Amazing tour. 100% would recommend. Vatican, Sistine Chapel, Basilica...all phenomenal. Stick around at the end and do the extra trek up the Basilica, it was the perfect end to the experience. Our tour guide, Georgio, was knowledgeable, funny and friendly. Cant say enough good things about him and the tour.

Awesome tour and very knowledgeable and fun guide - Leonardo. As he rightfully warned us - it was A LOT of information! Almost wish we had enough time to break the tour up into 2-3 days - the museums and the Sistine chapel as well as St. Pete’s Basilica were incredible. St. Pete’s should be a whole experience on its own - it’s magnificent! Grazie millie Leonardo!

Itinerary

The UNESCO World Heritage-listed Vatican Museums are visited by huge numbers of people each day, but with this handy Vatican tour—which includes priority access—bypass the worst of the crowds by entering with your guide through an exclusive entranceway.

The halls and rooms of the museum complex comprise miles of historic art and antiquities, but you go straight to the highlights, such as the Gallery of the Tapestries, the Gallery of the Maps, and the Pinecone Courtyard.

Continue to the Sistine Chapel, home of two of the most important frescoes of the Italian Renaissance. Learn about Michelangelo’s "The Last Judgement" and "The Creation of Adam" from outside the chapel (no talking inside), then head on in to admire the frescoes in person.

Follow your guide into St. Peter’s Basilica to see "La Pietà," another Michelangelo masterpiece, and learn about Bernini’s bronze altar. You can stay inside St. Peter’s Basilica after your tour ends, or head outside to St. Peter’s Square, where your tour ends.

Informative Tour, but Audio Equipment Needs Improvement

Carmen_B, May 2026
Overall, this was a wonderful opportunity for a well-structured and informative tour. Our group was small — two families, ten adults in total — which made for an intimate and manageable experience. That said, the audio experience was a notable challenge. A combination of the guide's strong Italian accent and the limited quality of the earpiece devices made it difficult to follow the commentary throughout. There were also moments when nearby conversations were picked up and echoed through the audio system, adding to the confusion. Conservatively, I would estimate that our group absorbed only about half of what was being communicated, which was a missed opportunity given how knowledgeable our guide clearly was. We would encourage tour organizers to invest in higher-quality audio equipment, as this single improvement would significantly elevate the overall experience and allow guests to fully appreciate the depth of knowledge being shared.

Knowledgeable, informative tour

Susanna_D, May 2026
Easy to find tour guide and very informative, friendly tour guide. Great way to see the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel and St Basil. Hardly had to wait- skip the line tour so worth it!!

Fantastic guide!

Julie_W, May 2026
Sophia was an incredible guide, knowledgeable and composed. The Vatican was super crowded that day, but she navigated our group through it and did an amazing job. The tour was so interesting, with St. Peter’s Basilica our favorite part. We were grateful to have booked with a group, because navigating it on our own wound have been very challenging.

Meh…

Kim_W, May 2026
A LOT of standing around. No bathroom break. Over 3 hours in, we had to leave the tour group to find a restroom, then try to find them again. The headphones would not stay on anyone’s ear. So we all just held it to our ear with hand. Our tour guide, although friendly and knowledgeable, was difficult to understand, with a very thick accent

Response from Host, May 2026

Dear Kim_W, Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that some aspects of the tour did not meet your expectations. We appreciate your comments regarding the pacing, comfort of the headsets, and restroom access, and we will certainly take them into consideration. We are, however, pleased to hear that you found the guide friendly and knowledgeable.

Kelsey_H, May 2026
The semiprivate tour is definitely the way to go to have a better quality experience. My Tour guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about the art and history we experienced and it made the trip very memorable. I would recommend to anyone!

Excellent Tour

Coleen_M, May 2026
It is 3 hours long but SO GOOD! The museum is incredible. We actually stayed in the Basilica a bit lo ger a d went down to St. Peter's tomb. Incredible.

This is the tour to take!

Laura_W, May 2026
Highly recommend this tour! Iman was a fantastic tour guide and was masterful at finding the best spots and taking pictures of anyone who wanted their picture taken. He is also a great storyteller and incredibly knowledgeable. With the amount of visitors, it was really nice to be able to have a guide to walk you through the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica.

5 Stars for Paula H

Elizabeth_K, May 2026
We enjoyed our “semi-private” tour with Paula H. She was knowledgable and delightful! The tour is interesting and keeps moving. I put quotation marks around the semi-private part because once you enter the museum, you’re surrounded by hundreds of friends. So although your group is small, you really only get a few minutes in each section. And it’s crowded. Not really enough time to really enjoy what you are seeing. This is NOT Paula’s fault or anyone else’s really, just thought I would mention for people to make more of an informed decision if you’re looking to really look at the art.

This was a great tour!...

Mati_V, May 2026
This was a great tour! Fabio was knowledgeable, kept it fun and informative. I liked that the group was small, ten of us. It makes a big difference !

Vatican Museums and Sistene Chapel

Ros_C, May 2026
We found the tour very interesting but very crowded. Our guide, Abigail, was wonderful and gave us lots of information. The Sistine Chapel was amazing even though people kept talking when asked not to. On the whole I would recommend this tour.

Rome highlight

Sheryl_O, May 2026
Did the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel & St Peter’s Basillica tour with City Wonders Tours and tour guide Ally. It was fantastic! Ally was knowledgeable, so engaging and had a great sense of humour! Would definitely recommend this tour!

Elaine_B, May 2026
Alex was a superior guide! He is so knowledgeable, and he guided us at a good pace. Group size was perfect!

Sonya from City of Wonders led an excellent Vatican tour

Bonnie_M, May 2026
Sonya from City of Wonders was an excellent tour guide and exceptional as her knowledge of art was top notch. We’ve been on this tour before, but an excellent tour guide makes a big difference. She handled the crowds so well and navigated our group through the masses. What a A+ tour from Sonya. Bravo

Expensive but worth it for us!

Mari_G, May 2026
Glad we booked a tour vs. seeing the Vatican on our own. Our guide was a history major from Spain living in Italy for 12 years. She was funny and taught us what we were seeing. The museums are huge, so really helpful to know what to look for. St. Peter’s Basilica was the highlight. Definitely saved time to have “skip the line” tickets. The tours line was only about 10 minutes. The “regular line” was several hours the day we visited. That’s IF you booked tickets in advance.

Vatican City Experience

VERNON_B, May 2026
I was just in awe when I stepped in to the Vatican Museum to see all of the history of the people back in the days of their lives. Great tour and a great tour guide. Thank you.

Morning tour with Ami 16th May - 2 English girls!

Michelle_B, May 2026
Great experience with a knowledgeable and passionate guide who had great English. Semi private tour is expensive but so worth it, only 10 in our group and on a very busy Saturday that was priceless! Skip the line access was a massive bonus too!

Tour with Oscar

Booking a Vatican tour is a must and ours was informative, interesting and fun with Oscar. Very enjoyable

Shelly_M, May 2026
Mattie’s knowledge and experience was fantastic! Everything was crowded but she made the tour seemed easy and she had a wonderful sense of humor! Her historical knowledge as well as her knowledge of the Vatican was greatly appreciated! I would highly recommend her as tour guide!

Not worth the cost

Anthony_F, May 2026
The tour was very long and the tour guide was pleasant, but he took a long time on items and no time on others. The Vatican itself is incredible. The cost of the tour did not seem commensurate with the quality.

Response from Host, May 2026

Dear Anthony_F, Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to hear you found the Vatican incredible and appreciated the guide’s pleasant manner. We also appreciate your comments regarding the pacing and overall value of the tour, and we will take them into consideration as we continue improving our guests’ experience.

Great guide, great tour!

madison_m, May 2026
We had a great experience on this tour. Iman did a great job with our tour, even when handling some challenging members of our group. He was very knowledgeable and knew how to get us through efficiently and into some of the private areas. He also did a great job taking pictures for our group. The only downside was that I did not read the description carefully and booked a Wednesday tour and could not see St Peter’s Basilica. Make sure you book any of the other days if you wanted that to be part of the tour.

We enjoyed this trip to the Vatican. It was quite busy but our guide was able to walk us through many highlights. Our guide was very knowledgeable and pleasant. The tour company communicated with us the day before regarding meeting spots to start. It was a little confusing to us because it was a long line with many people but after checking they divided us into small groups. It was a good amount of walking but we enjoyed the visit.

It was a great tour with a great guide. Only thing to know. at the end of the tour its a hike to get a taxi. lol

Vatican experience

Melinda_R, May 2026
Our tour guide, Sylvia, was really good and obviously enthusiastic about the art we were seeing. As much as we enjoyed it, I thought it was very expensive. Even at the price we paid, we were very glad we went.

A MUST SEE! Avoid the long lines and learn the history.

Jennifer_S, May 2026
Our guide was absolutely the best we had in Europe out of the 7 tours we did. She was knowledgeable, kept it interesting, was not boring or mundane. She kept us moving through the crowd but made sure we saw everything. Truly a great experience!

Great tour

Michael_D, May 2026
Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. He also did a great job guiding us through the crowds of people all over the Vatican.

Great tour, so much history!

Benjamin_F, May 2026
This was a phenomenal experience, very knowledgeable and informative! The history writhin this building needs a knowledgeable guide and boy did we get one!

Vatican, sistine chapel, Basilica

Jodi_H, May 2026
We booked this tour for 3 different places with a cost of $310 for 2 people. It wasn't until after the tour started that we were informed that we won't have a tour of the Basilica because it was Wednesday. We were informed could go on our own later in the day after 4:00. Did not get what I paid for and the cost was too high for just a tour of the vatican museum. There was no other tour included. Only admission to the chapel. I would have expected to know that and have had the cost reduced to reflect that.

Response from Host, May 2026

Dear Jodi_H, Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed by the Basilica closure. However, we would like to clarify that a disclaimer regarding the closure of St. Peter’s Basilica on Wednesday mornings due to the Papal Audience, as well as possible last-minute closures, is included both in the tour description and in the Important Information section of the booking confirmation voucher sent after booking. We nevertheless appreciate your comments and understand your frustration. We wish you safe travels.
