Gosh, I don’t know where to start with the compliments. John was an absolute delight to your us all through the Scottish Highlands for 3 days. He is highly personable and kind. He definitely goes out of his way to make sure you are comfortable, fed, and will keep you on schedule without making you feel rushed and still not miss any of the sites. Due to tardy train schedule, we unfortunately parley missed the viaduct train go by, but that was the only mishap. We would have stayed to wait, but had the frrry to catch. Glencoe was a dream, and the sites on the Isle I will never forget, John and McLeod Highland Tours is the best and I will book again.

We just got back from our second trip to Scotland and it was nothing short of magic. I want to give the biggest shout out to John from Macleod Heilon Tours who brought us around Skye on a 4 day private tour. We do a lot of tours when we travel and my husband and I agree that this has been hands down the greatest touring experience we have ever had. John is an incredible professional, a phenominal story teller and has great sense of humor. He has so much knowledge of his country and shares it so well. When my kids are asked what their favorite part of the trip is they respond with their tour with John!

I can’t say enough about our wonderful time with John on this tour. He was so kind in adjusting our itinerary to our interests. Our day is Skye was rainy and foggy but the day was still wonderful due to his personality and concern for our needs. He ensured we made it to Glennfinnan Viaduct to see the train and we even managed to take the speed boat tour in Loch Ness and see an extra castle by working with us to adjust our schedule. If you want a guide who is truly passionate about sharing his culture, you won’t be disappointed by booking with him.

Magical Skye

Having Marco as our guide made our visit to Skye from Edinburgh fun, personal and educational. We had a few alternate sites we wanted to to see, and Marco easily adjusted our itinerary. We started at Stirling Castle, which was fantastic. Lochs and Glencoe got us to our hotel just over the bridge to Skye. He was there the next morning and we had a splendid tour of Skye. Marco knew what the weather was going to do, and was able to save the afternoon sun for Quiraing, Storr and the Fairy Glen. In the morning, we most of went to the Fairy Pools, but one of our group couldn't manage the longer walk, so Marco took her to the beach and other adventures. Our final day was spent at Dunvegan Castle and Loch Ness. We chose not to do the lake boat tour, which gave us extra time to see some other sites. We never felt rushed, and if additional time was needed at a stop, no problem! One of our group left their passport and purse at a toilet stop - no problem to circle back and retrieve it (and it was there!). We had several Hairy Coo stops, and Marco provided the carrots. He also offered us snacks each day. Plus, he wore a kilt! And he knew the historical facts of each site, and we asked probing questions, and he knew the answers. Our trip was MAGICAL and we want to return and explore other Scottish islands with Marco

Epic Highland Experience

This tour was incredible!! The communication leading up to the tour was great. Our tour leader, Marco, was the BEST. He was so knowledgeable and thoughtful. My family does quite a bit of travel and this is truly one of the best experiences we’ve had. One of our highlights were the hairy coos. When my sister realized in all the excitement, she never got a photo op. Equipped with carrots, Marco made sure that we a “coo-over” on day 2. Marco found out it was my son‘s 12th birthday on day 3 and surprised him with a cake and candles. We cannot thank Marco enough for all of the amazing memories.

I want to thank John Sheedy for being our wonderful guide from Edinburgh to the Isle of Skye and back again. Having a local guide proved to be invaluable. The history and stops were from the perspective of someone who truly lived and loved the land. He incorporated the places everyone wants to see as well as some hidden gems that only the locals know and only a small vehicle could get to. He ended up being the photo op himself where ever we would stop, dressed in his kilt and sporran. He was gracious to tourists and knew all the shop keepers, tour guides and fishermen along the way ( some of them relatives!) It was fun to hear the facts of the history as well as the stories of his youth. Hiring Macleod Heilan Tours was the best decision we made for our Scotland trip!
