Highlight of our Queenstown holiday

This tour is everything a LOTR fan could want. Dan our driver and tour guide was very knowledgeable and showed us amazing location spots and facts about the movies, characters and books, including The Silmarillion, if that tickles your fancy. The road trip to Glenorchy is stunning and there are plenty of stops along the way for photos and videos and commentary about movie location spots. Costume dress ups was a highlight. Loved our day on this tour, would definitely do again and highly recommend it. Special thanks to Dan for being a wonderful, gracious host.

Wow, this is the best way to see Milford Sound

This was an amazing day. While it may seem long, the drive does take a fair few hours but with opportunities for scenic photos and a coffee/toilet break it goes by really quickly. The Milford Sound cruise, food and commentary was also really well done. I can’t comment on the bus trip home because we decided to fly back which was totally worth the additional outlay. Our driver and guide Hamish and our pilot Josh really made the day!

This was such a fun tour! It is the perfect amount of time. I loved seeing a Highland Cow in person! Feeding and learning about all the animals was so neat. The sheep shearing demonstration was really cool too. The lady that guided us was very friendly and answered all questions happily. The boat ride over was gorgeous. I can't imagine that being your view everyday!!

The trip of a lifetime

The fly-cruise-fly to Milford Sound is a must do! Everything from the pick-up from the hotel with Sam and the very friendly invite from him and our pilot Andrew that showed all of us their wealth of knowledge on our travels, to the magnificent scenery and views of the waterfalls, landscape, and sea life. I would highly recommend if you are thinking of going to do it!!!

Worth the time, for sure.

A wonderful mid-day trip. The boat ride was very pretty and informative, although it was often difficult to hear the narration. Unfortunately, we were unable to ride the TSS Earnslaw because May is the month they do maintenance on the 114 year old ship. Our time at the farm was delightful and the buffet was quite nice. We enjoyed the sheep show demonstration of shearing a sheep as well as the working dog demonstration. Overall, we thought it was a great experience and would certainly recommend it to others.

Great Experience

The glass ceiling on the bus is such a nice touch to this experience so you can see the mountains along the drive. I sometimes get car sick on long drives but Debbie was a great driver. We had a few stops along the way to Milford Sound that were super cool! And the cruise was a blast! It rained on and off so just be prepared :) I’d recommend this tour to anyone interested in seeing Milford Sound.

Wonderful tour. Our guide, Anna, with Altitude Tours was outstanding. She knows the area. She knows her wines. She is a safe driver and made the journey fun and interesting. She also took us to some extra out-of-the-way places to enjoy the autumn scenery. We went to four wineries for tasting. We had a very nice lunch at one of them (Kinross Winery). I’m surprised how so many visitors in Queenstown wanting to visit Milford Sound are not taking advantage of this opportunity and booking this excursion in advance. Are you willing to drive or ride a shuttle for +5 hours? Why not fly there instead and make a pit spot to touch some snow? Our pilot was Kurt and he was hands down very welcoming, professional, and engaged with ensuring that his passengers were safe and getting the best experience possible, weather permitting of course. The process of transitioning from helicopter to the cruise was very smooth and hassle free. We went to Milford Sound in the afternoon and we were very fortunate to have two close sightings of dolphins. It’s best to visit Milford Sound after heavy rainfall to see multiple active waterfalls. If NZ is in a dry spell, it’s still worth a visit especially with the Glacier Helicopters company. You won’t be disappointed!

Flying high in Queenstown

This was a ton of fun. We did all 6 ziplines. 3 were shorter and another 3 longer. Wide variety of people in the group and the guides, Ava and Steve, were great! Note that there is a 25 downhill walk with quite a few steep steps and ruggis terrain, so be careful if you have any movement concerns (they do offer a partial car ride as an alt).

Great was to see Milford Sound with limited time commitment

Great way to see Milford Sound in an afternoon, particularly if longer bus rides are not your thing. One ~30-minute flight to the sound, boat cruise and one ~30-minute flight back. Breathtaking views of the Sound and mountain ranges from above, coupled with a relaxing boat cruise through the fjord. We didn’t take advantage of the food onboard (but lovely to have seats reserved for our flight group), but did partake of a glass of wine and free coffee. Our pilot, Isabel was fantastic — great flier and tour guide, and our plane was comfortable and quiet. Pick up and drop-off from Queenstown was also a breeze.
