Itinerary
Meet your guide near the Vatican Museums, then, with your skip-the-line Vatican ticket in hand, bypass the sales line and enter the Vatican Museums for your tour.
Most routes through this vast complex cover the Gallery of the Maps, Gallery of Tapestries, and Raphael’s Rooms, and include information about the paintings and the often-scandalous stories of the artists who created them.
Continue to the Sistine Chapel, where Michelangelo’s famed biblical frescoes "The Last Judgment" and "The Creation of Adam" await. Talking is forbidden inside, so you hear the need-to-know info before you enter.
St. Peter’s Basilica is next, to admire Michelangelo’s "La Pieta" and Bernini’s baldachin, then step outside to learn about the columns, fountains, and obelisks that bestow the grandeur on St. Peter’s Square.

Great tour when it finished after 2 1/2 hours, we felt it could have been slightly longer for the cost
We did this tour two years ago with a different company but we still had an equally good experience. We had such a good time the first time we knew we would enjoy it a second time. This time we had a 1 year old with us. You’ll need a diaper bag with everything. Top off the baby before you leave your hotel. Small group tours are the way to go. We took a compact/foldable stroller as well as a chest baby carrier. The foldable stroller was for just before entering the museum and after leaving the basilica. It sucks carrying it through 90% of the tour but completely worth it afterwards. The chest carrier was necessary. You don’t want to have to use your arms to hold your child for 3 hours. Right before entering the sistine chapel there are bathrooms to top off the baby again and do a diaper change. This tour is doable with babies but it will be challenging. Absolutely worth it. Our tour guide was very accommodating. She had a great attitude and was very knowledgeable.
An excellent tour. The guide, Stefania, was very knowledgeable and knew how to maximise our time. She covered all areas of historical significance, while also weaving in more light-hearted facts. Stefania was warm, welcoming, and generous in sharing her knowledge as an Art History graduate. Highly recommend.
Our tour guide gave us an amazing explanation of the artist who worked at the Sistine chapel as well as in the Saint Peter’s basilica. The art you saw was impersonating!
Our guide was very knowledgeable and the Vatican, the faith and history of many different figures and periods.
Well worth it for a memorable visit to the Vatican. Knowledge guide truly made it worth the price. Skip the line on hot summer days.
Leonardo did a great job today!! We were pleased and then met up with some friends from a tour and shared what we learned and saw—now we KNOW he was fantastico!! There is just so much to see in these places that without a guide we would not have come away with the richness we did.
Leonardo prepared us for what we were about to see, pointed it out as we were seeing it, and kept us moving at a consistent pace allowing time to absorb but not linger.
He taught us about history, art, political struggle between the popes and kings, maps, relics, tapestries, paintings, sculptures, popes, etc. Without him as a guide, I would have seen but not understood what I was seeing, rushed in important places or missed them, and spent all day reading plaques to figure out a piece’s meaning. I can’t imagine trying to go to the Vatican, the Sistine Chapel , and St. Peter’s Basilica without a skip-the-line ticket and a guide!!
We appreciated the extra time after the tour for the church and pictures.
The meeting time and space is easy to find and well organized.
Grazie Mil, Leonardo!!
We had a great time! Got to see a lot of cool stuff. It was really busy but you guys got us checked in and inside the Vatican efficiently. Cosimo was great. He was knowledgeable and good about keeping us moving since inside was pretty crowded. He stopped at some unique spots and also gave us some time now and then to explore on our own.
Great Guide- would love to see him again for other tours. But this Tour is too long. Should not be 3 hrs. 2-215 min would be perfect! Spent 45 min standing in front of 3 poster boards about the Sistine Chapel when we really just wanted to go inside. We did finally but too much waiting under the guise of “ learning” before we went in. Spent 15 min in front of a mockup of Vatican City when all we needed to do was enter inside. Much wasted time especially in hot summer.

Dear Kimberly_B,
Thank you for your feedback regarding your guide and your experience. We are glad to hear you enjoyed the guide's expertise, but we appreciate your notes on the pacing.
Regarding the time spent at the informational boards, the Vatican is extremely crowded, and the local authorities strictly prohibit guides from speaking or giving explanations inside the Sistine Chapel itself to preserve its atmosphere. Because we cannot control the heavy crowds or these venue rules, the guide must provide all the necessary context and history outside before you enter.
We appreciate your feedback, unfortunately, there are some things beyond our control such as weather or crowds.
Elisa was the ultimate professional guide and made this tour interesting, especially for our 13 year old granddaughter! She was easy to understand and quite knowledgeable, hitting on the most significant aspects of our tour though we only had 3 hours. Highly recommend her!!
I was disappointed that the tour began in the back of the Vatican. My husband was with me and missed the walk from the front entrance, which is one of the most breathtaking walks one can take.
I understand the purpose of the new entrance; however, it really ruins the experience.

Dear Elizabeth_C,
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry to hear that the tour routing did not meet your expectations, though we are a bit confused by your description of the starting point. All of our standard full-day itineraries begin directly at the main entrance of the Vatican Museums. From there, the route proceeds through the galleries, moves into the Sistine Chapel, and concludes inside St. Peter’s Basilica. We do not use a "back entrance" to begin our guided routes.
It is possible you may have booked a specific, shorter itinerary rather than the complete experience. For instance, our Vatican Express Tour or our standalone St. Peter’s Basilica Tour feature completely different meeting points and routes due to their condensed nature.
If you wish to clarify further, you can contact us with your booking number.
Excellent tour. Laura was knowledgeable and moved at a great pace to see everything in a manageable amount of time with two young kids. Finding the access point was easy and there were no issues with the tickets. Would recommend bringing a carrier instead of a stroller as strollers are not permitted in the basilica. We were able to check a stroller at the Vatican and there is a stroller drop off at the basilica that went smoothly as well. Highly recommend the tour as the line to get in is 3-5 hrs long and once inside there is so much too see it was great to have a guide
Our tour was private and allowed us to skip the. Eye long lines to get in. We were enlightened and delighted on the tour of the Vatican and St. Peter’s Church . Highly recommended for your Rome visit.
Our tour was very informative and fun! It was a small group of eight.
Francesca was a wonderful guide! I highly recommend!
We had an issue getting rhere either traffic even though we left on time. I emailed we would be 3 minutes late. The called me twice snd I said almost thrre. Got to steps and thrre lots of people and didn’t see group. They could not wait 3 minutes. We paid over $1000. I have been using Viator for over 20 years. So disappointed and it was our only day in Rome 😢 i. Was om another tour on 4/30 and the foid guy waited for another 2 guests

Dear Rebecca_Y,
We are truly sorry to hear that traffic delays prevented you from joining us, especially during your only day in Rome. We understand how disappointing this is, particularly for a long-time Viator traveler.
As mentioned in our booking terms, we ask all guests to arrive at the meeting point 15 minutes before departure. Our tours follow a strict schedule due to timed entry requirements at the sites, which unfortunately means our guides are unable to wait for late arrivals, even by a few minutes. To ensure the location is easy to find, we provide detailed instructions and a Google Maps link on the voucher.
While we understand other tours may have different policies, our fixed entry times do not allow for flexibility without affecting the experience for the rest of the group.
We appreciate your feedback and regret that we could not accommodate you on this occasion.
Best regards.
Great guide
Very knowledgeable
Great overview
Would highly recommend to get through this vast museum
We were moved through the crowds by our guide PG quickly and brought to see the pieces of the Vatican Museum that are some of the most famous. He then guided us through the crowds to view the Sistine Chapel as well as the Basilica of St. Peter’s.
Our guide Nico was amazing! So knowledgeable and kind. We had Ana amazing tour of art and history. He didn’t rush or go too slow. We was the perfect guide!
Polina was a great guide. She adjusted the tour based on our desire and helped us find a fantastic place for lunch after the tour. Extremely knowledgeable. Highly recommend
Tour was okay. The guide was very knowledgable but it seemed she assumed everyone knew something about the history of Christianity given the terms and names she used. We were a bit lost.

Hi there,
Thank you for your feedback!
Thank you for sharing your experience! We’re glad you found the guide knowledgeable and understand that some of the details can feel overwhelming.
We always aim to make the tour enjoyable for everyone, and our guides welcome questions or input at any time, your feedback helps us ensure future guests feel comfortable and engaged.
If you want, I can also make a slightly shorter version that’s punchy but still empathetic.
Enjoyed the tour but guide although speaking English had a thick native tongue and spoke fast making it difficult to understand.
A great small group tour of The Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel and St Peters. Guide Ricardo did a great job and made the whole trip very interesting. Only 8 in our group compared with some very large group elsewhere.
Our tour guide was excellent! Knowledgeable, willing to adjust and change based on our wants and desires. Engaging and fun.
Great experience on private tour. Our guide was a local Roman who was extremely knowledgeable and spoke great English. We learned a lot and were able to avoid long lines and crowds as she whisked through the museums and Sistine chapel and St Peters. Great way to see the Vatican.
Private tour guide cancelled the day before and no replacement. Had to do this on our own. No communication from aviator regarding g a refund. Local operator said that we had to deal with aviator..passing the buck

Alex was an incredible tour guide - so knowledgeable and friendly. You could really tell that she loves showing people her country’s treasures. We learned so much about the Vatican and it’s precious art collection. Really an amazing experience!!!
Me, my husband, and both of his parents had a FANTASTIC time in Vatican City thanks to our hilarious, lovely, and knowledgeable guide Amil! We booked a private tour as my MIL has mobility issues that render her a slow walker and we couldn’t be more pleased with this decision since Amil took extra special care of us. ❤️ She peppered the tour with the funniest of historical backstories, made sure we noticed and understood the most important pieces from the potentially overwhelming array of sights, and was honestly just a complete delight to spend time with. Don’t hesitate to book her, you won’t regret it!!
We had a private tour w/Laura and it was fantastic!! She did an outstanding job of describing the history of the various objects we looked at. Sitting in the Sistine Chapel was humbling and the first look at St. Peters Basilica literally took my breath away....a once in a lifetime experience (and I am not religious)!!
We could not have done the Vatican without a tour guide! She shared some amazing information with us and was very helpful
Our tour guide was Georgia and we had a private tour of the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel. Georgia was an outstanding guide - incredibly well informed and passionate about the art and history of the Vatican museums.
But there was no tour of St. Peter’s Basilica as advertised in the title of the tour by City Wonders.
