Excellent trip. Very Knowledgeable guide. The castles were varied and interesting and the Abbey was an outstanding ruin

This tour was a great way to see so many places in a condensed amount of time. Our guide Andy gave us a lovely, informative day. The castles were awesome, and each quite different from one another, so not repetitive. Andy had fun stories and gave us an excellent idea of what life in Wales was like during the Roman and Medieval periods. All and all, and great way to spend a day in South Wales.

For the price I paid, I got more of a driver than a tour guide. Although I liked Andy, I would have liked information that was relevant to the tour, like the history of Wales and the geopolitical conquests, architectural facts and knowledge and cultural impact of the normans, romans and others, rather than the conversation and banter about American politics and personal views on sheep. Next time, I'll just rent a car a read a guidebook myself.

Caryl's review is wholly untrue. For the price Caryl paid she got so much from her day, which begins with the history of Cardiff as soon as we step into the vehicle and start driving... I engaged well with Caryl, her being a travel writer, and we discussed the future of travel at length. She even made notes of points I raised and said that my point about Net Zero impacting travel was something she had not included in her new book and that she would therefore add a new chapter based on our discussion!!! I even wrote about Caryl and linked out to her in my blog and social media.
Caryl is confused about what a tourist guides role is. Guides provide a generalised overview of information and rely upon gusts to ask questions, either as they arise or regarding particular areas of interest that they have.
This is a typical review of this tour, taken from Get Your Guide:
'This trip was amazing. Getting to see & learn 1st hand about the past was very informative. Our guide, Andy, was great. He set a fantastic pace. You were able to see & do, experience what you wanted and had time to take loads of pictures. The group size was also perfect, 5 of us taking the tour. You never felt left out of anything. I would take this trip again!'
Caryl was picked up from central Cardiff and taken to Caerleon Roman Amphitheatre, Chepstow Castle, Tintern Abbey, Caerphilly Castle and Castell Coch. The price of the tour includes entrance to all of the attractions! She was guided by me, in a small group tour of four clients, at Caerleon, part of Chepstow Castle, Caerphilly Castle and part of Castell Coch. She was then returned to central Cardiff. I did discuss, as I always do, Cardiff and it's ancient, industrial and modern histories, the Romans and their influence on Wales, the castle building of the Normans and the architecture of the castles, the wealth of Cardiff, where that came from and how that wealth was used to renovate the South Wales castles. I also discuss attractions as we approach them, so a discussion about Tintern and the Cistercian Monks took place prior to arrival at that location. I don't fully guide two of the castles and I never guide Tintern. I believe there are places where guiding is key to understand and enjoyment, others where orientation and gentle guiding is best and the client has time for personal exploration and places, such as Tintern Abbey, that are locations for a brief introduction then personal reflection.
Caryl obviously wanted something other than a group tour. As a guide I have a wealth of information that I can share but I am not formulaic and I will engage with discussion within the group, especially on journeys along motorways where there is not much to see and so provide a dialogue of interpretation. I believe Caryl, who holds specific views, did not like the discussion with the American guests, myself, herself and the Indonesian guest that on occasion took place. I think this says more about Caryl than it does about the tour or myself. I'm sorry, but a few ten minute chats, snatched at whilst driving through unremarkable landscapes ought not be the reason for leaving a poor review.
Finally, sheep chat is necessary. Wales has over 9 million sheep and 3 million people. Sheep define the Welsh landscape and we were seeing a lot of countryside and hills on our journey. To not discuss sheep and their impact is missing a huge chunk of what makes Wales as it appears today.
Caryl says about herself 'Caryl is a kind hearted, good soul.' Given the content of Caryl's review and it being so different in content to the content of the day, I beg to differ...

The walk was wonderful. The beauty of the sites visited was enhanced with the excellent guidance of Andy, our friendly and experienced guide from all over the tour. We start with Tintern Abbey and end with the imposing Caerphilly Castle, on paths of beautiful vegetation
