The UNESCO World Heritage-listed Vatican Museums are visited by huge numbers of people each day, but with this handy Vatican tour—which includes priority access—bypass the worst of the crowds by entering with your guide through an exclusive entranceway.
The halls and rooms of the museum complex comprise miles of historic art and antiquities, but you go straight to the highlights, such as the Gallery of the Tapestries, the Gallery of the Maps, and the Pinecone Courtyard.
Continue to the Sistine Chapel, home of two of the most important frescoes of the Italian Renaissance. Learn about Michelangelo’s "The Last Judgement" and "The Creation of Adam" from outside the chapel (no talking inside), then head on in to admire the frescoes in person.
Follow your guide into St. Peter’s Basilica to see "La Pietà," another Michelangelo masterpiece, and learn about Bernini’s bronze altar. You can stay inside St. Peter’s Basilica after your tour ends, or head outside to St. Peter’s Square, where your tour ends.

While we endeavour to tell tour groups ahead of time if there are any planned disruptions to the Basilica's opening hours, this is not always possible and in these cases we are unable to provide refunds or discounts.
- On Wednesdays, due to the Papal Audiences, access to St Peter's Basilica is not possible in the morning.
- St Peter's Basilica is not accessible on the express tours options
- Please be advised that access to St. Peter's Basilica will not be guaranteed unless the names of all participants in the booking are provided in advance. This tour was well organized and Ilaria was an excellent tour guide! She was so informative and told us such interesting stories and facts that the three hours flew by! My teenaged son paid attention to the whole tour so that says something about how Ilaria can tailor her tour to all ages. Wish we could have had a longer tour with her!

The tour of the museum , Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica was very informative and the sites were a must see. The art work along with architecture were amazing to see and the background given by the tour guide made it much more enjoyable as she gave context to each artwork and the structures in each building. This tour is definitely a must do in Rome.

This tour would be a difficult tour for anyone with mobility issues. There are countless steps at the Vatican and little time to rest. Polina was a wonderful guide and would encourage us to rest whenever possible. The Vatican is absolutely beautiful and should not be missed, if possible. Booking this tour, which limited the number of paricipants, made it more managable.

This tour was really good and the skip the line part of the tour was awesome!! There were hundreds of people in line to get in and we just walked to front and was in immediately. Just for this fact alone is the tour worth it but then you add in your really informative guide, and it take the tour to the next level.

Set aside the heat, the experience is transformative with the right guide - Sylvia was the best. Her knowledge of the history and smallest details impressive; patients and forbearance with her inquisitive “students” remarkable! She is caring, efficient and patient.

It was easy to find our tour guide. I was not impressed with the guide, Nicolta. It was 95 and very, very hot. We stood outside in the sun for 30 minutes while she talked and talked about the Sistine Chapel. Many other groups went in while we stood there. I finally asked if we could go in & start the tour. She said it was going to be just as hot inside and it was but we paid to see the museum, not just stand outside. She wasn’t very impressive as a guide. I have taken this tour before and the guide was so informative and this was not. It was very disappointing

We are very sorry for the discomfort you experienced due to the intense heat. While the weather and the high volume of crowds inside the venue are unfortunately beyond our control, we completely understand how frustrating it is to stand in 95°F heat.
Regarding the delay outside, our guides often provide the mandatory detailed explanations of the Sistine Chapel beforehand, as strict silence is required once inside the chapel itself. However, we hear your feedback loud and clear regarding the pacing and the guide's delivery. We will address this with Nicoletta to ensure our guides are more mindful of guest comfort during extreme weather conditions.

Ambre was an outstanding guide for the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica! City Wonders makes the meeting point to start extremely easy!! Ambre was very knowledgeable, took care to make certain all of the group were together throughout the tour (these spaces are VERY crowded), she hit all the highlights, made sure everyone took advantage of water refill stations & bathrooms. City Wonders and Ambre get an A+.

Our sweet, knowledgable guide Paula H deserves a 5-star, but the whole 3-hour experience was quite exhausting. An Itailan heat wave (97º) combined with 34K other people wandering at a snails pace thru the museum without air conditioning made for a LONG afternoon. We were guided thru sculpture, map and tapestry salons and viewed St Peter’s Cupola from a balcony. Great photo spot. Walked outside in “pinecone” courtyard, had 10-minutes in the Cistine Chapel (AC!!!) and then into St Peters Basilica, which is breath-taking and massive. However, maybe because of the summer heat? The last day of our 11-night cruise? The crowded spaces? Or just all too much, we bailed with 40-minutes to go as our feet and interest could not continue. This tour ran us $200 each, and under more ideal situations, would be worth it. We did walk right in, past 100’s of people waiting outside to get in, walked thru “secret passageways” to avoid crowds, had headsets to hear her, and kept close watch on her CityWorks flag. But with SOOOOO many people in those tiny spaces, it is hard to see and hear and cover much of the vast collection during a visit. And LOTS of walking/shuffling, even to get to the plaza from anywhere! Not sure when the best time is to do this tour, but I do not recommend seeing Vatican City in the dead of summer…the museum sells out most every day. If you do, go early and take a water bottle and big sack of patience and grace!

This tour exceeded our desires and expectations. Not only was Iman informative, but it was obvious how much he really enjoyed his work. He took the time to keep the children in the group engaged, while also making sure my elderly parents had a seat when necessary and stayed with the group. The amount of knowledge was immense, and even overwhelming at times, but quite literally the best tour I think we've ever been on. Seeing the art through an artist's perspective gave us insight we would not have had on our own and made us feel so much more knowledgeable then just basic facts and figures. Do not hesitate to book this tour, and pray you get Iman when you do!

Extremely disappointed in this tour. We spent the first 45 minutes of the tour waiting in line to get in and through security. The tour should start when you are actually touring, not in a security line. The tour guide was visibly worried about having enough time for St. Peters and we ended up having only 15 minutes at the end to tour the Basilica. This was unacceptable. The tour guide was knowledgeable but dry and boring. She was difficult to understand. I've taken this same tour before and it was nothing like this. I was so disappointed that we did not get the same tour we had a few years prior.

Overall this was a very good tour. Our guide Rosella was INCREDIBLE! She had so much knowledge and was great at getting us looking at everything. It was incredibly hot, but there were adequate breaks. If you don't love art and history the tour is VERY long. We should have picked something different for our teens, but I was very happy.

This tour was packed with information and the tour guide was extremely knowledgeable. Our tour started outside in Vatican grounds where the guide gave an overview of what we were about to over the next few hours.
First, we saw the vatican museums, which included the church’s collection of sculptures, tapestries, maps and other artifacts. At the end of the museum was the sistine chapel. The Sistine chapel only allowed for 15 minutes viewing but our guide gave us information about the Chapel beforehand so we knew what we were looking at. St. Peter’s Basilica was a must see and we had quite a bit of time there. Would highly recommend this tour.
