Une catastrophe en terme de sécurité

Jeudi 28 juillet, nous avons réservé l´excursion en kayak de 17h pour découvrir la Ria Formosa. Nous étions 2 adultes et 2 adolescents. Il s´agissait uniquement d´une ballade en kayak entre 2 points avec arrêt sur une île que nous aurions pu faire seuls. Un peu d´informations sur la Ria formosa données par le guide que nous aurions pu trouver seuls. Cela aurait pu passer même si cela faisait cher de la ballade. Au retour de l´île d´Armona nous avons dû traverser le chenal réservé au passage des bateaux et notamment du ferry venant d´Olhao. Notre guide avait pris de l´avance et les ado étaient à la traine. Nous nous sommes retrouvés au milieu du chenal alors que le ferry avait pris le départ et avançait rapidement vers nous. Le guide regardait le ferry et ne nous donnait aucune information ni consigne, se contentant de regarder le ferry venir vers nous. Nos adolescents se sont retrouvés face au ferry qui a dû se dévier pour les éviter puis ils ont été pris dans le remou créé par son passage. Le guide a continué sa route sans faire aucun commentaire. Visiblement la sécurité n´est pas dans les préoccupations premières de cet organisme que je déconseille vivement pour cette raison.

Dearest Chrystel, It broke my heart receiving this review as we put our heart and soul into our company and tours every single day again. I can assure you that safety is our absolute priority and untill now, we never received a similar complaint (as our -only 5 star- reviews on google and all other websites proof) and never had any issue/accident with any of our customers. When I asked your husband how the tour had been, after you returned, I didn't receive any critics at all, on the contrary, his answer was: "great, thanks!", hence my complete surprise with your review. In any case, we investigated all that you mentioned in the review as the care for our customers and the improvement of our service is holy to us and I believe there are some misunderstandings about your tour. Please allow me to go over them. •Our 2hrs island tour is indeed a point to point trip with 1 stop on Armona island. We give an good overview of what the ria Formosa has to offer. This is what is the 2 hour tour is for. There's indeed no time to visit multiple islands or have multiple stops. That is what our longer Tours are for and what the distances of the park permit. We never pretend to end the tour in another destination. It's clearly mentioned that the trip is starting and finishing at the meetingpoint. • We ask during the briefing (and on your tour several times during the Tour as well). How is the guide supposed to give information when kayaks get away from the main group while his concern is to keep the group together? •There is no "reserved channel" for boats or the ferry in the bay. There is an hourly service during summer so indeed we can get relatively close to the ferry and that's why we ALWAYS wait for it when we see it's going to leave. The reason is that the ferry (as a huge vessel) is not able to turn very fast. So the "deviation" as you mentioned is not an option for it. Besides, the captains is in the back of the vessel, unable to see in front of him because the second passengers deck block his view. Your teenagers were not "lagging" behind but were escaping from the main group. •The information you receive during the trip is indeed openly available and anyone is free to research about the ria Formosa. We don't pretend to know "secrets" about it. I assure you that if the guide don't have to "chase" members of the group all the time, that there's plenty of information given, even on the 2 hour tours. What we do know is where to find specific fauna and flora and where to find the best spots. That is partially why the guide is there and in case people prefer to moove freely in the park, we offer rental kayaks as well. I wish we could of had this conversation face to face after the tour but as there was no indication for me that the tour wasn't what expected and as a member of the group confirmed me it was "great", I had no idea. In any way, I would like to express my sincere apologies for this. Clearly something wasn't quite as it supposed to be. I believe it is a matter of personal tastes and many misunderstandings in this case so again, my sincere apologies!
