Really amazing hike with Antoine, who is incredibly knowledgeable about botany and all the local plants. Recommend bringing good hiking shoes and a rain jacket, and note that this hike can be challenging, but very worth it.

This was a highlight of our travels!
We met our guide (Hubert from Waitukubuli Tours) very close to our cruise port and he drove us out and back. It was wonderful to have a local and knowledgeable guide to share information about history, culture, flora and fauna.
The Middleham Falls hike is a little over 3 miles round trip. We found it to be moderately strenuous- the trail is clear but dynamic with lots of elevation change with many steep steps and some uneven footing. The waterfall at the end is breathtaking and we saw only a few other hikers on the trail. There are water crossings and slippery tree roots, stones, and logs. We opted for hiking shoes which gave good traction but got very wet very quickly. The trail could be done in hiking sandals (like Chacos) or some sort of water shoe, but with so many slippery areas there is risk of falls and injuries in lighter weight footwear.
Overall the hike will feel harder for those of us who may be a little out of shape, or not used to the hot humid climate. Drinking plenty of cold water, and taking a quick breather after a steep stair climb helped us acclimate and accomplish the small challenges of the climb.
Our guide was kind and patient, gauging our fitness levels and pointing out hazards along the way. He is very knowledgeable about local flora and fauna- we learned about the botany of the area and heard and caught glimpses of local mammals and beautiful hummingbirds and parrots! We hiked in both sunshine and in torrential pouring rain. It was wonderful.
Visiting TiTou Gorge after our hike was a great way to cool off and have a unique experience of a short swim up the deep gorge to a waterfall. PFD’s are available on site for flotation, as well as some local vendors selling souvenirs. The water was chilly but pleasant, and there were handholds and ropes to help navigate the quick moving current. The scenery is unique and memorable.
If we are ever able to return to Dominica we would not hesitate to go on more tours with the Waitukubuli Tours company, and highly recommend their services. We were well taken care of by them and were very comfortable all day long.

Very knowledgeable about plants on the island the hiking trails and sights. Made it a personal experience

The best tour of our trip. Very strenuous, and not for someone who is not somewhat fit and used to hiking. I handled it, at almost 70 years old, but I walk several miles each day. Our tour guide was a wonderful man who is a botanist and seasoned guide and hiker. Antoine made the tour very memorable. Because it’s one of the more strenuous hikes the trail was almost empty, making it even more enjoyable. Highly recommend!

Was a great excursion little strenuous but my guide was extremely helpful! The gorge was the definite highlight
Response from Host, Nov 2025
Thank you! Don't forget to keep hiking with your stick :) haha

A great morning hike to Middleham falls. Antoine is an expert botanist and experienced hiker with a lifetime of Dominica experience. This hike could be tough for a novice not in shape with the wrong shoes on a rainy day. Some sections are steep with use of hands required but it's not far. The reward is one of the finest waterfalls I have ever seen. We also floated the gorge, a unique but short experience..

This is definitely NOT an easy hike (husband opted to wait for us on a bench halfway) but the powerful falls and taking a dip in the pool at the bottom was well worth it! The forest is amazing - perfectly quiet at times and a lot of “screeching” at other times- and bizarre looking crabs! Definitely take a walking stick available at the trail beginning and just laugh at the sign that says it should take 45 minutes each way. Thanks to Hubert who was knowledgeable, encouraging and very kind. Loved the reward of plantain chips!

Difficult to rate the experience. Our guide was fantastic. He deserves 5 stars, but the description of the Middleham Falls hike doesn't really go into enough detail about the difficulty. You need to read the notes from the trip operator which have one short sentence about this not being and easy hike. Do a Google search on "Is Middleham Falls hike not easy". I wish I would've but the Viator tour desciption made it sound like a moderate trail through nature and "a breeze". We fell in the mud so much we skipped the Titou Gorge portion. The hike is extremely difficult and should only be attempted by skilled trail hikers. Climbing over rocks, slipping in treacherous mud and bouldering skills should be expected. It's a rain forest so you'll experience rain and slippery mud. You'll need a hiking stick and deep lug hiking shoes. The trail is at least 1 1/2 hours each way. Don't let anyone tell you different. Again, expect to fall several times in the slippery mud. Our guide saved us from falling more or being severely injured. He was great. They say the trail is moderate but that's by Dominica standards because there are other trails that Dominca rates difficult which we are told are multi day and would be expert only in the USA. There are many other waterfalls experiences that are easier. Do your research and thoroughly read the reviews and you'll find a better option.

This was the most memorable experience of our trip. The guides were incredibely knowledgeable, kind, fun, and humorous. They both went above and beyond to make our experience enjoyable and shaped to our comfort level. Highly recommend booking this tour for a wonderful adventure.

We had Leonard all to ourselves as we hiked to the beautiful falls. He took his time with us and showed us many interesting things in the rainforest. We loved the exhilarating swim in the Ti'tou Gorge after the strenuous hike to the falls. Our tour should have ended there but Leonard went out of his way to take us to some other interesting sites and then joined us for lunch in Rosseau before driving us back to our cruise ship. We learned a lot about this beautiful island and plan to come back soon. We will definitely reach out to Leonard for more tours of the island when we do!
Polly_m, Dec 2024
This was an amazing experience!! Leonard was truly the perfect guide for us. He did not push us but was encouraging when needed. The hike was definitely difficult for our group of 4, decent shape, ages 58, 59, 60 and 61. All 4 of us fell at some point lol. It was quite muddy and hot and humid just like it should be in a rain forest!! We even got to swim in the icy water at the top of the hike! The swim at Titou gorge was one of the most exhilarating and memorable things I have ever done!!! I may return to Dominica just to repeat the swim at Titou Gorge with a GoPro this time.

Our tour guide, Leonard, was amazing!
He was very encouraging throughout the hike, but this hike kicked our butts. We couldn't make it all the way to the waterfall. I would highly suggest that only avid hikers attempt this hike due to terrain and high temperature/humidity.
Up next, Leonard took us to Fresh Water Lake and gave us some background information on how the island uses hydroelectricity for a power source.
We also made a few stops along the way where he picked fresh fruit for us to try. My daughter loved both the guava and star fruit.
Titou Gorge was beautiful and amazing. We welcomed the cold water after the waterfall hike attempt.
We finished off the day by going to the Botanical Garden, Bamboo House, and a lookout point to see the entire city of Roseau.
I would suggest this company and Leonard to everyone.

What an AMAZING time we had with Lennard on March 1st 2024. The "hike" to Middleham Falls was challenging for sure for us (husband & wife in their 60's) but Lennard made sure we were OK the entire way through and encouraged us to keep going. It was truly incredible and we are still taliking about it and telling friends and family about our experience. Totally professional guide but fun, personable and kind too! While the hike may be too challenging for some, if you are normally active, just book this excursion. You'll never forget it. Bring hiking shoes!!

Hubert picked us up from the Roseau Cruise Terminal for our daytrip to hike Middleham Falls and to explore Ti'tou Gorge. I have to admit, this was one of the most memorable and incredible experiences of our trip. Hubert is not only professional, but SO flexible, accommodating, kind, a great conversationalist, and an excellent tour guide. We were BEYOND impressed. Pickup was easy, timely, and efficient.
The hike is a long hike for those without hiking experience, and it is important to come with the appropriate supplies such as water, snacks, and shoes (water shoes with grip will do). Plan to get your feet wet as you will have to cross a river. Not a big deal! You do hike up a steep ridgeline, only to come down on the other side, which means both trips in and out are uphill and downhill. There were some moments where the trail got narrow, but it was not impassible or unsafe. I felt very safe the entire time, and Hubert was careful to guide us along.
After the hike was completed, we traveled to Ti'tou Gorge, which was absolutely beautiful. The water was cold, yikes! But totally worth the swim through.
Would I recommend this tour? ABSOLUTELY. What if you're not an experienced hiker? Just take it slow, take your time, and remember "step by step" - it's not a race, it's a journey, so enjoy each step of the way. It may seem difficult and LONG at times, but certainly manageable for able-bodied. The reward of seeing the waterfalls is absolutely incredible - purely breathtaking.

I found the hike to Middleham Falls to be very strenuous. While I’m a pretty fit 72 year old and regularly walk four plus miles a day, I wasn’t expecting this hike to be as steep and rough as it is. I might not have signed up for it if I had. BUT, it was worth every minute when I got there! Our guide, Hubert Wilson, was great and always offered a hand when I needed it. The falls are stunning. But, hands down, the highlight of the day was swimming Ti’Tou Gorge! It was awesome!!!!!
Skullian2, Feb 2020
It was a great experience. Hubert was very cool and did a great job leading the hike and teaching is the gorge. My only feedback would be to have a better description of the hike. We were not expecting 45 minutes on pretty rugged terrain. One of our party opted out once he found out how long the hike was. For us it was a great way to see the island and we had a blast.
Charles_J, Dec 2019
Let us start by saying the FALLS were fantastic and WE STRONGLY recommend this experience BUT our "hiking guide" CHADI was even better than the trip!!!!! He was so patient with our group. Encouraged us when we needed to keep going. Slowed down when our group needed to take time. He was super knowledgeable about His island (and the entire Carribean for that matter)
Please read THESE DETAILS before going on this experience: This hike is over 3 miles. It is not a good beginner hike (in our opinion) due to terrain changes and elevation. Please read all of the reviews rather than the description from the tour company. The reviews really were accurate for what you would experience. Do not recommend bringing anyone on the trip that can not walk 4 miles comfortably without exhaustion.
Get ready for an experience of a lifetime as you hike the most beautiful terrain and get the extra bonus of swimming at the base of the water fall when you have reached the top!!!!

This was a great adventure into the interior on trails that can be challenging at times. It is on a trail that is anything but smooth, lots of tree roots, rocks and log boardwalks with some pretty good elevation changes. You should be in pretty good shape to do this. That being said our guide Hubert, also the owner, was very good at keeping the pace set so our group of 60 yr. olds got through it ok. The Falls were very nice but the Ti'tou gorge was awesome and a welcome swim after sweating it out on the Falls hike. I would recommend this Company

Winston gave us a wonderful tour as we drove through the botanical gardens to the place where we hiked. Middleham falls were impressive and we loved swimming in the Titou Gorge. Great tour!

This was an absolutely amazing experience! Mega Bite picked us up right across the street from our cruise ship Be careful...there are locals trying to get you to use them to taxi to the falls. They even told us that Mega Bite didn't exist and that we had been scammed when we didn't see them right away Our tour guide, Hubert was outstanding. He took great care of us the whole time. It is an absolute blast for the kids. I was a bit out of shape but was able to make the hike into and out of the falls. GREAT workout! Swimming in the Gorge after seeing the falls was even more amazing. Fun day full of great sightseeing, fresh air, exercise and a bit of Island education.
