Itinerary
Stroll with your guide from Piazza Barberini to the nearby Capuchin Crypt, where the mummified remains of Capuchin friars await. While listening to an audio guide, you’ll explore labyrinthine tunnels, hearing about the 18th-century monks who created the macabre surrounds.
Having piqued your interest in Rome’s quirkier sights, you’ll continue to the Domitilla Catacombs. It’s one of Rome’s largest catacomb sites, but you’ll find its standout frescoes and early Christian symbols quickly with your guide.
Next, comes a church that’s off the usual tourist trail. The Basilica dei Santi Silvestro e Martino ai Monti sits on top of ancient Roman ruins, and a look inside reveals layers of religious history. After admiring Baroque-era frescoes, an underground early Christian chapel, and more, your tour ends back at Piazza Barberini or by the Basilica of San Nicola in Carcere.
To experience Rome’s catacombs without the daytime crowds, upgrade to the evening after-tours tour instead.

Very interesting. Our guide Maryam was amazing. Funny and interacting and very knowledgeable. The catacombs are really cool
Rhys_W, May 2026
Great experience. Great guides. Would highly recommend for anyone in the area. Superb value for money.
Elaine_B, May 2026
Seemed disorganized, really didn’t need a guide to go to the crypts. Went in without the guide and saw everything so why use a guide? Bus that took us to catacombs was late and had to walk quite a distance to get to it. The guide at the catacombs was good though. I wouldn’t waste my money buying this tour. Do it on your own.

Dear Elaine_B,
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We genuinely apologize that your experience did not meet expectations, and we appreciate you bringing these matters to our attention. While we understand your frustration regarding the crypts, the authorities who manage the site strictly dictate that all indoor exploration must be self-guided, which unfortunately limits how much our guides can manage inside that specific area. We are also actively addressing the bus delay and the walking distance with our transport team to ensure smoother, more punctual transfers for future guests. We are glad that you enjoyed the guided portion of your visit at the catacombs, and we will pass your compliments along to that guide. Your insights are incredibly valuable to us as we work to improve our services.

Maria was the best tour guide I have ever had. She really seemed like she got to know each of us and she made the tour not just education but fun too! She was the perfect person to take us through the catacombs. You can also see her passion in the topics when she talks.

This was a really interesting tour to take and was very worth it to us. There were three locations and you got decent time at each. You were given an audio guide at the crypts and if you like to stop and listen to everything this tour doesn’t give you enough time to do that, but I felt we had enough time to see the museum and admire the pieces even without the full time for the audioguide.
The catacombs and basilica were also just really amazing pieces of history to see and learn about. Both of these locations did have some slightly more challenging steps and whatnot, so be prepared for that. Nothing crazy, my mom just has a bad ankle and it was a little difficult but doable for her to navigate.
Maria was an excellent and high energy tour guide for such an odd and slightly dark topic tour! From the moment we arrived she wanted us to have fun and enjoy ourselves. She was also very knowledgeable about a very long history.

Fede was a fantastic guide leading us through each location of the tour. I do wish we had a little more time at the Capuchian crypts and museum, as it felt rushed. However, I understand there was a lot to cover for the overall tour including time to transfer to each location. I found each of our 3 stops to be fascinating and Fede was so very knowledgeable and her enthusiasm radiated making it a wonderful experience. This is 1 of the only tours we booked for an afternoon time slot and I feel that was OK because the crowds at each stop were minimal compared to many of the other historical highlights in Rome like the Colosseum and the Vatican, etc. Highly recommended by me.

Children may find the crypt disturbing, most adults find it fascinating. Catacombs are not for the claustrophobic. They are very interesting. Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly.
Ian_S, May 2026
The three sites were all very interesting, but Alexandra, our guide, prided a wonderful commentary throughout the tour, which made it very special.
Andrew_M, May 2026
Got to see a small museum and learn a bit from an audio guide, then got driven to the catacombs. The tour guide at the catacombs was excellent and very informative. We really liked that part of the tour the most. Meet up and drop off was seamless!
Ciara_C, May 2026
I would not say that there's any benefit to the after hours booking, as there's no major difference in what you are offered or the number of people present. My tour guide was nice, but you're really just getting the transport between two locations from her with a little bit of commentary. In the Crypt of the Capuchins, you go in on your own and listen to an audio tour. In the Catacombs of Priscilla, you get a Vatican tour guide since they own these Christian burial sites. If you're comfortable getting around on your own, it's cheaper and just as good to do these two sites on your own.
Response from Host, May 2026
Dear Ciara_C,
We sincerely apologize that the experience did not meet your expectations.
We understand your disappointment, as we aim to provide a unique atmosphere that feels distinct from the standard daytime crowds. Regarding the structure of the tour, we appreciate your feedback on the commentary and the transition between the sites.
Your honest insights about the value of the transport and logistics are very helpful, and we will review how we communicate the benefits of this specific booking to ensure it meets our guests' expectations.
Best regards.

Maria is an awesome guide. Highly recommend.
The crypts and catacombs were unique!
Really worth doing
Austin_R, May 2026
Really great trip here. Super creepy at times. I didn't read the description...just knew I wanted to go to the catacombs to see where the early Christ-followers had been buried. I would go to this again. Really great. The trip was in 3 parts. The first was the creepy part - some group of monks had taken some bones of early Christians and done some strange artwork with them. You'll never see anything like that again except maybe in a haunted house. The guide was great all the way through and knowledgable, but not over-intense. He was light and made the trip fun and sometimes funny. The catacombs were awesome...worth the trip. Then a 3rd stop was at an old church with an even MUCH older house under it. Cool stop showing how the early church met. Great excursion. I highly recommend it!

Gary_V, May 2026
Great guides and the activities were so interesting. Wish we can could have see more of the catacombs it was a little short.
Jennifer_R, May 2026
Alain was a great tour guide…funny and extremely knowledgeable! Learned so much about Roman history and visiting the catacombs is a must see!
Victoria_V, May 2026
We had a great tour with Ale! She was such a knowledgeable guide and her passion for art and history was evident in her tour. We booked this tour to see the catacombs. They were very interesting and we learned parts of Roman history that you don’t always hear about. But in addition to the catacombs we saw the capuchin crypts and that was really astonishing (no spoilers here!). Finally we visited an old church that had been excavated to show the ancient home underneath the church! Ale also gave us great aperitivo and dinner recommendations! Great tour overall!
TammySilverthorne, May 2026
Alain was a fantastic guide. His passion for and knowledge about the places we visited was exceptional.
Eileen_H, May 2026

Andrea was very knowledgeable and spoke English well. Alan, another guide was also very knowledgeable and spoke while we were passing landmarks along the way to the catacombs.
Jeanne_R, May 2026
Great tour and very informative. Learned a lot and new information very well organized. The tour directors were great.
Mary_J, May 2026
Amelia I our guide was very knowledgeable and humorous which made the tour even better! Organized activity with close up viewing opportunities! : )
Kathy_E, Apr 2026
Excellent guide who was excited about the subject and transferred it to the group! Very interesting and different tour. Would definately recommend.
Chris_C, Apr 2026
Add this to your trip to Rome. This tour is better than the Catacombs only tour because you see and learn about crypts and culture about burial in the ancient times
Michelle_G, Apr 2026
Very cool. You can go at your own pace in the main crypt at the end which is nice given the small space.
Cindy_F, Apr 2026
Around 3 hours, walking around the Crypts, catacombs and Church. Our guide Sabina was very knowledgeable and had a lot of anecdotes. She was attentive and lovely. Pick up location is different to the drop off location.
