Top experience.
Our lovely guide, Lino, came to our Airbnb the night before and talked us through the plan. This was really reassuring and is significantly better than other tour companies which have left us wondering whether they are really going to pick us up for their tours.
The following morning, Lino was beaming outside our Airbnb at 03:00 which made us giggle - clearly someone was excited to walk on the Inca trail. He then walked us to a private driver and guided us to the train to the start of our route. Not only were the logistics extremely smooth and allowed us to relax (even catch up on sleep), Lino had all our tickets pre-printed that allowed us to skip to the front of queues and settle onto the train quickly.
At around 06:00 we jumped off the train to start the Inca trail hike. It was beyond amazing. Lino explained everything to do with Inca history and answered all of our questions with depth and immense passion - we can’t wait for you to viscerally feel his passion about Inca history and Hiram Bingham.
A key thing to note about the first day of hiking is that Lino made us feel really relaxed about our walking pace. He encouraged us to break, unlike other companies, and when we did stop to drink water and snack he would point to flowers, insects and mountains in the distance and explain what they were. Lino also helped us walk passed a group of Lamas which followed us down to Macchu Picchu! This was really fun and if my partner and I were alone we probably would have been too nervous to pass them - but they were super friendly.
Another key benefit to note about this tour is that you walk up to the Sun gate which looks down on Macchu Picchu! This my favourite part. We then walked down to Macchu Picchu for 40 minutes and we were able to see it the whole way. Highly recommend! This is a key reason not to just tick off Macchu Picchu and actually do a 2 or 4 day Inca trail walk!
Lino knew all the best photo spots too! And I think he has a, not so secret, passion for photography. He absolutely loves to take photos, and especially panorama! Whilst I’m on the topic of Lino, in addition to having all our tickets and route printed out, he was ready with hand sanitiser whenever we needed it and he left us use his bug repellent cream as you’re not supposed to use repellent spray.
I realise this is a little long now so I’ll wrap it up. On the second day we went back to Macchu Picchu to explore the lower side and all the buildings and temples. The other benefit to doing a 2 or 4 day Inca trail hike is that you go to Macchu Picchu through a side entrance. Again Lino was on top of this and we walked passed the massive queue waiting to go through the main entrance. The second day requires little to no hiking so don’t be worried about your sore legs! This was a happy relief for us haha.
Overall top experience, definitely recommend.

This was the perfect tour if you're not a big hiker or have a short amount of time to explore Machu Picchu.
Our guide Fischer was incredible and let us go at our own pace (the altitude is no joke, even though we had been acclimatising for 5 days prior). He was very knowledgeable and friendly.
I found the packed lunch to be very good - a lot more than I would usually eat in one sitting - which meant we had plenty of snacks for the next day as well.
It was still one of the harder hikes I've done as a novice, but it was absolutely worth it for the views and Machu Picchu at the end. We took as many breaks as needed, which just meant we spent more time looking at the incredible scenery.
The hotel and dinner spot in Aguas Calientes were also nicer than what I've experienced on other multi day tours.

Machu Picchu is magnificent. Like nothing I've ever seen before. The trail on day one was challenging but so beautiful and our guide Hipo really made the whole experience for us. He was so enthusiastic, supportive and knowledgeable. He had great humor and it was just really enjoyable to spend the 2 days with him. If I was coming back to Cusco/Machu Picchu i'd definitely request to go with him again.
He also helped to make the trip very smooth with no waiting in lines and he was very punctual.
The trek itself was fantastic. It totally exceeded my expectations and I was really glad to have Hipo with us to learn all about the nature, scenery and inkan history.
The lunch provided on day 1 was also exceptional, for a packed lunch I was very impressed, it was the best brownie I've ever had!
This experience was definitely something I will always remember and would fully recommend someone coming to Peru to do.
As an avid traveller and reviewer, I believe feedback is a gift so I'm also sharing the reasons I am giving this experience 4 stars and not 5, with the hope it will be taken on board by the tour provider to make this specific tour even better.
The 2 main reasons this was not a 5 star experience were the following:
1. Accommodation
The staff at the B&B were so friendly and helpful, however the quality of the accomodation was really bad. Our room had windows on the first floor that didn't lock, the walls were paper thin so we could hear everything from outside including loud techno music and dogs barking at 3am. This meant that we had a terrible sleep. Considering day 1 starts at 4am and day 2 at 5:30am, having a restful place to stay is so important. Additionally the bathroom facilities were really old and smelled like sewage. For a tour that cost over €1000 for 2 of us, the accomodation was really below expectations. We checked online and it was about €40 for the night in the B&B we stayed in, and you could tell. I strongly recommend investing in a higher quality accomodation for future guests.
2. Day 2 of the tour, bad organisation
The morning of the second day was fantastic. Hipo collected us and took us to Machu Picchu for a tour and we were one of the first groups in which was amazing.
However we were back in Aguas Calientes for about 9:30am and the tour was over, but we had to wait until 15:50 for our train back to Cusco. That's over 6 hours in a town with not much to do and no access to a hotel or facilities.
This felt like a serious waste of time and was really disappointing. I feel we should have been travelling back to Cusco within 2 hours of the tour ending.
The final thing that really bothered me was after the wait, we boarded the train back to Cusco to realize we weren't seated together. As a couple, travelling together and booking the tour together, I expect that our seats on the scenic train ride of over 1 hour are beside each other. This felt like really really bad organisation from the tour provider and to be honest after spending that amount of money and waiting that long for the train, just isn't good enough.
Overall day 1 was 10/10, we couldn't thank our guide Hipo enough, as apart from the magnificent scenery, he was the highlight for us.

Lino the guide was extremely knowledgeable and always ready to share his knowledge to create an amazing experience. The hike was absolutely breathtaking and Lino was great at going at our pace.

Everything about the tour is perfect! Christian, our tour guide is incredibly knowledgeable about the ecosystem in the inka trail, the history and culture of Machu Picchu, and takes great photos! He makes our trip really special. The tour is exactly as described: the lunch bag for the first day is of good quality and tasty. We stayed in a cozy hotel and had dinner that’s beyond our expectations. Would recommend the tour for anyone who is not just aiming for the destination (Machu Picchu) but also wants to enjoy the journey!

This tour was an amazing experience that exceeded my expectations! It was so well organised and a lot of fun. Dario, our tour guide, was fabulous. He supported us the whole way and made the whole trip fun and informational. The hike was well worth it and such a rewarding experience!

This hike was hard to describe- it was exhausting and exhilarating at the same time! During the middle of it, I was questioning why we didn’t just do the tour and skip the hike 😂 But when it was done, we felt so accomplished and happy! Auriol was an awesome guide, we couldn’t have asked for anything better. Everything was perfect and so was all the food that was included. This tour company was very organized, highly recommend!
