Let a Local Do the Driving
When you make it to South Dakota, for the best, most relaxing, and informative experience, let a local do the driving to Mountain Rushmore and the surrounding state parks and national forests. Neil, with Black Hills Day Trips is an excellent guide with a wealth of local history knowledge that keeps the journey between each breathtaking stop entertaining. The tour bus was spotless and comfortable. Pick up was on time and there was plenty of time at each destination to see it all before re-boarding for the next stop on the day’s itinerary. The scenic journey is filled with winding roads and various park entry points and it was so relaxing to let Neil take the wheel so we could take in the incredible beauty of the area, including lots of local wildlife! Highly recommend!

Excellent tour!
Crystal, the owner of Mount Rushmore Tours, was excellent to deal with. She was always responsive to my questions and available to talk, all with a positive attitude.
Dan, our tour guide, was excellent as well. Very knowledgeable and knew when to talk and not to talk.

Private tour of Mt Rushmore
The tour was fantastic! The guide was great: knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. He told the history of the area and the monument along with the geological formations. He led us to the best viewing areas and explained changes at Crazy Horse that he had seen in just one year and why things were happening. Overall a great experience. I highly recommend this tour

Russ was our driver...
Russ was our driver today. This was our first full day in South Dakota. This tour was a great overview of the area and Russ shared recommendations of other things to do and see. He picked us up right on time at our hotel. We felt very safe. It was nice to be able to look and enjoy the area without having to navigate and figure out where we were going. We saw places we would not have known about on our own. Russ took pictures of us along the way. We saw bison, marmot, prairie dogs, prong horns, and white tail deer. Russ was very knowledgable of the area and of historical facts. We enjoyed our day!

Great trip to Devil’s Tower, Spearfish Canyon and Deadwood!
Great day with Cheryl and Scott on this amazing trip to Devil’s Tower, Spearfish Canyon and Deadwood! Flexible activities based on our ability and expectations. Cheryl had some wonderful stories about the history and events in Wyoming and South Dakota. Loved every minute of the day and would absolutely recommend this tour.

We took a full day...
We took a full day private tour for Mount Rushmore and Black Hills including Crazy Horse Memorial and Custer State Park. Our guide Jennifer arrived on time, and immediately began giving an overview of our tour. She was extremely knowledgeable of the Black Hills and beyond, answering questions without hesitation. Jennifer took great effort to locate where the bisons were grazing when they were not in their usual area. She assisted in taking photos with our cameras as well as providing her own binoculars to view mountain scenic views of Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse. After our tour Jennifer shared tips and suggested areas to visit on the remaining days of our visit. It was really a pleasure to have Jennifer as our guide.

Well worth it!
This was a terrific way to see the unique area that is the Badlands. Our guide, Charlie, was knowledgeable, fun and had so much history and Native American lore to share. We only had one day, and this was the perfect way to maximize our time and get the most out of the park.
Wear good shoes and a hat. Ground can be uneven.

Very enjoyable tour! TJ...
Very enjoyable tour! TJ was an amazing guide who made the tour special by sharing his vast knowledge of Mt. Rushmore and the black hills. Views of Mt. Rushmore from a distance at night was fascinating. Iron mountain road, the pigtails and tunnels were all great!

Our full-day tour to...
Our full-day tour to Mount Rushmore and the Black Hills was a fantastic experience from start to finish. As first-time visitors to South Dakota, we couldn’t have asked for a better introduction—the tour gave us a wonderful overview of the region’s most stunning sights. The scenic drives alone were unforgettable, winding through breathtaking landscapes that photos simply can't capture.
Our driver and guide was exceptional—knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly passionate about the area. They brought the history and beauty of the Black Hills to life in a way that made the day both educational and deeply memorable.
We highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to explore South Dakota in a meaningful and enriching way.

It was so nice to travel...
It was so nice to travel the area without worrying about parking or making decisions about where to go first. Everything was planned for us. We were able to relax and enjoy. We also learned so much about the area that we wouldn’t have learned otherwise. Our guide, Paula, was fantastic. She made sure that we were able to see all the things that were important to us. She was very knowledgeable, fun and kind!

Highly Recommend
My Husband & I thoroughly enjoyed the audio. It was interesting & learned much more than driving the beautiful area without a ‘guide’. It works off-line as long as the app has been downloaded beforehand. It was easy to use & easy to find the starting point. Highly recommend!

Get your feet off the ground
The ride to the flight location was about 45 minutes, as was the balloon ride. It was a (mostly) clear day, sunny and little wind. there were 3 balloons, 2 with 10 people and a pilot, and a smaller one with 4 and a pilot. It took about 20 minutes to get the balloons prepped which started with a fans to fill the balloon an propane then to heat the air. At ground level the temp was around 50 (early June), so we had hooded jackets, but as we went up the air it actually got warmer and didn't need them. The ride was silky smooth, the sky
scintillating, and the view created its own silence of awe. Takeoff was a slow cake rise and the landing was like setting down on a soft mattress. The crew was professional, practiced, personable: clearly a team, keeping up a genial banter meant to calm the nerves of the steadfastly terrestrial. If you are going to the Black Hills, carve it in stone, this is on your list.
