It was really something....

It was really something. We had a rough start to the trip — we got food poisoning at our hotel in Cusco and were afraid we wouldn't be able to handle the two-day journey. But the organization and the guides were simply wonderful. The first day's locations alone were worth the entire cost of the trip — stunningly beautiful places, a delicious lunch, and a great guide. At night we reached a lovely little town tucked away among the cliffs — Aguas Calientes. It was magical. In the morning we climbed up to Machu Picchu, and that was the highlight of the whole trip. Everything was organized to the highest standard. Rayza and her colleagues did a wonderful job. Thanks a lot!

Great trip combination for Machu Picchu

We are independent travelers and thought about organizing transport and a tour of Machu PIcchu on our own, but after studying this for a while, we decided a package tour would be a better choice, so after shopping around, we settled on Viator. Booking the tour was pretty easy, and we got good information from the local tour operators (via WhatsApp—if you don’t have that app, you should when you are traveling in S. America). As communicated, a van picked us up at our hotel bright and early in the day. We then picked up the other tour members in town, then headed for Ollantaytembo where we would transfer to the train. The roads were okay, but had a number of landslide detours, so we were really glad to not be driving ourselves. We got to the station with just enough time, so headed right to our coach. The view from the train was super, but have to admit that the panorama windows on the roof weren’t super useful—not sure it was worth the extra money. We did have a bit of a show enroute to our next stop, but only food for sale (I thought we got snacks on that part of the trip). We arrived at Aguas Calientes on time, were met by a local guide (Miguel?) who conducted us to our bus up the hill (2,000 feet up) on a road that was probably barely wide enough for a single car, but questionable for a bus and REALLY not wide enough for two busses to pass LOL. We arrived at Machu Picchu just before our scheduled entry time and were introduced to our tour guide, Roiny or “Roy” who turned out to be a great tour guide (as well as a mountain guide and a mountain climber, so we had a lot in common). Sadly as we arrived at MP, my wife started to not feel well (not altitude) but Roy took that in stride and was very patient and kind to her as we took a LOT of breaks. We had requested Circuit 2, but when we arrived, we were issued tickets for Circuit 1, so a little disappointed, but we labored up the hill to the viewpoint. As we at the viewpoint, Roy asked us some questions and checked and found out that we had been ticketed for both Circuits 1 (the viewpoint) and 2 (the settlement) so he took us back down and then out on Circuit 2 and into the old town—the experience we had wanted. We walked the site, viewing the amazing buildings, seeing llamas walking around, and even a chinchilla hanging out. Finally we were out of time (and needed a bathroom) so it was time to leave. Roy escorted us to the exit, helped us to board the bus, and even recommended a place for dinner. Roy is nothing less than OUTSTANDING. We boarded our train to leave, with a 2 hour ride in the dark to Ollantaytembo, then met our driver who put us on the van for a 90 minute ride to Cusco, arriving around 11 pm—about a 17 hour day. The trip was hard with a lot of connections, but it was a spectacular tour experience!

Beautiful Rainbow Mountain

The tour was well coordinated, and everything worked like clock work. We started very early and was picked up precisely when he said he would. He made sure we were first at getting to each point. In my opinion breakfast and lunch was satisfactory. The journey is long but worth it. The landscape is so breath taking, beautiful rivers and streams, llamas and alpacas roaming and grazing on the mountain side. Reaching the ATV point, this was such a fun and quick way to get up to the mountain to start the trek. It's coordinated well and helmets are included. Gets a bit dusty, but fun, our tour guide monitored us throughout the way. Starting the trek I had a hard time, trekking up and being from the Caribbean where country is sea level, the thin air was affecting me, I did make it up without the help of oxygen, which the tour guide had on his person. I just rested as I ascended up. It was worth it. The colors of the mountain is very unique, snow caps all around, mountains as far as your eyes can see...what not to love. There were lots of tourists. The famous llamas were there as well probably getting more attention an the colorful mountains, it's all part of the experience. All in all very great experience one we will never forget and very proud of making it up to see the Rainbow Mountain.

Wonderful trip from Cusco

I was so grateful that all the logistics of getting to Machu Picchu and obtaining a guide and tickets were handled. Everything was perfect. Our driver picked us up precisely at the designated time (5am in Cusco) and drove us to the train station. From there we traveled on the Peru Rail Vistadome…we were so fortunate that it was us and a handful of other travelers on the train. We rested, had snacks and were invited to the back of the train to take pictures and listen to regional music. Once we arrived at Aquas Calientes, our local guide was waiting for us right outside the station. He guided us to the bus line up to Macchu Picchu. It was about 30 minutes up the mountain and he then managed us through the entry lines. All our tickets (train, bus and Macchu Picchu) were previously emailed to us the day before. (Also we booked this 6 months ahead of our trip) Our guide was awesome and after 2 plus hours in Macchu Picchu, we were back in the town. He directed us to a local restaurant and gave us directions on boarding our train back to Cusco. Other than a train delay, it was an effortless day and a truly valuable experience to have all the details and tickets handled for us. It was a long day- not going to lie- but truly worth it if you time is limited and you just want everything taken care of for you.

The best Machu Picchu tour with Julio

This was the best tour. Julio was great from start to finish. He knew a lot about Machu Picchu, but explained everything in a relaxed and interesting way, not like a rehearsed lecture. He was patient, easy to talk to, and made sure we stopped at the best spots for pictures. He also took some really good photos of us. We had an amazing day and would definitely recommend him.

Awesome immersive experience

Our guide/chef Carlos was awesome. He gave us the history behind the food as well as how they use it now. He took us through the San Pedro market, showing and sampling all the foods we were getting. During the class he was super informative in each step of the process. 2 cocktails, 3 dishes, and a dessert! Absolutely worth it!

Very informative and laid back tour. jose was a great guide - We learned a lot about the different ruins and never felt rushed, we even fit in an additional pit stop. The alpaca sanctuary at the end was a blast and we learned the difference between different sheering years and how to spot fake alpaca wool.

Very good customer service

We are a group of 4. We booked the trip 3 months before the trip, and they immidiately got the tickets for us, they reached out to us regarding the available route, and we wanted a circuit 2 ticket but unfortunately was sold out that day, and told us the earliest available day which is a few days apart than our intended day, so we made arrangement and we got the tickets!!! Before the day of pick up they sent instructions for the trip. We were picked up on time on our hotel on a private car. Our guide gary was very knowledgeable and guide us every step of our way. He even walk with us to the train and to the hotel. The hotel on aguas calliente has a very good location. It is near the station and the shops. Good river view and good breakfast selection. The machu picchu trip was amazing as always, but our guide gary is very knowledgeable and also knows where the good photo spots are and also offered to take our pictures. He was very helpful. And if we ever need something their customer service is just 1 message away. They respond easily. Like for example when we got out of the train we couldnt find the driver and they coordinated with him. All in all very good customer service and very good guide! Would recommend to my friends.
