What To Expect
After pickup from selected Lisbon hotels, you’ll board an air-conditioned minivan destined for the start of your scenic horse riding route. When you arrive at your departure point, admire panoramic coastal views from the top of cliffs smothered in prehistoric fossils.
Climb onto your trusty steed and begin exploring the scenery at a relaxed canter. Trot parallel to the Atlantic Coast and then choose to enjoy traditional Portuguese dishes on the beach, at your own expense.
Your tour concludes with drop-off at your original departure point in Lisbon.

- This trail goes along a pine forest and a beach area . Riders must come comfortably dressed and without slippers on the feet. Sun protect can be advisable for people with more sensitive skin. For more safety we have different sizes of helmets to borough. We offer bottles of water. According to our concept of natural horsemanship, in which we privilege the mutual respect between horse and rider, we hope that it will be a moment of sharing and happiness for the whole group.
- All participants must accept a liability agreement that exempts the operator from any liability in the event of an accident
- For a small part of the route it may be necessary to climb a steep and narrow cliff between trees, but there are alternative routes.
- Not recommended for children up to 12 years old without much experience

It was a beautiful ride, but we were unable to canter/gallop as advertised despite being experienced riders. A bit disappointing, but the beach was beautiful and the horses were wonderful.
Carlos was a great host/coordinator.

Such a beautiful experience for our family during the Christmas holiday. This experience was our gift. The park, accessing the beach was gorgeous, and the beach itself was pristine. Carlos and Paulo were incredible hosts, and the photographer was amazing. 10/10 would do this again.

Booked this as a birthday surprise for my husband and it really was the highlight of our trip. Carlos and Tiago picked us up at our hotel and were really warm and welcoming. The beach is incredibly stunning and Antonio our guide and his horses were gentle and highly experienced. I cannot stress how important it is to have had prior experience riding and being comfortable around horses as the trail to the beach might be daunting to a first timer who has no clue what they are doing. This was a really fantastic experience that I would recommend to anyone. One that we would love to do again anytime we are back in Lisbon.

Starting with the communication/pick up from Carlos, all the way to the 2 guides we had on our trip along the beach, everything easily surpassed our expectations. I had virtually no experience in this area but I felt safe and comfortable 100% of the time due to our guides expertise and supervision. Couldn't ask for more, highly recommend.

This was truly the most AMAZING horseback riding experience I’ve had. I’ve ridden horses for most of my life (competitively), and always dreamed of riding on the beach. Unlike most trail riding experiences (where you slowly walk through woods for an hour), Watermelon Experiences catered to each rider’s level of comfort which allowed for a wonderful day.
Carlos picked us up from our hotel and showed us a couple of gorgeous scenic places (on the way to where our ride started), while telling us about some of Lisbon’s history. He was incredibly welcoming and engaging from the very beginning. We then met up with Antonio and his horses, as well as another couple (and Jorge) who we became fast friends with! Our ride started out in a beautiful forest, then we made our way onto the beach. The beach was expansive and nearly empty - gorgeous blue ocean on one side and beautiful rock formations/canyons on the other. The horses knew exactly what they were doing, scaling some steep terrain with ease (never felt unsafe). Most of our ride was trotting and walking, but towards the end Antonio said “let’s go gallop” and it was nothing short of WONDERFUL. Seriously, I’m still smiling thinking about it. While we were galloping along the beach, some of the others in our group stayed put and rested/rehydrated for a few minutes (each saddle pad had a pretty spacious bag where we were provided water bottles - you could keep your camera in there too). We then made our way up through some gorgeous little winding trails with overarching branches, and found ourselves at the starting point - Carlos and Jorge were waiting to welcome us back. We then took a final group picture and headed back to our hotel.
I can’t thank Carlos enough for making this such a memorable experience - he and Antonio knew my comfort level riding and made sure I got some galloping time in, while also making sure everyone had a safe experience.
We even met up with the other couple for drinks downtown that evening - such a PERFECT day.
Please do yourself a favor and book this experience!! On our next trip back to Lisbon, we’re definitely doing it again.

Carlos, Mariana, and Antonio (guide) were amazing! We had gotten a late start leaving our apartment, then proceeded to get lost, and Carlos continually checked on us on WhatsApp to make sure we made it to the meeting place. And they were all gracious and warm despite our being late. In addition, while following Carlos after meeting at an intermediate waypoint, we encountered an injured mountain biker down in the middle of the road and even though we were around an hour late, Carlos still stopped to offer assistance never once rushing to ensure the well-being of the downed cyclist.
We opted for the beach tour and it was amazing completely exceeding our expectations. The ride started with a half-hour through national forest and broke out onto the beach after a slightly harrowing stretch down a road with cars which fortunately was only a few hundred meters. The beach was gorgeous with cliffs to one side and expansive sand shots to the other. Riding along the beach accounted for a good majority of the ride and was super peaceful. We thought we’d go into the water but that didn’t happen. We are novices and I don’t know if that played a part in us not being led into it. We highly recommend Watermelon Experiences for the personal attention and care Carlos displayed. The horses were just exciting enough and the beach route is gorgeous as it combined forest with sea and surf views. Definitely not to be missed! Thank you Carlos, Mariana, and Antonio!

This was a wonder experience to view parts of Lisbon which I would have never know were available. The country side was beautiful and Carlos and Antonio were extremely professional.

This is a tour worth doing if you want to take a break from the typical tours made by most tourists of Lisbon. Our guide was very helpful and accomodating. the horses were a bit skittish, however and not easy to ride given the flies that were attracted to them in the summer sun. i believe they were arabians, which are known to not be the most simple to ride for a novice. also, you spend a fair amount of time riding on pavement. if you choose to go horseback riding, i would definitely recommend riding on the beach and making sure all parties going riding are into horses and feel safe on them. Nice people for sure, just know exactly what you are getting into.
