This tour was really good. We started in the Capuchin Crypt/Museum...the day we were there was actually the feast day of St Francis. (The Capuchin monks are a part of the Franciscan order) The lines were long, but totally worth it. After this, we got into minivans to head to the Roman Catacombs. The Catacombs are empty (the Catholic Church moved all of the remains out of the sight of tourists) but it is still deeply moving. Some of the pathways are really narrow with lower ceilings, but totally able to navigate. I highly recommend!
We were really looking forward to this tour, particularly because it offers an opportunity to explore a fascinating part of Rome's history that many visitors might overlook.
Unfortunately, our group arrived approximately 15 minutes late to the meeting point, and the tour had already departed. This was entirely our responsibility, and as a result, we missed the Capuchin Crypts portion. Thankfully, the operator was able to arrange for us to join the group for the catacombs visit.
The catacombs themselves were fascinating! Hearing the stories of Saint Sebastian and learning that these catacombs had been hidden for approximately 1,700 years was incredible. Our guide was knowledgeable, although he spoke rather quickly and sometimes wasn't quite loud enough, making portions of his commentary difficult to understand. We were still able to follow the main points and really enjoyed the historical stories.
An unexpected highlight was our driver on the return trip. He was incredibly engaging, and we spent the entire ride chatting with him about everyday life in Rome. Those personal conversations with local people are often some of the most memorable parts of traveling.
My biggest advice is to arrive at the meeting point early! These tours operate on a schedule, and once the group departs, you risk missing part of the experience.
Even though we didn't get to experience the entire tour, I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys history and wants to explore something a little different while visiting Rome.
Be prepared to see mummified bodies at the capuchin crypts! We were also lucky enough to visit the Priscilla catacombs which had the most beautiful ancient artwork of biblical nature and our guide made the whole thing a fascinating experience.
This was great and definitely scratched my spooky itch! Transportation was made convenient as well!!
The overall experience was good. Waited over 30 minutes for the radios to be delivered with nowhere to sit. The vans to transport were late as well.
At the catacombs, it was difficult to hear the guide because there were no radios and the tunnels were long and narrow.
Elderly or handicapped people may want to rethink the experience.
Still wondering who thought creating art made with bones was a good idea. It was different. We enjoyed touring the Catacombs and our guide was excellent. He said he is usually the French guide but spoke excellent English. Great sense of humor.
The capachin part was great and the guide was wonderful. The catacombs was less great as the guide assigned to our group was quiet and less responsive, so felt like we missed parts.
Only did the Catacombs section but was disappointed with a half hour tour for the price paid. Also didn’t see what I expected to see.
I loved this tour, our tour guide Irelene (I think) made sure we enjoyed every stop and didn't feel rushed. In this tour is also included the Capucini crypts, not to be missed--- is the one we call the Church of Bones build by the Franciscans Fathers. In addition there are original paintings too not to be missed in museum. What painter? Well, you have to take the find out and be amazed
Very knowledgeable. We enjoyed our trip. It’s an excellent way to see so many destinations in three hours.
Be sure to cancel the 24th an ahead of time. And don’t be late. I wish they had given me a voucher for a refund and then I could have booked another tour

Hi Adele, thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We are sorry to hear that you missed your departure for the Rome Catacombs and Capuchin Crypts tour. Because our group tours follow strict departure times and ticket reservations for entry, our guides do need to set off promptly so the rest of the group doesn't miss out on their scheduled experience. While we are strictly bound by non-refundable ticket policies set by the venue sites, we truly understand how disappointing it is to miss out on an excursion you were looking forward to. We have brought your review to our Rome Operations Manager to see how we can make our departure timing and policy reminders even clearer in our pre-tour communications. Please reach out to our team at support@thetourguy.com so we can look into your account details and see how we can help get this resolved for you. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you on another tour in the future.
We were greeted at our meeting point and transferred into 3 vans to travel outside the city to visit the Catacombe Domitilla. What a very interesting place. Now this part is defiantly not for the claustrophobic. You are underground in very tight corridors. But it was incredible. No photography down there but the stories and the whys of this place are fascinating. Next we visited the museum and crypt of the Capuchins. WOW this is something to be seen. The alter rooms of organized bones and skeleton remains the history of the Capuchins all very interesting.
Well organised tour, nice clean van informative guide. Nice and quick but enough time to see and do everything
It was very interesting and we saw things we’d only read about. Was exciting to see in person. We also had a wonderful guide. I think her name was Emmanuella?
Very cool tour don’t miss it ! My husband and I wanted to do something off to be in path. It was an interesting chore.
Excellent, different, sometimes unsettling but completely worth it. So informative. Ilaria was excellent.
Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and added great detail to what we were seeing. Highly recommended
We received clear communications from them about location, dress code and other details. They were on time. Ilaria, our guide, was excellent. She is knowledge, and explained everything clearly. Hihgly recommended.
You learn more about Rome and you wish you can spend more time to see more of its landmarks and Federica the tour guid was very nice and full of information about the history of Rome
Federica was an INCREDIBLE guide. She gave us great information of the crypts and the catacombs but also a lot of Roman history and super fun facts! I didn't realize we would be driving to the catacombs but she made the drive SO enjoyable with her knowledge of Rome. I recommend for everyone (unless you are claustrophobic).
Nice time , a lot of interesting information and photos!!! Problem with the traffic in Rome, but is all good!

Thank you for the review! Exploring the underground history of the Catacombs and Crypts is so fascinating, and we're glad you enjoyed the experience and photos. Thank you for your understanding regarding Rome's busy traffic during transfers!
Best regards,
Guide was very knowledgeable and personable for the tour. Self- guided audio tour through the museum piece. Tour guide at the catacombs was extremely knowledgeable and respectful of his area. Very interesting!

Hi Shirley,
Thank you for taking the time to write a review! The Catacombs and Capuchin Crypts offer such a fascinating look into underground Rome, and we're glad you found both your guide and the local site specialists so knowledgeable and respectful.
Best regards,
Pretty much nice transportation to and from the site . Good option if you don’t have transportation.
Good communication and easy meeting point at Barberini fountain. Short walk to Capuchin Crypt and museum. Thought provoking tour looking at amazing display of bones creating multiple patterns. Short minibus ride to Catacombs, again well organised. Temperature cooler underground so a wrap may be helpful
Very interesting tours. Like nothing you've ever seen.
Did both locations and the transportation was very good.
This is a fascinating look into human history. The catacombs are nice and cool. David, our guide was funny and kind. Highly recommend!
Great experience and lots of wow moments. Our guide Arvin was great, wonderful sense of humour and very knowledgeable. Totally recommend.
The day of the dead / All Saints’ Day takes on a new meaning. Amazed how the people were able to did the graves for thousands w just a hammer and chisel. The art work done w the bones took a lot of imagination
Cecilia was a fantastic guide. She gave us recommendations for food and drink that the locals go to.
This was awesome! Fiona was amazing, so friendly and incredibly knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Maybe not the best for small children, but a really great tour.
This tour was basically a babysitting tour helping you buy tickets and a transport. You are paying them to buy your tickets ! Do it yourself ! The Bones ticket comes with a headphones tour for you while the "tour guide babysitter" sat during our time there. Then she bought a minivan taxi to get us to the catacombs which you can do yourself ! They also provide a tour guide while our "tour guide babysitter sat and ate (she didn't even go on the tour with us ) then she got us in a taxi and dropped us at the meeting point. You will save time and money not using them bc you don't have to wait for the tour to start (which is a walk to the bones tour ) you can just go directly to the tour yourself. This is a scam in my opinion. There was little to no information from this tour guide babysitter. She had plenty of time to talk about Rome and the history in the 25 minute cab ride to the catacombs. She sat quietly. Then she spoke about pizza on the return and suggested a restaurant.
Do yourself a favor and book this yourself ! It's easy to do as both tours comes with a tour guide while this tour guide sits and waits for a fee.

Hi Kimberly, thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We are sorry to hear that this experience fell short of your expectations and that you felt disappointed with the level of guiding provided. For this specific experience, our focus is on offering seamless coordination, skip-the-line ticket access, and private ground transportation between sites, while local site experts and audio guides lead the internal site visits as required by local site regulations. That said, our hosts should always remain active and informative during transit, so we drop the ball if you felt unsupported along the way. We have raised your notes directly with our Rome Operations Manager to review host engagement standards on transit. Please reach out to us at support@thetourguy.com so we can look into your booking details and work to get this resolved for you.
