Just the right amount of time between stops to enjoy the sites! 3 castles and an abbey! Get the 3 day explorer pass!
Response from Host, Nov 2025
Thanks Karen. I'm glad you enjoyed

If you're mostly looking for transportation to the castles because you don't have a car then this tour is fine. There was very little info about the history of Wales. We learned a little bit but I would not consider it in depth. I wish I had learned more about each of the castles rather than relying on the audio guides. We decided to do a sit down lunch at Caerphilly but it took up most of our time and we barely got to see the castle so keep that in mind when choosing a place to eat.
Response from Host, Oct 2025
Thank you for the review. I basically do my tours the same every time. I say more or less the same things. My reviews show that I'm very well received by customers. There is always one person who doesn't like the tour. I'll go with the consensus.
Michele_R, Oct 2025
This tour offered 2 choices- Castles or Swansea Bay. We originally wanted castles but Gareth said the Bay choice was a better one. We feel we may have chose poorly. The drive was very long. We stopped at a seaside town which was breathtaking. Then a drive to a small town which was basically a lunch stop. The Abbey stop was nice but not much to do/see. The last stop was a waterfall but seemed more like a restroom break and then the long ride back to Cardiff. Although Gareth was pleasant and knowledgable, it was an expensive tour for what you got to experience and felt like we spent most of our time in the van. Bottled water would have been a nice touch as is usually provided on private tours.

I'm sorry that you didn't really enjoy. My prices have stayed the same for 3 years. I understand that people are short of money at the moment. You could have gone wherever you'd liked. It was a private tour and in fact you booked the Swansea bay tour on viator. Then you blame me for suggesting to go to the places you booked. When we stopped at the 900 year old abbey that was what you were meant to look at. When you asked to stop for a sit down lunch I can't see what else I could have done but take you somewhere to eat. Take you somewhere with lots of options. We stopped in Mumbles for lunch, which you booked and is gorgeous. I also gave you the offer of a coastal walk but you all stayed silent. The last stop was UNESCO protected, one of the oldest industrial sites in the world but some people really aren't that interested in much. I just got a vibe off you guys that you wanted the day to be negative. I can't change the drive times. If I'd driven you ten minutes from Cardiff you would have complained about that. Driving a long way is obviously more work for me and costs more in fuel. Next time do your research and decide where you want to go. I did offer water too. I always do. I also bought you Welsh cakes, laverbread and took you to buy Welsh cheese. Also somebody in your group gave me an £80 tip and commended me on my knowledge. Do you usually give £80 tips for tours you don't enjoy? Lastly you were eight people. If you had booked two taxis from Cardiff to take you everywhere I took you it would have cost you a lot more than you paid. So I suppose a glorified taxi was cheaper than a regular one.

I had so much fun on Gareth’s tour! It was a long day, but it felt like we spent the perfect amount of time at each of the locations while learning plenty of facts about Welsh history and culture. Gareth comes from a background in history—and you can tell just how passionate he is about sharing his knowledge with others! He’s a wealth of information and had plenty to cool facts to share on some rather obscure topics. Thanks for the welshcakes, and absolutely everything else Gareth! :)

Gareth was such a welcoming and informative guide. I had a very short amount of time in Wales and this tour allowed for me to appreciate it's beauty, culture, history, and future. Each stop along the way was unique and clearly selected with the expertise of a local.

Great tour! Tour guide has a wonderful demeanor and is very knowledgeable. Did the Valley tour and had plenty of time to visit four places! Bonus at Caerphilly Castle, there was a Big Cheese Festival (no cheese involved, but great food) going on. 10/10 would recommend.

I joined the Wandering Bard’s Valley Tour.
It was wonderful. The Abbey and castles are amazing and impressive.
The area is rich in nature. It is different from the city.
The tour guide is great. He explained a lot about Wales. I couldn’t understand Wales at all without him.
Thank you very much for your wonderful tour.

Great itinerary, as if it had been made to measure for my plans. Gareth is a fantastic guide, extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Thanks to this trip, I have visited in the most enjoyable way destinations like
Caerphilly or Tinern Abbey that I could have never reached without him.

I did a little solo trip from Canada and this tour looked like something right up my alley. I had no idea how amazing it was actually going to turn out to be. Gareth was very professional, extremely knowledgeable and was always kind. As a female solo traveller I felt like I was in good hands. With all of that out of the way, the drive to our stops went by quite quickly as Gareth was always giving us information on the different areas/culture/language etc. It was very interesting to hear about. The stops made along the trip were beautiful in different ways. Rhossili Bay is absolutely breathtaking and worth the trip alone. During our stop at Mumbles I grabbed some fish and chips from a local shop and ate it by the water(what more could you ask for really?) Afterwards I had some ice cream from Joe’s which was also very good. If you haven’t done this tour yet, there is no need to second guess it, just book it.
Response from Host, Aug 2025
Wow Brenda. Thanks so much for this. It was wonderful meeting you.

Wymann_T, Jun 2025
We joined the trips organised by Gareth for 3 consecutive days - which included the tours to West Wales, the Wye Valley, and to Swansea. Gareth provided a very comprehensive itinerary which allowed us to take in the many sights Wales had to offer. Along the way, we were also provided with many tidbits of interesting historical facts. Overall, we found the tours very well organised and convenient - especially since we weren't able to drive to the various landmarks on our own.
Response from Host, Jun 2025
Wow three days and you didn't feel like killing me. Only joking. So happy that you enjoyed the three tours. Fab meeting you both

This is a great tour of historic castles , and just the right amount of Welsh history. Gareth did a fabulous job and you can tell he is passionate about his country of Wales. I also enjoyed having ample time to explore the various castles. Definitely a must if you come to the Cardiff area! Even tho it was an 8 hour day, it did not feel rushed but relaxed.

This trip was an excellent beginners guide to the history and geography of Wales.
Our guide Gareth was very knowledgable about Welsh history and geography. In fact, he was very knowledgeable, but British and European history in general. He provided many anecdotes about events in Wales past.
His commentary, as we traveled through the Welsh countryside, was a very good addition to the experience. He was very helpful and flexible in dealing with unforeseen circumstances. My wife and I went with Gareth on two consecutive days and on two different tours. I would recommend Garth’s tour for anyone wanting to learn a bit more about Wales.
Response from Host, Apr 2025
Thank you very much Seamus. I enjoyed your company and I learnt a lot from you too.
