There is a great amount of distance between each of the 4 stops. You need to investigate which public transporatation works. There is a lot of walking. Each place has interesting takes on how to do their food. Basically food bites. Klar a has the most amount of food choices but their opening times varying. Check your timing. We were there during times when many of the vendors were closed.

Thank you very much for your detailed and helpful feedback. You are absolutely right — there can be quite some distance between the four stops, and it’s important to check in advance which public transportation options work best. The tour does include a fair amount of walking, so we always recommend comfortable shoes and planning accordingly. We’re glad you enjoyed the different culinary concepts at each location. As you mentioned, Klara offers the widest variety of food options, but opening hours can vary between vendors. Your note about checking the timing carefully is very valuable, especially to avoid visiting during quieter periods when some stands may be closed. Thank you again for sharing your experience — feedback like yours helps future guests prepare better and get the most out of the tour.

POORLY ORGANIZED AND NOT REPRESENTATIVE OF BASEL CUISINE

First, access to the actual 'details' were not available on or through the voucher / texted link. You need to print the details from a PC. Second, there was no indication that there is a 'formal order' that we were supposed to visit the 4 sites in. We had our concierge at the hotel help us locate these 4 spots according to the PC details, and she outlined a 'route' that helped us see the city, but that route was apparently different than what the 'official' route was supposed to be. So, when we got to 'our' 2nd stop, the woman in the store tried to keep our 'new' vouchers (the vouchers from Viator / tripadvisor are NOT the vouchers that you actually use...). Third, the 'available times' for the individual shops is not known until you actually get to the 'first official' stop. Only in the 'real vouchers' that you get at that first stop will it tell you store hours. We got lucky in that the first stop allowed us to actually get our food / beverage, even though we showed up right when they were closing for the day (3:30pm). Finally, other than 1 stop, none of these stops really focused on local fare. In fact, one was a 'food court' with foods from all over other parts of the world. Definitely won't do something like this again with Viator / tripadvisor. Very disappointing.

Dear Brian Thank you for taking the time to send us feedback and letting us know what we can improve. We are truly sorry to hear that the FoodTour didn’t meet your expectations. Our FoodTour gives tourists the opportunity to discover authentic eateries that the locals love, so it does not only focus on the typical Basel cuisine. We recommend people to start at 11 am and to visit the four establishments in a specific order. This order is outlined on the voucher you get at the first stop, as well as on this page: https://www.tripadvisor.ch/AttractionProductReview-g188049-d14045120-Basel_Self_Guided_FoodTour-Basel.html We are sorry if this was not clear enough and we will review the information published on the voucher from TripAdvisor/Viator. Kind regards Aline from Basel Tourism

One of the vendors was rude. Was adamant that her stop was last and tried to keep our cards. Finally just sat them down and said “whatever “

Dear Hugo We sincerely regret this misfortunate incident. We will get in touch with our partner to resolve this issue. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Kind regards Aline from Basel Tourism

Don't waste your time going on this tour

Alan_D, Sep 2021
Total waste of time. We visited two places. The first was very nice. Had a cup of coffee and a slice of pound cake. We were served in the back patio, which was very nice. The second place was a store which is geared towards no waste/recycling. We were each given a small jar and could fill it with nuts, candy, or anything else in the store. It really is for locals to purchase things and bring back their jars to refill. Not sure this should have been on a food tour for tourists. The third place was closed and didn't open until 2:00. We were doing this food tour in the morning and were not going to wait around until 2:00. It was a very long walk to the fourth place so we skipped it. If you are going to go on a food tour, save yourself some hassle and go with a professional guide.

Response from Host, Sep 2021

Dear Alan, we are sorry to hear that you didn’t enjoy the whole experience of our FoodTour. The FoodTour is designed as a self-guided walking tour, giving tourists the opportunity to get to discover Basel’s favourite small local gems, as well as more popular and beloved establishments. We recommend people to start at 11 am, as the third place does not serve hot food between 2 and 6 pm (which means that it is open before 2 am). Starting at the third place, you can reach the fourth place within 10 to 15 minutes by foot. You also have the option to travel by public transport, which is free for guests who stay overnight, or rent an e-bike for just CHF 20 a day. Warm regards Aline from Basel Tourism

Basel - ein multikulturelles Miteinander

Andrea_und_Claudio, Jul 2021
