I enjoyed hearing about the history of Basel, along with learning the process of cheese and chocolate production. I loved all the sameples. Our tour guide, Coco, was friendly and made sure to answer any questions people had.

This was a very good tour. Alejandro was knowledgeable and made the tour interesting and fun. Especially enjoyed the chocolate and cheese tasting.

Found out the Information for the meeting place stated on the ticket was wrong. We were told that the correct information was in an email 5 months ago. Unfortunately, we followed the the information on the ticket thinking it was the updated information. As a result, we never got the experience and was told there was no refund.

This tour does require some walking and includes a visit to the historic part of the city. The farmer’s market is rather small.

It was wonderful. The guide was extremely knowledgeable. Trying different pastry, cheese, and learning the process into making the chocolate was very interesting. Then tasting the chocolate beans and then the chocolate...yummm!

Be very careful with this tour operator. Highly recommend you book with someone other than Tours of Switzerland. We never were able to go on the tour due to partial cancellation by tour operator the day before the tour. We requested a refund but tour operator has not answered any emails nor made any contact. We paid in excess of $400 for four guests and now see that Viator offers almost the identical tour for approx. $45 per person. Email to tour operator was as follows:
When we met our guide on Aug 17 at 10:00 am we were told that due to the pouring rain with lightening and thunder in the background the farmer's market at the Marktplatz would be closed and was not an option for the tour. As shown below the chocolate and cheese portion of the tour had already been cancelled the day before. Effectively, all the tour highlights listed in the itinerary were either cancelled or closed. The guide and our group of four agreed that it would be futile to start the tour given the severe weather conditions and realizing that none of the highlights of the tour were available. Therefore, we are asking for a full refund of the tour cost. Please initiate the procedure to get a full refund.

Travelers should thoroughly review the meeting point information. The meeting point information accompanying the ticket was different from the location on the map. Description said Marktplatz while map said 16 St. Alban Graben. So we missed the tour. Also we could not contact the tour guide as we didn’t have his contact information and he apparently didn’t have ours. Overall, very poor communication and logistics process by Viator. Not what we’ve come to expect from Viator.

The best part of this tour was the cheese and chocolate part. Alejandro was very knowledgeable, personable and fun to listen to. I liked the history and process of cheese making as well as tasting the various types of cheese. I was happy that he explained all the ingredients that he used to make the chocolate as I normally cannot eat milk chocolate. The city tour part of the tour was MEH… There was no accommodation for my allergy although it was clearly given months in advance. (Other food tours had substituted safe foods available).

Your started out well through the first food tasting at the bakery but went downhill from there. The guide was on her phone quite a bit after that. Took the trolley to a cheese tasting room across town, then another trolley to a chocolate tasting. The chocolate tasting location seemed surprised we were there. The guide left before the tasting started disappeared. We had to navigate ourselves back to where the tour began.

Do NOT book this tour. My ticket gave conflicting meeting point addresses. We messaged our tour guide 45 minutes before the tour asking fir meeting place confirmation. They didn't respond, I tred to call twice without answer. After chatting with Viator they contacted the your guide 20 minutes into the tour. We paid over $200 USD to spend nearly 2 hours trying to join this tour. I requested a refund it was denied. I've visited many countries and booked many tours as this without issue. I would like my money refunded.

This was an excellent walking tour of Basel. Gina, our guide, was terrific. She was very knowledgeable and overall a wonderful guide. The tour took us through the farmers market, which was right across from the historic and architecturally beautiful Basel city hall, then into the old city part of Basel. Gina pointed out and explained lots of beautiful details on the buildings, many of which are centuries old. We ended with a delicious cheese and chocolate tasting. Once again, Gina showed her expertise on both. It was a leisurely walk and not very strenuous. Overall it was terrific, definitely 10/10. Highly recommended!

Disappointed with the entire experience. We stopped at one pastry were given a pastry to go. We did not realize we would be going to a cheese and chocolate that gave tiny portions. Not worth the cost. Seemed like it was more about small tastes so we would buy more from the guide.

My wife and I had a very bad experience with this tour guide comparing with the Italy Naples food tour which we enjoyed so much a few years ago. First of all, the instruction and direction to the meeting place was not clear. The Google map link provided was different from the meeting place description. Secondly, the tour guide did not have a sign "Viator" or something, so we had no way to identify her is the tour guide. Thirdly, she only took us to one pastry shop, then she walked our group away from the marketplace and took us to her cheese and chocolate shop. She gave us samples to try and kept asking us to buy some, which I think is conflict of interest. Finally, according to the description of this tour, she supposed to take us back and dismissed us at the same pickup place, but she did not. She just let us leave her shop and provided direction. Very very bad experience!

Not what I had expected. Meeting time amongst the three couples were different and meeting location were different. Tour guide was not easily spotted as she did not carry any flags or tour guide clothing to make her stand out. Had expected to visit more than one pastry, cheese, and chocolate shops. We got one pastry each and each couple shared a small bag of bakery good. We went to the tour guide’s business to sample cheese and chocolate. This is just not what I had envision of a food tour.

The tour operator did not show up and provided no notice whatsoever. I waited over 30 minutes and attempted to contact them multiple times, with no response. This level of unreliability is unacceptable. I have requested a full refund and expect it to be honored. This was a very disappointing and unprofessional experience.

Walking the cobblestone streets allows you to see 400-500 yr old shops up close. But learning about the process to make fantastic cheeses and chocolate truffles is mind blowing. Then eating the treasures is just perfection.

Good value tour combining pastry, cheese and chocolate tasting plus some key history of Basel and its architecture. We tasted some amazing local produce, some of which we decided to purchase, because it was really good. There was no pressure to buy.
The only negative is that the directions to the meeting point for the tour in the Viator App are wrong and need to be fixed. It took us 15 mins to locate our group as we were in the wrong place on the other side of the marketplace.
