Overview

Enjoy a unique adventure on your Riviera Maya vacation: a camel-back ride through jungle, beach and sand dunes. Get up close and personal with these adorable animals that can reach over 6 feet (2 meters) tall: feed them, take pictures, and learn a bunch of fun facts, too. For ease, your package includes a guide, a safety helmet, snacks, bottled water and round-trip transfers, with pickup direct from select hotels.

I loved it! I’m a horsie girl and these beautiful creatures didn’t disappoint although a little different! They’re sweet gentle giants. I also loved how traveling solo was fine, some places make you feel odd about it but this experience no one batted an eye.

We really enjoyed the camel rides but please note you are not allowed to take pictures which kind of ruins the personal experience because they want to charge an arm and a leg to buy their pictures mind you you have already spent alot to ride the camels the guides were still good and what they did but when we finished the activities I did not like how one of the guys kept following us to the end for a tip mind you he wasn’t even our tour guide for the camels , either way we enjoyed it but they need to lower the prices on the pictures it shouldn’t be that high we want to have good memories not get upset because we’re being gouged for every activity that we want to do and we’re telling us we can’t take our phones out to enjoy and share the experience don’t forget we can’t post things on social media that can get friends and family and other strangers to come without being gouged on prices to purchase their pictures. Jet skis I get it we’re on the water something can happen to our devices.

The camel ride was great and it was about 45 minutes in total—getting you on it, stop in the middle for pictures (they took the pictures and disallowed you using your phone or any devices could take pictures or videos). We petted and fed the camels for their treats and then return. Quite quick—we didn’t buy the photos ($150 USD for 2 people package—they asked too much for that). Then we initially wanted to stay and hangout at the beach, and scheduled a later time for shuttle. But this beach club was reserved for its VIP and not us as guests for excursions. The restaurant was in buffet style at an all-day price for $70 per person. We ended up requesting an early shuttle and left. The staff for the shuttle service was not friendly and didn’t want to rebook an earlier shuttle at first. For sure, we would not be back.

Transportation and waiting was horrible!

We spent 6 hours in order to have 45 minutes with the camels. While the employees and the camels were friendly and interesting, it was nowhere close to worth it for a 6 hour excursion!! We knew it would take an hour to get to the location and we expected an hour return. Not only did it take 2 hours to return but we had to wait 2 hours at the location!!! That should have been clearer in booking.

Misleading ad, too expensive, waste of a day

This ad is extremely misleading. The four hour window includes 3 hours of bus travel, 15 minutes of “instruction” and 45 minutes of sitting on a line of camels tied together being guided by a man on foot. The whole camel ride is maybe a quarter mile, we did not go through the jungle at all but that was due to rain from the past week which is understandable. The guides were all great, very friendly and fun. The experience itself was not what was expected at all. We selected the 12:00 option and drove ourselves and were told to meet at the location at 2:30 to register for the event that would start at 3:00. If we had taken the bus, the whole trip would be roughly 6 hours for a 45 minute, quarter mile walk on a camel. They also take pictures that are not included, to be expected. However, one picture was $40 American and for all pictures of one person was $75. We took our own on our phones when we could to avoid paying so much. I cannot stress enough, the guides themselves were great, they are just doing their jobs. The ad itself is very misleading. Had we known what we know now we likely would not have done this trip as it essentially wasted almost an entire day. It’s an hour drive down from where we were, in an Airbnb in the hotel zone in Cancun. If this whole experience was more similar to how it is described or costed significantly less for what it is, I’d recommend it. For the price, you’re far better off taking the ultramar ferry to isla mujeres, renting a golf cart for the day and dominating the island. So much more fun, total cost for ferry for two, to and from, and golf cart for 8 hours was less than $125 and significantly more fun. Also, to be clear, I’m not a whiney Karen, I’m a 30 year old dude just trying to enjoy Mexico, drink tequila and hop around the area going beach to beach. I rarely write reviews about anything but I was very irritated that we wasted a day on this. For your own good, do almost anything else unless you’re already staying at the resort that this is at.

Disrespectful sales tactic - but the camels were nice

Everything was great about seeing and riding the camels EXCEPT that the photographer was taking frequent photos throughout the excursion and to the point that we did not take our own photos. At the end of the tour, we tipped then went to buy a photo. This is when we learned that photos cost $50 USD for 1 photo or alternatively a high amount for the whole series. As we were not willing to pay through the nose, we came away with no decent photos. The staff should have been honest and explained this in advance as I would have been happy to ask the staff to just take a photo of us with my own camera. As well, we could not get easy transport off the property after the camel ride as the driver was unavailable for a long time and there was nothing to do there other than sit in their mediocre restaurant and eat the complementary chips and pop. Fortunately I was able to purchase some guacamole to go with it.

Very Unprofessional

I came on a trip with my girlfriend and her cousin. We had a great time on the camel ride and the staff were very friendly. That unfortunately was the last positive note of this experience. We had pictures taken and were charged $200 for the pictures. We were told we would receive the pictures in 20 minutes. It’s now been over a day and there has been no communication, we have received no pictures and I’ve been trying to get ahold somebody all day. They also gave me a fake email address. Do not get the pictures. The camel ride was fun, but this really killed the experience for us as it was very unprofessional.

This was something I wanted to do since the moment I booked the trip to Cancun. I knew it was something I'd never get to experience anywhere else. The camels are very docile and friendly. Sadly, because of the rain the day before, we couldn't go through the jungle. I was a little taken aback by the Benard asking for a tip as the trip was $125 as it was. Also, they take tons of photos and there were a few good ones but they were $35 a picture, including the frame, but definitely too pricey. Other than that, it's a neat experience.

The whole staff was friendly and knowledgeable, not only about the camels but even the surrounding areas. The photographer took some amazing photos so we bought them all. Everyone else on the tour also had a great time. Loved taking a break during the ride halfway through and took pics with the camels and got to feed them. They changed my itinerary 3xs including the day I was supposed have my activity. When the driver didn’t show at 9am I called them to find out what was going on, they said oh we are changing the time, That was at 9am. I waited until 11am then they didn’t show again and told me to contact Viator for my refund. Such a waste of time, inconsiderate, and a unprofessional!
