I have never written a review on the various tours we have booked through Viator before (all very good experiences), but I feel compelled to do so in this case. This tour is a scam. While they advertise a private guided tour of Rome with a driver, what the operator does not tell you anywhere in the advertisement is that they provide you only with an audio guide that you are supposed to download and listen to on your phone, presumably for 8 hours. We were only informed of this the afternoon before the tour, after our credit card had been charged. I immediately contacted the operator to tell them that this is not at all what we were expecting based on the tour description, and that had we been notified of this prior to the penalty period we would have immediately canceled the tour. I can easily take taxis to get to the handful of sites on the tour for a fraction of the cost the tour operator is charging. The tour operator stated that I could not cancel the tour because I had failed to read all of the conditions. I contacted the customer service folks at Viator and the customer service representative reviewed the advertisement and confirmed that the description never mentioned an audio guide as opposed to a real person. I am now disputing the credit card charges and expect to receive a refund given the misleading nature of the advertisement. In short, if you want to hire a driver to take you to a few historical sites in Rome for the day for a lot of money then this is the tour for you. If not then run, don’t walk, from this scam artist/tour operator.

Dear Sir, First of all, as can be seen from the other reviews, we have clients who appreciated our tour: people who were picked up at the port of Civitavecchia, taken to Rome, and who pleasantly spent the day. However, these were people genuinely interested in our service, who contacted us and communicated with us. Unfortunately, we had to contact you because you seemed very uninterested in this activity, to the point of giving the impression that you had even forgotten you had booked it and are now looking for excuses not to pay and, moreover, to discredit hardworking people like us. Our tour description clearly explains that the duration is flexible, between 8 and 10 hours, with visits to sites described in detail by our audio guide, provided by a professional company specialized in creating audio guides for documentaries and museums. All of this information can also be verified in the description of our tour. The price is fair and aligned with that of other companies providing private services, naturally not taxis. You are free to travel by taxi or however you prefer, of course. However, there are people who choose convenience and comfort over other solutions. As we explained during our conversation, we cannot cancel at the last minute because we are subject to penalties that we do not wish to pay due to your negligence and lack of interest. If you had shown even the slightest interest, you would have resolved the situation much earlier. I suggest you reconsider your defamatory accusations, and I kindly ask you to better inform yourself about service costs before traveling and booking, because your ignorance should not negatively affect other people.
