Itinerary

After pickup from your centrally located Chengdu hotel, travel in an air-conditioned vehicle to Mt. Qingcheng, known for its forested slopes, peaceful atmosphere, and deep connections to Taoism.

Explore the mountain’s well-preserved Taoist temples and cruise across Yuecheng Lake, taking in the tranquil scenery before beginning a guided hike. Follow shaded trails for around two hours, stopping at historic temples along the way while your guide explains their spiritual significance and the influence of the Tang and Qing dynasties. After reaching the upper sections, choose to descend on foot or by cable car.

Continue to a local restaurant for lunch, then head to the Dujiangyan Irrigation System, a UNESCO-listed hydraulic project that transformed agriculture in the region more than 2,000 years ago. Walk the site to see its ancient structures, waterways, statues, and gardens, and learn how its innovative design still controls water flow today.

After exploring the complex, relax on the return drive to Chengdu, arriving back at your hotel with a deeper understanding of the area’s natural beauty, spiritual heritage, and engineering legacy.

Interesting places and good guide

CristinaTieko_K, Jun 2025
The guide Wells had very good english, and he and the driver were very attentious. I didn't last any time buying tickets to boat and cable car. Mount Qingcheng is very interesting, the birth of Taoism. And the Dujiangyan irrigation system is impressive. Wells explained to me the clever system built some centurires ago and still working. The lunch was very good. I liked the trip but would not do it again because of the cost benefit, mainly because I was traveling solo.

Thank you very much for your feedback, have forwarded it to Wells, we are keeping work hard to let all our clients enjoy their tours here.

Day trip from chengdu

Great trip. Guide spoke excellent English and could understand our questions and answer them with context. He was considerate in his pacing and concerned for our safety. There are many many steps and the trip description should advise travelers that this is a strenuous activity. The irrigation site was beautiful with outstanding landscaping. The history and significance of the site was amazing. Our guide was very helpful in our understanding of the story.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We truly appreciate your feedback and hope to serve you again in the near future.

walk in the nature with a dating feeling

The tour itself was OK and many of the monuments were left aside in order to have a lunch. It took also more than the predicted time, which left me no time to visit the monuments at Chengdu. So for people that can speak some Chinese and want to do sightseeing I would recommend to go there by themshelves. They would manage to see more and walk around in the mountain, whose natural environment is comparable to Emeishan. But for people like me that like flirting with girls, this tour is ideal. Silvia, although not so beautiful, will let you have a nice dating feeling that you will remember for days. She also arranged for me a driver to drive me to the train station next day.

Wonderful tour, many many stairs

Had an awesome time seeing all the history and party's of this tour. Would've liked a little more time at the irrigation plant as we only saw the main pieces, none of the trails. Our guide was great, answered questions, allowed us time to explore each place and taught us lots about the history each place.

This tour was outstanding. Most people go to Chengdu for the pandas, which of course are must-see, but this tour got us out of the city into the nearby mountain areas. What a nice change of pace to get out of the city and into the countryside and farmland. Lillian, our guide, spoke excellent English. She notified the hotel she was coming and picked us up in the lobby. Our driver was friendly, car was clean and comfortable with strong a/c. Lillian and driver provided so much information cultural and historical about the beautiful area. The irrigation system is awesome! Quite an engineering feat from over 2000 years ago. So strong the 2007 earthquake didn't damage it. You can walk or ride the tram. Cross the river on a suspension bridge to see the Dao temple and choose to climb the surrounding trails. Lunch at a local restaurant was delicious and the beer was COLD!. Qingcheng Mountain was lovely. We took a tram, then a short walk to a short boat ride to a gondola. Then started to climb. The climb was steep at times, mostly on stairs with several flat areas to stop and rest. There were several young Chinese women doing the trek in platform spike heels! Very few handrails but steps were never too narrow or close to drop-off to be uncomfortable or scary. To avoid the climb you could choose to be carried in a sling for a nominal fee. The view from the top was stunning! Clean western toilets in both locations.

Very interesting tour and good tour...

Very interesting tour and good tour guide. Had a nice lunch in between sites. Thought the extra payment for transport $4 and the tram fare $13 could have been built into the tour fee.

I was disappointed that I wasn't able to visit Mt. Emei while in the area but found this tour and was impressed! First of all, I did not realize that this was a personal tour. All the other trips I've taken on Viator.com are with a big group. Not for this one, just you and the guide! My guide was nice and fun, which is good since just the two of us spent the whole day together. The irrigation system was okay, a bit crowded by the color of the water was beautiful and the bridge to see right by the entrance was neat. I like the swinging bridges, would have liked to go to the temple across the longer swinging bridge but we didn't have time, too far of a walk. The Qingcheng Mountain was great!! First of all, it's quite the adventure to get up there: you do a hike, then a (really smooth, short) boat ride and then a gondola ride to the top! (Be prepared, you'll have to pay for these tickets extra when you get there but it's very cheap and would take you hours to walk it so this is much more fun and practical way of doing it. And don't worry, still plenty of hiking and good exercise on this excursion!) There are plenty of interesting things to do on the way up, like see the temples or eat lunch at the monastery (the best Kung Pao chicken I had in China!) One very special moment for me was there is a "lock wall" where you can buy a lock and engrave it and leave it, very fun, cheap and quick to do and a lasting memory leaving my mark on the mountain forever. Lots of great opportunities for good shots on this excursion (I travel to take pics so that was the most important thing for me.) The one thing I'd recommend is to bring warmer clothing for the top, you're in the clouds and it gets cold. I forgot mine back at the hotel and survived but was a bit chilly, my own fault.

The trip was fantastic, started with a small hickup caused by very late booking, but even that was sorted out very quickly. Great guide and amazing place to see.
