Itinerary
Meet your guide and a small group of no more than six near the Vatican Museums, where you enjoy early access to the complex.
Your guide takes you through the maze of the museums to see highlights including the Gallery of Candelabras, the Gallery of Tapestries, the Pinecone Courtyard, and the Raphael Rooms.
Then head to the Sistine Chapel where you listen to an introduction to Michelangelo’s frescoes from your guide. Talking inside the chapel is not allowed, so you’ll learn about these Renaissance artworks before entering. Then, head directly inside the pope’s private place of worship.
Gaze in awe at Michelangelo’s ceiling fresco, "The Creation of Adam," as well as "The Last Judgment" gracing the back wall of the chapel. Soak in unobstructed views of the works, and enjoy time to inspect them in detail.
When your time in the chapel is up, head inside St. Peter’s Basilica. Here, let your guide introduce you to the best of the treasures held in the magnificent interior. Admire Michelangelo's glorious "Pietà," the marble sculpture depicting Mary holding the dead Jesus, as well as Bernini's Baldacchino altar canopy and Pope Alexander VII monument, among other great works.
Your tour concludes inside the church when your guide departs. You’re free to then continue exploring independently, perhaps looking further around the interior to see the papal tombs, climbing the Dome, or strolling around St. Peter’s Square as you wish.

Our tour guide Massimo was fantastic. Being in a group of only 6 people really allowed him to give us the best experience possible. He knowledge and professionalism was top notch and he took his time explaining everything that we encountered. I would highly recommend taking this tour as early as possible in the summer months as the crowds and heat are really something to be reckoned with. Paying for being in a small group was well worth it!

Massimo was a great host and guide. Very knowledgeable and clearly knows the other guides and staff around the Vatican. He was patient if we stopped, let us ask questions about things, and shared a lot of interesting information about the Vatican, Sistine Chapel, and St Peter’s Basilica. Highly recommended him and LivTours.

While the experience was great, we didn't feel like money paid for this tour worth it. We were in a semi private tour for 7:30 AM meet. Early start definitely didn't help with the crowds. We had a nice group of 7 people (yes they advertise as max 6 people), and we waited just like all the other big groups in line, and all the rooms, including Sistine C were very very very crowded. I think experience would have been similar if we opted for a regular tour.

Our tour was an early entry small group tour of 7 people. It was billed as getting into the facilities early to avoid the crowds, but by the time we entered it was wall to wall people so paying extra for an early tour was not worth the money. This was a disappointment to us . But, that was not the main issue. Georgio was our guide and did an OK job up to this point. We toured the Museum first then stopped to use the bathrooms before going up to the Sistine. Chapel. He told us to go into the Chapel and meet him in the back at a certain time. We viewed the chapel and when we went to the back he was not there. We waited in the
chapel for 20 minutes, but never saw him. He never looked for us and you can walk it in 30 seconds. There were only 7 people in the tour and he left 2 behind. We tried to hook up with 3 other tours just to go down the steps to the Basilica, but we were not part of their tour so it was a no. We had to exit the. Chapel and go outside instead of down the steps to the Basilica. We thought it would take forever to get in the general line, but somehow we hit it at the right time and it only took us 19 minutes to get into the Basilica. Very disappointed in Georgio!

We learned so much during our private tour with David! He was so knowledgeable and extremely courteous to both of us! He brought so much realism to the tour that it made us feel as if we were actually brought back in time to when everything we saw was being established. When we do any other private tour such as this in Rome we will always request David to do our tour for us. We would highly recommend you take this private tour and expand your real understanding of the history of Rome and the Catholic Church, etc.

Private tour with Guillem today. I highly recommend this tour. Pace was good and Guillem was extremely knowledgeable. He gave historical context throughout the tour which was so insightful and painted a wonderful picture. We really enjoyed this tour and would not change a thing.

This is the tour to take! Christina was so knowledgeable and accommodating my family and I had a wonderful time. We learned so much and saw so many hidden gems that Christina pointed out. I felt like I was in art school again! We can’t wait to come back and do it all again

Donata was a fantastic tour guide. She was personable and engaging throughout the tour, sharing great pieces of information as we toured the incredible Vatican Museums. It was an excellent time and we learned a great deal while taking in the overwhelming beauty and priceless art works. Highly recommend!

This tour was absolutely amazing. We attribute that to our tour guide Sylvia. She was a former teacher, and we really benefited from her ability to tell us things and teach us things that were meaningful to us. Our small group consisted of six people two which were children, and she really engaged them in the entire day in a way that was interesting to the adults as well. I’ve been to Rome before and I’ve done a tour of the Vatican and based on what I learned to with Sylvia, I feel like I was never even there before because I learned so much this time around. Highly recommend.

Amazing !! with a wonderful person to explain the tour. Dario was professional, caring and generous with his time. He made the tour amusing and entertaining with out going over the top. He genuinely had time for of us and made the tour memorable.
The tour was powerful for me as I learnt whole lot more about the Christian faith through this tour that only a tour guide with love and passion could provide.

Michaela was an excellent tour guide. She was very knowledgeable and accommodating. The early morning time slot allowed us to avoid large crowds, long lines and the peak heat of the day.
Jason_C, Jul 2026
It was amazing - great way to see the Vatican and to be able to appreciate the history behind it. We passed many 30-40 pol tours and were really happy to be with a much smaller group, able to pause, listen, learn, etc.
Connor_C, Jul 2026
Amazing, once in a lifetime experience to witness some of the most amazing art, sculptures and architecture of ancient times.
Tara_S, Jul 2026
Wonderful! Our tour guide was absolutely incredible, I mean truly impressive. He was humorous, knowledgeable, and it was clear that he knew everyone at the Vaticano. He was passionate about what he shared and so funny and enjoyable.
Because of him, we were at the cry front of the "front of the line" ticket holders and he shared parts of the museum that seemed unique and not part of your average tour.
Massimo, was his name - and we would come back to Rome simply to tour with him!

My friend and I joined a family of four for our tour. The size was perfect! There was time for Louisa to answer our questions and we moved through security easily. Louisa was wonderful! She really knew what she was doing and navigated us through the crowds and passages like a pro. I loved her energy and knowledge about the art and history of the Vatican. I felt like the tailored the tour to our interests. The Vatican museums can’t be missed, the Egyptian, Greek and Roman history there is amazing. As a Catholic, I am so grateful to see the Vatican and Sistine Chapel this way as well. After the tour you can stay in the church as long as you like!

Our travel agent was friendly, thoughtful, and knowledgeable. We were very pleased with the tour. We did the early morning tour. With the heat and crowds this was the best time for the visit. Meeting at the cafe extra early to try to get some breakfast and coffee. Usually it opens at 6 am but on Thursday 7:00. Oh well, we got some fruit and drinks before meeting guide. We found that the company has you stand in line on side of cafe if you have a private tour. Then they scan ticket and pair you with your assigned guide. Actually, it was pretty efficient.
David_S, Jul 2026
Our tour guide has a passion for letting tourists know about the history of the Vatican. She was very helpful and explained everything.
Elizabeth_W, Jul 2026
Our tour was with Cathy through LivTours. She was absolutely incredible. She brought her own book of all of the highlights and shared with us many things while we waited to get in so we had points of reference once inside. Just a wealth of knowledge and so patient and friendly. We did the early morning skip the line, and our kids 19, 19, 17, and 13 had a little trouble by the end, but all in all excellent experience and highly recommend.
Kathleen_C, Jul 2026
Our guide was very knowledgeable about all aspects of the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel and St Peters. Definitely take the semi-private tour. Reminder that you still have to stand in line to enter the museum but it is a short wait. this is due to the fact you meet at 7:3o but the museum doesn't open until 8:00AM
DennisColter_A, Jul 2026
It’s fast.. and I get why. You won’t be seeing everything and really there’s no way to do that. I highly recommend this tour for sure. You see the main things and that’s all you can ask for. It would take weeks to really see everything here. You get a micro dose and some great insights.

Mateo was very informative and this guided tour was excellent! Early morning was a bit rough to get up for but I highly recommend doing the early tour. Still busy but less crowded. Great tour. Highly recommend

Paola was very knowledgeable and fun. she took us to the right spots and made the experience extremely enjoyable.
Mai_R, Jun 2026
Enjoyed the early morning tour with Christina. She was very knowledgeable and interacted well with our small group. Small group was worth it because you could ask questions and stay together as a group. Don’t think you’ll be alone though, if you’re going in summer. You’ll be one of the first in and there is room to stay together, but there are lots of groups. Still, being able to interact with our guide was great and she did a fantastic job. We were with Liv Tours.
Sarah_D, Jun 2026
100000% recommend this tour! Liv Tours was organized and quick in getting us assigned to our guide Lia (from Sorrento - hope I spelled her name correctly) She was fantastic!! So warm and friendly and so knowledgeable!! She led us efficiently through the Vatican Museum and hit all the highlights!! The Sistine Chapel and St Peter’s were both magnificent. We took a super early tour to beat the crowds and it was so worth it. Lia was happy to take our family pics also which was so nice. Well worth the money spent - I would highly recommend Liv Tours!!
Stacey_K, Jun 2026
Good tour! The guide, Masimo was very detailed and did a great job of maneuvering us through spaces and telling us about all of the pieces of art.
