This is a no rush, informative, amazing adventure! Felt like I stepped into a postcard. It was a highlight of our trip! Unlike other glacier excursions I saw that some took, these area pilots are respectful of the individual experience, meaning multiple helicopters are not stopping at your location while you are there. 10 out of 10!

The staff was incredibly friendly, and the scenery was absolutely stunning. There were just two of us along with the pilot, which made the experience feel very personal. The day was crystal clear, allowing us to see the mountains stretching far into the distance. The pilot even guided us on a walk across the glacier, making it an unforgettable adventure.

Overview

Go on an outdoor adventure in Alaska with this small-group helicopter tour with glacier landing. Take off on a scenic flight and admire views of the Knik River on the way to the Knik Glacier. Land directly on or near the glacier (depending on the season) and set out on a guided glacier or ice formation hike before the return flight. Keep an eye out for wildlife such as moose, bears, and mountain goats.

This activity ends back at the meeting point.

Itinerary

Make your own way to the meeting point, which is at a lodge outside Anchorage, or arrange pickup (additional fee) ahead of time. Give yourself plenty of time and check in 45 minutes before your scheduled departure time.

Meet your guide and small group and board the helicopter. Soar over the astonishing wild Alaskan landscape of mountains, rivers, glaciers, and gorges before landing on the Knik Glacier. Embark on a guided hike over the glacier.

If you book the tour in winter, between October and April, it may not be possible to land on top of the glacier due to snow cover so you’ll land next to the glacier, near massive ice formations, instead.

Your tour ends with a flight back to the lodge.

Alaska Helicopter Tours has Robinson 44s and ASTAR helicopters. We never guarantee the type of helicopter you will be flying in unless a private helicopter option is purchased. Parties with multiple separate bookings, or parties over 2 passengers may be in 2 helicopters, but will always be together for the tour.

An Unforgettable Helicopter Tour with the Kindest Guide Ashley! This Alaska helicopter glacier tour was absolutely breathtaking—stunning glaciers and getting up close to the icy wilderness! The glacier view was beautiful and unforgettable! But what made the experience even more amazing was my guide’s incredible thoughtfulness and responsibility. I accidentally left a pair of my shoes in the locker after the tour and only realized it once I was on my way back. I reached out to the team with little hope of getting them back, but my guide went out of their way to find my shoes, keep them safe, and even helped coordinate to bring them to me. Throughout the tour, Ashley making sure everyone felt at home the whole time. To go above and beyond their duties to help a forgetful traveler like me? That’s the kind of service that makes a trip truly special. I couldn’t have asked for a better tour team. If you’re planning a helicopter tour here, I’ll definitely recommend this to friends!

Absolutely breath taking experience! Complete 10/10 ! Our pilot was so fun & knowledgeable. He was very informative while telling us some of the history of the glaciers & mountains. He incorporated a lot of thrill into the flight while also maintaining a 100% safe environment! He was so willing to help take really good photos of my girlfriend & I. Weather prevented us from having our experience. That being said, the staff were extremely friendly, professional, and helpful. We were refunded not only for the helicopter ride, but also for the shuttle that took us out there. That they took our safety into consideration over profits was one of the reasons that we would book with Viator again.

This was the most amazing thing to see. It was easy to book the experience, staff was wonderful. Our Pilot was phenomenal - and took so many pictures. We chose the 1 landing option. He asked us what we were most interested in seeing and we told him the blue pools and he found a perfect spot to sit down in the midst of some pools and explained a lot about what we were seeing and the depth of the frozen pools that we were looking at You couldn’t have asked for more on the ride back he was able to point out many different wild animals there was the Dahl sheep, black, bear, and moose and a swan!

This tour was the best thing we did on our trip (and the trip still isn’t over yet but I can say that with confidence). The helicopter ride was spectacular. The views kept changing and we felt safe the entire time. You can totally trust this team! Sam was an amazing pilot! He pointed out moose and swans. He took us to the BEST spot and it was way higher than another company’s helicopter was located. We had around 20+ minutes to explore the glacier and he took us hiking to some cool spots. They provided crampons. Highly recommend. My son had the time of his life!

We had such an awesome experience on this tour. Even just pulling up to the heli pad landing is such a beautiful view. And then getting onto the helicopter and traveling the glacier and actually LANDING on it and walking on it with snow pick boots was a blast! It looks surreal. Due to logistics, our family of 4 did this trip on the last day of our Alaskan vacation, which was risky since weather could have caused it to be canceled with no day to reschedule. However, I am glad this was last because no other Alaskan experience could have topped this! Our pilots (Trevor and Wyatt) were amazing, and it felt like we had the whole glacier to ourselves. This was such an amazing experience. Once in a lifetime opportunity. The helicopter ride to the glacier alone was enough to make the tour worth the cost, but landing on the glacier and exploring around took this tour over the top. Staff were friendly and helpful. Pilot provided a lot of interesting information and guided the whole experience perfectly. Would highly recommend. Definitely a bucket list tour.
