Itinerary
Stroll with your guide from Piazza Barberini to the nearby Capuchin Crypt, where the mummified remains of Capuchin friars await. While listening to an audio guide, explore labyrinthine tunnels and learn about the 18th-century monks who created the macabre surroundings.
Having piqued your interest in Rome’s quirkier sights, you’ll continue to the Domitilla Catacombs. It’s one of Rome’s largest catacomb sites. Find its standout frescoes and early Christian symbols with your guide.
Next comes a church that’s off the usual tourist trail. The Basilica dei Santi Silvestro e Martino ai Monti sits on top of ancient Roman ruins, and a look inside reveals layers of religious history. After admiring Baroque-era frescoes, an underground early Christian chapel, and more, your tour ends back at Piazza Barberini or by the Basilica of San Nicola in Carcere.
To experience Rome’s catacombs without the daytime crowds, upgrade to the evening after-tours tour instead.

I was so blessed to attend this your with our wonderful guide Andrea. The crypts and Catacombs as well as the final stop at the Basilica di St Silvester e St Martin were all so interesting.
Andrea's knowledge and passion for history were such an incredible benefit. He was one of the best guides I have experienced in Rome.
Cannot recommend this tour enough. Especially the Catacombs. What an incredible location!

Our tour guide, Clair, was very personal and knowledgeable. The Catacombs were a nice relief from the heat!

Another great tour in rome. Very well done, great guides. It was great to have a bus to take us to each place.

Great tour guide Allen. Very knowledgeable and made a difficult subject quite interesting. Best part was showing the levels of Rome. The architectural lasagna.
Travis_C, Aug 2026
They gave us one address then changed it without us knowing so we waited around and left. Lost our money and a once in a lifetime trip.

The Catacombs tour with Alain was truly exceptional! He made the experience both highly informative and engaging, blending history, knowledge, and humor seamlessly. His insights into the early Christians brought the history to life and made the tour deeply memorable. Highly recommended

Great experience and well worth going to learn about how the monks lived and how the bones of previous monks were used and also to see the burial chambers in the crypts was a real eye opener. The last place we visited was a fantastic church and to hear its history was amazing, our guide was so knowledgable and gave us so much information about everything we saw the only down side was after this we were left to make our own way back which was a little disappointing.
Kendra_M, Aug 2026
Excellent tour with Alain! The check in process was smooth. The crypts were quite unique and the catacombs were fascinating. Our guide of the catacombs, Tina, was super knowledgeable and lovely. Paying the extra for the after hours experience was definitely worth it.

Loved the museum so much, lots of bones and very informative. The catacombs were interesting, no bodies there as they had all been removed but what remains is amazing
Steve_M, Aug 2026
What an extraordinary different location. I would not have believed it had I not seen it myself. Guides super knowledgeable. Great experience
Jennifer_M, Aug 2026
What an amazing tour we had! Our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable (both an art history major as well had worked previously on the research side of the crypts/catacombs) so was a wealth of knowledge. His passion for the history of the crypts and catacombs was obvious and he was engaging and personable. We enjoyed the tour so much that we recommended it to the tour guide of another tour we did the next day!

We did the 930am tour with Alessandra. T was great! She was super knowledgeable and the pace was good. They did enforce the knees and shoulders being covered in the crypts just an FYI. It was nice and cool considering the heat wave. The tour was very interesting overall!
Mary_N, Aug 2026
The meet locations are not where the bus is, and I’m not sure why. You must walk, in our case in the heat and up hills and across cobblestone streets, to get to the true meeting spot for the bus pickups. The guide was lovely but gave too much information and talked too long in many situations.
Response from Host, Aug 2026
Hi Mary,
Thank you for sharing your feedback.
We’re glad to hear you enjoyed your guide.
Regarding the meeting points, our buses park as close as possible to the designated locations, as restrictions in historic areas often prevent buses from stopping directly at the meeting point.
We understand that walking in the heat, over cobblestones and uphill can be challenging, and we appreciate your understanding. We’ll also share your feedback regarding the length of the guide’s commentary with our team.

Visit of the crypt and the catacombs. This was very interesting and strange at the same time. Our guide Alain was very knowledgeable
And funny. It made learning quite easy and fun.

This was an incredible tour and one that should be on everyone's list if in Rome more than a day. We didn't know what to expect and found the crypts and catacombs very fascinating - a unique experience for sure. The tour company made it easy to understand where to meet and proceeded on time. The guide kept all 20+ people moving along to stay on schedule, took time to answer questions and provided sufficient time when walking through the museum we visited prior to entering the crypts. Transport between sites was on a bus with AC, important as we took this tour during a hot summer. If visiting Rome during hot months, this tour has the added advantage of being mostly inside (museum or down in the crypts/catacombs which where air is cool). When the tour finished the guide provide information on where you could go to see more sites on your own or return to your hotel. Since the end point was very close to St. Mary Major, we did a self-tour through there but made our overall experience that day even more comprehensive.

This was a great trip that we stumbled on when trying to fill a free day in Rome. It was super interesting and the right amount of creepy. We had two guides, Ale and Sylvia, who were both super fun, kind, and knowledgeable, and gave us a wonderful lunch recommendation after. The catacombs involve a lot of stairs and uneven surfaces which was slightly challenging for some people but added to the experience. The group was a little bigger than I anticipated and it may have been a little easier in a smaller group, but the other patrons had really interesting questions so that was fine too. Still worth it!

Such a morbid, but fascinating tour. Kler met us and lead us to the Capuchin crypt where we marveled at the intricate arrangements of bones before we took the very comfortable coach over to the Catacombs. Kler provided us with an astounding amount of knowledge and humor throughout the Catacombs tour. One thing to note, it definitely isn't for people who suffer from claustrophobia, as those tunnels are narrow, sometimes short and the entire thing is dark. You are underground after all. But such a cool experience.

Sylvia and Katarina were wonderful! We had a great time. Tour was well balanced, perfectly timed to be able to enjoy everytjing, fun and informative
Lauren_C, Jul 2026
My family and I had a wonderful time exploring the catacombs and Roman crypts! Our tour guide (Alain) was excellent--he provided so much interesting information and really brought our tour to life. This was one of me and my family's favorite parts of our trip to Rome :) 10/10 would recommend!
long_w, Jul 2026
While you can book yourself the ticket through the Friar, the one through the monastery cannot, so overall a profound experience. Was not cold enough in the catacombs to warrant a sweater. No skeletons in the catacombs.
Trenton_T, Jul 2026
Cat and Kler were excellent guides! They were both very knowledgeable and kept things entertaining. I would recommend this tour to anyone.
Kevin_E, Jul 2026
It was an amazing journey into
2000 yrs past. The first depiction of the Virgin Mary and Christ was very special
Nathan_L, Jul 2026
Andrea was an awesome guide. The tour highlights some hidden wonders of Rome. The crypt is a bit eerie but fascinating. I wish we had more time in the museum but felt like overall the length of the tour was good.
Waldo_M, Jul 2026
The tour guide was extremely informative, and he had a good vibe. We weren’t rushed. Andrea gave the information and knowledge needed. It was educational and fun. The whole experience was fantastic. There were two guys named Andrea. Both were great, but ours was the one with dark hair & glasses.
Huy_H, Jul 2026
My tour guide was Silvia and she was very enthusiastic about the city of Rome and its history. She made the experience a lot more engaging and fun with the landmarks she pointed out and fun facts about the city as we passed through points in our itinerary. The tour itself with City Wonders was seamless and we moved efficiently between points with an air conditioned bus that made the Summer heat a lot more bearable.
Jennifer_S, Jul 2026
This was a great experience. Paula was an awesome tour guide with a lot of knowledge. The tour was the perfect amount of time. Highly recommend.
Heather_B, Jul 2026
