Overview

Since the fall of the Iron Curtain in 1989, many visitors to Romania are intrigued by the country’s recent Communist history. Get a fascinating overview of how Communist rule shaped Bucharest with a full-day thematic city tour of Soviet-era landmarks, like the massive Palace of Parliament, dictator Ceausescu’s former home in the Spring neighborhood, the one-time headquarters of the Communist press and a museum dedicated to political prisoners. It’s a respectful and authentic way to understand this tumultuous chapter in Eastern European history.
  • Full-day tour exploring the legacy of Communist rule in Bucharest
  • Visit the Palace of Parliament, also known as Ceausescu's Palace and the second-largest administrative building in the world
  • See the imposing Spark House, formally the headquarters of the Central Communist Press
  • Stop for lunch at a local restaurant that still retains the atmosphere of Soviet-era Bucharest
  • Travel through the formerly inacccessible neighborhood where dictator Ceausescu and his family once lived
  • Pay tribute to political prisoners and other victims of the brutal regime at a memorial museum
  • Great for history buffs

Michael was awesome. He was very knowledgeable and we could not have asked for a better guide! We highly recommend him and this tour to gain a better understanding of Romanian history. We had lunch at a local restaurant and it was excellent.

Great way to see all the main sites of Bucharest in a day

Kristen_W, Oct 2025
This was a great way to see some of the big tourist sites in Bucharest without worrying about transportation. Our guide Mihae did a great job of telling us about the rise and fall of communism in Romania. He got us to our tours of Ceausescu Residence and the Parliament Building on time and was waiting for us at the end of each tour. Afterwards, he took us on a walking tour of the historic center and we were able to pop into several of the monasteries to have a look around. We really enjoyed our day with Mihae- he's knowledgeable and just a really nice guy.

Learning about the Fall

Jack_C, Jun 2023
The Ceacescu home. Talk about self indulgence! This tour helped put a real face on an incredible story, being the 1989 fall of Communism in Romania. Our tour guide, Marcel, gave very detailed explanations and the tour was well planned.

Best Communism History Tour In Bucharest!

Candace_D, Nov 2021
If you want to get out of your hotel room in Bucharest and are also interested in history/politics - this is a GREAT tour. Romania has a fascinating history. Our guide, Marcel, was an absolutely a wonderful guide to us for the day! He was so polite and full of history/commentary about Romania itself! Was able to see different areas of the city I wouldn’t have seen otherwise. We also were able to see/ride the subway with a local who knew the ropes. I normally don’t ventured into underground Metros that I am not familiar with, but he made us feel safe so all in all it was neat to be able to say I had the experience here in Bucharest. I was a bit under the weather by nightfall and he was kind enough to bring me to the local market as well as the pharmacy. Translating for us for various things helped tremendously! We really enjoyed the restaurant he brought us too. Great food with a pleasant ambiance/pretty view!

Excellent explanations

Our tour guide Nicole had so many stories to tell. I liked the fact that she had old photos of the buildings and places we visited and she also shared with us some of her and her family experiences in communism. She really made the tour come to life.
