Take a short hike to this panoramic vista point in the Kamnik–Savinja Alps to find the best views of picturesque Lake Bled, Bled Island, and the surrounding peaks and forests. Technically, Ojstrica is the lower of two scenic viewpoints over the lake—a second viewpoint called Osojnica is a bit farther up the same trail.
This alpine plateau in Triglav National Park is covered in pine forests, grazing cattle, and shingle cottages straight out of a Slovenian mountain postcard. Pokljuka Plateau is a short distance from the famous Lake Bled and offers peaceful escapes into picturesque farmland and nature, which are perfect for hiking, mountain biking, winter cross-country skiing, and exploring traditional alpine pastures.
Cascading into an emerald pool, the Virje Waterfall is one of many beautiful natural attractions in Bovec, Slovenia. It’s fed by the Glijun Stream, which descends 39 feet (12 meters) from the mountains and is active year-round, regardless of the water level. You can reach it by hiking in the mountain-flanked Soça Valley.
The elegant walls of the Praetorian Palace are among Koper’s most recognizable landmarks, with commanding views across Tito Square. World War I buffs will be intrigued by its role as an Austro-Hungarian garrison, but it’s worth visiting to admire the views alone, even if you don’t have an interest in military history.

Named after the Slovene writer and political activist Ivan Cankar, the Cankar Centre (Cankarjev Dom) is Ljulbjana’s arts and cultural hub. Designed by postmodernist Slovene architect Edvard Ravnikar, this vast complex features several performance venues and hosts hundreds of annual events such as the Ljubljana Jazz Festival and the Ljubljana International Film Festival as well as numerous conferences and other cultural events.
Stretching from Trieste in Italy to the Vipava Valley, the Karst region of Slovenia is a rocky limestone plateau rich with cave formations, underground lakes, and charming villages. The most notable attraction is the Postojna Cave, known not only for its stunning rock formations, but for being the world’s only cave with its own underground railway.
One of Slovenia’s finest castles, Podsreda Castle is a Romanesque fortress near the Croatian border that dates back to the 12th century. Forty years of renovation have revitalized the castle, which now serves as a hotel, wedding venue, and tourist attraction, as well as the main hub for exploring Kozjansko Regional Park.
Located within the Triglav National Park, Krn Lake is the largest Alpine lake in Slovenia. In the shadow of Mt. Krn, the lake sits 4,560 feet (1,391 meters) above sea level, surrounded by a landscape of Alpine flowers and fauna. It is a mecca for nature lovers and offers incredible views of the surrounding mountain landscape.
