and we couldn’t have had a better day! Our guide Valentina was amazing! She was full of energy and so knowledgeable about the culture, history and food of Genoa and the region. She introduced us to some of our favourite local foods and each dish was incredible! We loved spending the afternoon with her !! Thank you for an exceptional tour, Valentina!!!

Let’s start with the fact that the tour guide was great. No issues there.
If you know nothing about Italian food, the tour is okay. If you are a foodie, don’t bother.
We had most of the food presented in the tour on our own after being there wandering around for a day.
The places she took us (where she was told to go) were nothing special. As foodies, they were all just OK at best.
None of the places I would have searched out on my own.
The focaccia place was great. We went back there the next day, and they had all sorts of good baked goods besides focaccia.
One of the “nicer sit-down places” for pasta had the cheapest you can buy stamped silverware. Details matter.
Another was a run-of-the-mill, middle-of-the-road, corporate-run, get lunch at the office kind of place.
Food was fine, but absolutely not special in any way.
The gelato place at the end was middling at best. Definitely not a great representation of the genre.
SO:
Take the tour if you have limited time and just want to learn a little bit about Genoa food and don’t mind okay food.
If you are a foodie and want interesting, high-quality food and search out the best places on your own. This is not the tour for you.

Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We’re pleased to hear that you found the guide to be great on the Genoa Food Tour by Do Eat Better Experience, as our guides are a key part of what we strive to offer.
We’re sorry to learn that the food selection did not meet your expectations as an experienced foodie. Our tours are designed to provide a broad and accessible introduction to local cuisine and traditions, especially for first-time visitors or those with limited time, but we understand that travelers with high-end/luxury culinary options may be looking for something more niche or experimental. Your comments are valuable and will be shared with our team as we continuously review and refine our partner venues and overall experience.

Our guide, Serena, was extremely friendly and very knowledgeable about the city. She took us to several places to sample traditional local dishes such as fried mixed seafood, focaccia, cheese focaccia, pesto pasta, and gelato, while sharing the history of Genoa. We also added the drinks package, which allowed us to try local cocktails, wines, and beer. Our family truly enjoyed this experience thanks to Serena, who did an excellent job.

Interesting experience, great food and learned a lot about Genoa too. Highly recommend to get some great local insight!
kathypatsager, Nov 2025
Serena was a wonderful guide! Very knowledgeable! Very fun! The places she took us to were delicious! At the end of the tour Serena helped us get a taxi back to the ship insuring the taxi driver charged us correctly, which had not been the case on our taxi ride from the port to the food tour meeting place. Beware! But Serena with her excellent Italian will help you!
Alan_C, Oct 2025
Perfect way to experience a small part of Genoa. Our local guide gave us an in depth overview of a beautiful city. The food was amazing and she had us try things we never knew existed! They all were great!
alice_f, Oct 2025
Fantastic tour with amazing guide Valentina!
The pesto was nothing like I have ever had before…. And the focaccia…… learned much about genoa through food. Book this and don’t eat before you go!
Tracy_F, Oct 2025
Serena was very knowledgeable and experienced. Our group of 10 had 2 languages and she did a nice job with both. Good mix of places and local venues. Provided additional tips for after the tour.
Bryjanna_B, Oct 2025
This was one of the best excursions we’ve done. We had Valentina as our guide for the Street Food tour and it was top notch from start to finish. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide and experience. All of the food options were delicious and unique to Genoa and we did not leave hungry haha would definitely tour with them again and try the different tour options.
Cheryl_B, Oct 2025
Absolutely wonderful walking food tour! Valentina took us to five places to eat. I felt like we had a 5 course meal, even ending with espresso! Very authentic experience. Valentina was very knowledgeable and thorough. Valentina took great care to find the easiest routes for us, as we had a scooter to consider. Allow at least 30 minutes to get to the meeting place.
Gail_S, Oct 2025
We arrived at the meeting point for the tour 45 minutes early but ended up being the last two to join the group. We were literally just 15 feet away from the guide while she was looking for us! It would be helpful if tour guides carried some kind of identifier, like a distinctive bag or sign, to make it easier for guests to find them.
Our guide, Serena, was very friendly and knowledgeable. We really enjoyed the walk and appreciated all the historical insights she shared. At times, it was a little hard to hear her soft voice due to the surrounding crowd, but the stories behind each shop were fascinating and added so much context we wouldn’t have gotten on our own.
The only point of confusion was the “full meal” mentioned in the tour title—it turned out to be a collection of small dishes from each stop rather than a single sit-down meal.
Susan_H, Oct 2025
Great tour filled with lots of historical perspectives and great food. Perfect small group as we were able to converse as we walked. We were given guide contact in case we had additional questions which became very handy when we needed help later in the day.
Liana_G, Sep 2025
We had an amazing time! We learned so much from our tour guide Valentina, and the food was incredible. We left feeling very full! Would 100% recommend to those who love food and history!
Barb_N, Sep 2025
The first two stops were amazing. And the coffee stop was much appreciated. The tour guide Deborah was very nice and told good ghost stories. I think the food was representative of Genoa street food, but it was a lot of bread and we would have liked more protein ( beef, pork, chicken) tho the chickpea Farinata was good. It just came after the focaccia that we wolfed down.
Response from Host, Sep 2025
Thank you so much for your feedback! We're glad to hear you enjoyed the first two stops and appreciated the coffee break — and we'll be sure to pass your kind words on to Deborah. She’ll be happy to know you enjoyed her ghost stories!
Regarding the food: we totally understand the desire for more variety, including protein options. However, as mentioned in the tour description, the tastings are meant to showcase authentic Genoese street food, which traditionally doesn’t include beef, pork, or chicken dishes. Focaccia and farinata, for example, are among the most iconic local specialties.
That said, we really appreciate your input and will definitely keep it in mind as we continue to improve the experience!

Valentina was very knowledgeable, charismatic and pleasant lady. We are so happy to book this food tour.

This is without a doubt the thing to do in Genoa. The whole experience makes for a nice walk with great food.
Gerald_M, Sep 2025
My husband and I enjoyed this tour immensely!! Gives you such a good feel for the city, their culture and their wonderful food. I would highly recommend this tour, Victoria our tour guide was very good, very knowledgeable and engaging.
Marc_S, Sep 2025
Our early August tour with Valentina was fantatsic. She was full of energy and brought a lot of enthusiasm for her city, the food and guests. Valentina took us to several wonderful places to enjoy focaccia, calamari, wine, cappuccino and pastries. Her knowledge of the area and history were excellent. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who thinks they might enjoy exploring the alleys and food of Genoa.
Sebastian_B, Aug 2025
