John was a great guide. I definitely recommend this tour in you're interested in the history of communism in Romania and Bucharest in particular. Extremely knowledgeable and spoke about personal experiences living under communism in the eighties.

The tour provided so much insight into Bucharest and Romania; insight ranging from the physical layout of the city to past and current political ideas and realities. Our guide, Sylvia, explained how communism shaped present day Bucharest, showing us important landmarks and features. Sylvia’s love for her country and passion for the subject matter infused the tour with energy.
For someone not well versed in Romanian history, the tour provides an exciting entry point into a unique piece of Romania’s past.

This was a surprisingly (to me) enjoyable and (not surprisingly) educational afternoon. Our guide Elena was extraordinary! She is a consummate story teller with personal life experience that she imparts to the potentially dry information she presented. Our family includes two young boys (11 and 13) who are tough to engage but she held them captive! I want to just give as many stars as possible.

My interest in Romania's political history was the main reason for visiting Bucharest, so I had already done my preparatory reading and YT-video watching. This guided tour added the understanding and the personal lived experiences on top of the facts. You really get impression of how the Romanians lived under Ceausescu's version of Communism by going to concrete locations where events happened or that represent characteristics of that political/economis/social system.
The guide (political scientist Andrea) also successfully mixed high level ideological parts of the story & route with low level concrete aspects of communist life, and tragic elements with the more entertaining. In addition you also get insight into post-revolution Romania. All in all a very recommendable activity for visitors to Bucharest.

This a definite “must do”. The story of communism is very fresh here in Bucharest, and the effects of that period are still visible today. Super informative. John, our guide did a great job answering our questions as we walked along the tour.

Great and informative tour with Tudor who told about history before, during and after Communism. All these together made history more alive and "made sense" why Bucharest and Romania are like they are today.

Tudor was a magnificent guide - I could not recommend enough. Exploring the depths of such tumultuous history and broadening my knowledge of this great nation was one of my highlights of my trip to Bucharest. Tudor answered every question with meticulous depth and true passion.

Tudor provided a wonderful narrative of the political and urban development arc of Bucharest since the advent of communism. Walking the streets of Bucharest he brought the eras to life through architecture and urban design.

Very good explanation of the history of communism in Romania, focusing on the 1989 revolution. Our guide Sylvia gave some personal accounts of how life was in those days.

Very interesting tour of Communist-era Bucharest. Silvia was a great guide - interesting, friendly and very passionate about the subject.

Walking tour from Patriarchal Cathedral to Revolution square tracked communism from the start to revolution in Bucharest. Tour guide, Silvia, was very passionate about sharing this information. She had historical photos and lots of information to help us understand the historical and lingering impacts of communism.

Fun and interesting tour to learn more about Romania in the time of communism and how the revolution unfolded.
Richard_O, Apr 2026
An absolutely fantastic walking tour during which we learned a great deal about the history of communism, and the re-emergence from communism, in Romania. Our guide, Andreea, was not only knowledgeable and well- spoken, but she clearly has a passion for the subject. She imparted knowledge while also imbuing her audience with her enthusiasm for learning about this particular time period in Romania. Highly recommend this tour, which met at the front entrance to the Patriarchal Cathedral itself, which is contained in a large estate at the end of an uphill walk along a road on the grounds of the estate.

Very, very interesting. The guide was knowledgeable, friendly and very well prepared. I highly recommend this tour. It brings to light, the experiences of the Romanian people under Communism and it leaves you with a heartfelt appreciation for the people who lived through the challenging Communist era.

This was an interesting and very well informed walking tour through the experience of Bucharest citizens through the communist era. Despite having visited the city before we learned much and enjoyed the guide, Mihai’s style.
yc4rqpgdgk, Apr 2026
This was a wonderful experience and Andrea was very knowledgable of the history of Bucharest, the buildings, and the effect that communism had on the population of Bucharest.
We felt we knew a lot more of the history of Bucharest and the struggles they experienced than we did before we did this tour.
Matthew_D, Apr 2026
Andreea was fantastic! Excellently organised tour and so knowledgeable and passionate about the subject area - I really feel like I gained a lot from the experience!

Another excellent and informative walking tour around Bucharest. Our guide Octavian took us round the city and pointed out the parts that demonstrated what life had been like under Communism, mainly under Ceasescu. It was hugely informative and built on my understanding of Bucharest from doing the walking tour of the Old Town a couple of days before. Octavian was able to convey memories of his childhood growing up under communism and relate the history to us from a Romanian perspective. It was an interesting and passionate tour and definitely worth it.

Had a great experience and tour with Andreea . very in-depth and even gave examples of personal experiences . Weather was terrible but cannot be controlled however Andreea made it worth being out in the rain . She was great and would do the tour again and to gain more insight from Andreeas history and experiences of Communism .
Kevin_C, Mar 2026
Highly recommend. Andreea is a terrific guide. She is very knowledgeable and also very upbeat and friendly. We especially appreciated the stories she shared about her family’s experiences under communism. Our weather was not the best- cold and rainy- but we enjoyed the tour so much we didn’t mind, and Andreea did a great job getting us out of the rain when she could.
