Sara Terracina was our tour guide for Rome’s Jewish Ghetto and The Great Synagogue. She was outstanding! We learned a great deal about the history of the Jews in Rome, and especially their life in the ghetto. Sara was extremely knowledgeable, professional, enthusiastic and interesting. We have taken many many chores over the years and I would say that Sara was the best tour guide we’ve ever had..

Sara was an excellent guide who explained the history of the Jews of Italy and how they came to be there. She was very knowledgeable about the persecution they lived under for many centuries to the current state of the Jewish Community. I would highly recommend her to anyone who wants to truly understand the Jewish history of the area.

Rome Through a Jewish Lens

Mel_W, Jun 2026
To see Rome, also through a Jewish historical lens, is important. The experience in the Great Synagogue was both eye opening and breathtaking.

Amazing tour guide.

Sarah is very knowledgeable and well informed. This is the tour you want to take if you want to visit the Jewish ghetto. It was mostly indoors so a hot afternoon wasn't uncomfortable.

Outstanding Tour of the Rome Synagogue and Jewish Ghetto

Martha_W, May 2026
Sara Terracina is an outstanding tour guide. She is extremely knowledgeable and a riveting story teller. She wove personal family anecdote into the history she was explaining, to give us a feel of what it means today .... and what it meant in the past...to be a Jew in Rome. We learned a tremendous amount about the Jews of Rome through the ages, going back to the Roman empire. As an observant Jew, Sara was able to share an insider's perspective on the Jewish community's religious, as well as communal, life. It was worth coming to Rome for this tour alone. I feel enriched for having met Sara.

Fantastic!!!

Sara is a great tour guide. She is extremely knowledgeable and gave us a comprehensive tour of the Jewish ghetto, Great Synagogue, and the museum. She gave us the history of Jewish people in Rome from ancient times through present day. I highly recommend taking this tour with Sara!

Exceptional tour!

CherylLackman_F, Mar 2026
Our tour guide, Sara, was INCREDIBLE! Her family has lived in Rome for over 500 years, so her personal knowledge truly enhanced her institutional knowledge about the Great Synagogue, the Museum, and the Rome Jewish Ghetto. The time flew by and our only regret was that we didn't have more time with her. We took other tours in Rome and the tour guides were very good, but none compared to Sara! This was truly the highlight of our trip, and I highly recommend this tour to everyone!

Amy_Y, Mar 2026
We met our guide Sara at the specified outdoor location. It was torrential rain, so we were all running behind that morning (including Sara) but we communicated well via WhatsApp. We walked around the Jewish Ghetto area and she was giving descriptions of buildings and areas but it was a little hard to hear because of the rain. It was also cold and uncomfortable we were soaking wet - it may have been better if we went straight to the indoor portions first, then did the outdoor portions later when the rain let up a bit. We walked around the Jewish museum and heard a lot of interesting info about Judaism in Rome, including that Roman Jews are their own "thing" separate from Ashkenazi and Sephardic, that they all consider themselves Orthodox, and that Libyan Jews are prevalent in Rome. Also that the chapel in the museum is an active synagogue and they use ritual objects from the museum cases themselves for their services! We also got to see the Great Synagogue which was spectacular. Sara was easy to understand and animated and passionate about her subject matter.

We enjoyed a wonderful tour of the Jewish Ghetto in Rome with our guide Sarah.she was extremely knowledgeable and professional! We highly recommend her tour !

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Thank you very much Carol! I was very glad to be your guide, and to show you my community history and traditions, and I hope you tried the Jewish artichokes. Wish you all the best.

Please fix your logistics!

Michael_R, Mar 2026
The 4 stars apply to via your tour operator! The replacement guide was 5 stars and more! But, after trying to change the time I booked, then sending 1-2 emails a day, they gave confusing instructions for the meeting place( just make it the Great Synagogue, which all cabbies know), and please don’t change guides at the last minute, with no info for how to reach the new guide, since the one on record did not respond to calls! You gave us many instructions, but did not follow any of your own!

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Dear Michael, I am very glad you liked the tour and surprised at the same time about your comment. The starting time of the tour it was the one you requested and it was not changed. The guide as you said made an amazing job, she was there at 9:30am sharp holding a sign with your name written on. The company didn't provide cab drivers or private drivers, we cannot guarantee about their knowledge of Rome. The address of the meeting place is on the confirmation mail and it is provided by google maps. To have a meeting point at the Great Synagogue is simply not possible. The office received your call, answer the call and heard you talking but you couldn't hear her back, so she got in contact with the guide to know if everything was fine, and the guide confirmed that you were with her. So again I am glad you liked the tour, thank you for all the advise and wish you the best.

An unforgettable experience in the Jewish Quarter

Anthony_D, Mar 2026
This was a truly memorable visit to the Museum and Synagogue. As there were only two of us on the tour that day, we were able to get essentially a private tour with an excellent guide. Her knowledgeable of the priceless artifacts in the museum was impressive, and we learned so much about the history of the Jewish people of Rome and of the Jewish Quarter through the ages. The Synagogue is magnificent and our visit there was unforgettable and deeply moving. Highly recommended.

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Thank you very much for your nice words, indeed it was my pleasure showing you our Great Synagogue, the Jewish community and its ancient history. Wish you a wonderful day.
