Top Basel Food & Drink Classes in 2026

There are lots of great chocolate-tasting tours in Basel, but what if you want to go a little deeper into this side of the city’s culinary culture? This hands-on workshop takes you from the origins of cacao beans to the making of tasty chocolate bars and truffles. And yes, there’s plenty of time to taste too.

This tour offers more than a simple stroll through Basel it’s a deep dive into the rich and fascinating world of Swiss chocolate. As you explore the charming streets of Basel, you’ll be guided through the story of chocolate: from its ancient origins to its arrival in Europe, and finally, to how Switzerland became the world’s chocolate capital. You won’t just visit typical tourist spots. Instead, you’ll step inside carefully selected artisan chocolate shops, where you’ll taste the difference between silky, handcrafted confiserie and bold, bean-to-bar creations made entirely in-house. Each location tells a different chapter of Switzerland’s chocolate evolution—some preserving age-old recipes, others redefining the future of chocolate with innovation and ethical sourcing. Led by a knowledgeable and passionate local guide, you’ll gain insider access and insights that most visitors miss.

Think of Swiss food, and the dish that you’ll think of (no doubt) is cheese fondue. So, when you’re in Basel, swap the tourist food for a dinner of traditional Swiss food instead where fondue and Basler bread are the signature bites. Even better: This small-group dinner experience takes place in the cozy ambience of a host’s private home, allowing you to live some local Basel culture while you’re in town.

Don’t just limit your culinary explorations of Basel to restaurants—instead, enjoy a more hands-on experience than most other travelers get with this private cooking class. Learn to create classic Italian dishes, such as focaccia, sourdough pizza, and tiramisu, all with the guidance of your hosts. Finally, sit down for a shared meal, including an aperitif, a selection of Swiss and Italian wines, and your homemade dishes.
